On Thursday 22nd May, 9 teams from different Primary schools in the Helensburgh and Lomond area took part in the annual Christian Aid Netball tournament. The tournament took place in Lomond Sports Hall and was a most enjoyable evening with some great play and teamwork shown by all the pupils involved. In the preliminary rounds Hermitage Primary and Cardross Primary came out top, with Colgrain Primary and the All Stars coming runners-up.

Festive Foodbank Collection
Enterprising Primary 6 pupils at Rhu put their digital heads together and came up with a charitable and eco-friendly plan to support the Helensburgh Foodbank at Christmas time. The children collected a total of 305 items in just two weeks by establishing their Christmas-e-Greetings company in the school. The scheme involved pupils buying a digital greeting card which was displayed on the TV’s in the foyer and hall during December. Instead of exchanging money for the greeting, the pupils brought in items of food for the foodbank.
P5 Puppet Company’
P5 pupils at Rhu Primary have spent this term reading and examining scripts. They have looked at the different features of play scripts and then used this knowledge to plan and write their own short puppet show scripts in co-operative learning groups. They chose the Rhu Primary ‘school bees’ as their morals behind their stories, such as ‘Be Hardworking’, ‘Be Honest’ and ‘Be Responsible’.

Bring and Buy Sale
The children of Drumlemble Pupil Council decided that they wanted to raise money for the victims of recent Hurricanes. They researched this and decided that buying Gerry Cans was the best idea. After discussions with their classmates, they came up with the idea of running a Bring and Buy Sale. In addition to the toys, games and books, one of the children had baked cakes which were sold as well.
Children in Need at Castlehill Primary
Pupils at Castlehill Primary School were very busy last Friday raising money for Children In Need. A Talent Show in the morning in which parents and families of the children who were singing, playing instruments, dancing and acting were invited was followed by a Bring and Buy Sale in the afternoon. The amazing amount of £886 was raised
MP lends a hand for DGS Learning Centre Charity Fund Raiser
At the beginning of October the junior Learning Centre enterprise class held a charity fund raising event for The Rainbow Trust, an organisation that provides support for children, and their families, with life threatening conditions. The pupils had researched several charities and came up with many fund raising activities before finally deciding on their ‘Quiz and a Cookie’ event.
