Thursday 29th November was the annual show at Dunoon School Hostel. The young people had been busy for quite a while rehearsing for this event.
The evening kicked off with Findlay, the evenings junior presenter introducing our hosts for the evening, Kara & Tristan. They danced a fantastic routine to ‘Twist & Shout’ sung by the very talented Findlay. The Judges came on , this year we had, Rod Stewart, Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger & Robbie Williams. BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Residency in Campbeltown October 2018
The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBC SSO) have been working with primary and secondary school pupils across Kintyre as part of a week-long residency in Campbeltown. Pupils have taken part in performances and song writing workshops with BBC SSO musicians, including a special workshop on Gigha. The pupils created their own songs based on Mussorgsky’s “Pictures From an Exhibition”, inspired by characters in the paintings which inspired the music, including the “Troll King” and the “Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks”.

Colgrain Primary Sports Relief Danceathon
On Wednesday 21st March all the pupils of Colgrain Primary came together to perform a dance to the song ‘This is Me’ from the hit film The Greatest Showman. The upper school classes at Sandbank Primary treated guests to an afternoon of Scottish celebrations last week. The Gaelic P 4-7, P5 and P6/7 classes joined forces to wow the audience with an array of performances, including bag pipes, fiddle, drums, piano, chanter, poetry recitals and highland dancing.

Arinagour Primary Burns Supper
Pupils at Arinagour Primary School had their annual Burns’ Supper at the Island Café on Thursday. The pupils entertained their audience with speeches, songs, poems and a Highland Fling.

Clachan Primary Christmas Show
On the evening of Tuesday the 19th of December, the pupils of Clachan Primary performed their musical Christmas show; ‘The Stars Are Coming Out At Christmas’
The school was packed with friends and family who had gathered for a night of entertainment, followed by tea, mince pies and Christmas cake.

‘Festive Fun at Strath of Appin Primary’
A packed village hall last Thursday evening enjoyed a wonderful performance of ‘Cinders’ by Strath of Appin Primary School pupils and nursery children. In just over two weeks the pupils pulled out all the stops to learn their lines, song words and dance routines which got everyone in the Festival mood.
Southend Primary School Christmas Concert
Pupils at Southend Primary School hosted their annual Christmas Concert on Thursday 14th December. Children performed a number of acts including two French songs, ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ and ‘Jingle Bells’ on their Ocarinas, a well performed ‘Little Baby King’ Nativity, and more. The concert was supported by families, friends, and the local community and we would like to thank everyone who attended. Your support is greatly appreciated.

P5 Puppet Company’
P5 pupils at Rhu Primary have spent this term reading and examining scripts. They have looked at the different features of play scripts and then used this knowledge to plan and write their own short puppet show scripts in co-operative learning groups. They chose the Rhu Primary ‘school bees’ as their morals behind their stories, such as ‘Be Hardworking’, ‘Be Honest’ and ‘Be Responsible’.

Senior Citizen’s Tea Party at Colgrain!
On Tuesday 5th December, senior pupils extended a welcome to their grandparents, wider family members and senior members of the Colgrain Community. Our Senior Citizen’s Tea Party is organised and run by the pupils themselves. Attendees were entertained by Pre-5 and Primary 1 pupils singing Gaelic and French Christmas songs and P7 pupils played the chime bars and sung too.

Dunoon School Hostel had their annual show ‘Hostel’s Got Talent 2017’ on Tuesday 5th December. The Christmas themed hall was packed with parents, staff and young people.
Regional Art Competition Winner – Lochdonhead Primary
Alex Geddes of Lochdonhead Primary fought off stiff competition to win the regional stages of an art competition, run by Gas Distribution Network (GDN), to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide.
The primary seven pupil produced and performed a lyrical poem which saw her win £300 for the school and £150 for herself.

BMT day at Glenbarr Primary School
On Friday 17th March, Rhunahaorine and Gigha pupils joined pupils at Glenbarr Primary School for a day of BMT (Better Movers and Thinkers). They were joined by Rona Young who led the day. In the morning P1-3 pupils got the chance to have some Active Start together while the p4-7 took part in some BMT activities in the classroom. They tried a variety of activities – Body Lift, Body Parts, Finger Taps, Clap Patterns and Fours on the Spot.
LC and Nurture Group Nativity
This year Dunoon Primary Learning Centre and Nurture Group performed “The Nativity” to parents, friends and the other pupils and staff in the school. All of the children took part, trying very hard to learn their lines and the words and signs for lots of songs. A special mention must go to P6 pupil, Kenzie, whose narrating was outstanding during all performances. Parents particularly enjoyed solos performed by Aaron, Christopher, Alexander, Ciaran, Malakai, Ty, Evie and Bonnie. The final performance was so good that Santa flew in to deliver some special presents! Afterwards, parents and children enjoyed some tea and cake before the children went home to get ready for Santa arriving at their own houses.

We had a braw day on Wednesday 25th January celebrating Robert Burns. We enjoyed poetry, music, dancing and singing. Primary 1-4 had learned the Selkirk Grace. The haggis was piped in by Kirsty, Sophie and Anna. Cameron, Isaac, Finlay and Dylan addressed the haggis and our lunch of haggis, neeps and tatties was delicious!
Regional Winner of the French Drama Competition
La Concours de la francophonie
Well done to the P5 class of Dunoon Primary School for winning the regional final of the French Drama competition. The class were involved in an interdisciplinary learning project about the Titanic. They then developed a French drama linked with this project and sang a traditional French song about a sailor and the sea. Their winning entry can be seen HERE . They have now been entered into the national final. We wish them every success in the next stage of the competition.
