Christian Aid Netball Tournament 2018

On Thursday 22nd May, 9 teams from different Primary schools in the Helensburgh and Lomond area took part in the annual Christian Aid Netball tournament. The tournament took place in Lomond Sports Hall and was a most enjoyable evening with some great play and teamwork shown by all the pupils involved. In the preliminary rounds Hermitage Primary and Cardross Primary came out top, with Colgrain Primary and the All Stars coming runners-up.

St Joseph’s Sweeps the Board!

What a great evening St Joseph’s had last night at the Young Writers and Young Photographers prize-giving in Helensburgh. Many schools in the area took part in these two annual competitions but St Joseph’s managed to have FOUR winners altogether. Imogene won second prize and Grace won third prize in their category in the Young Writers competition whist Olivia won First Prize in the Intermediate section of the Young Photographers competition and Orla won First Prize in the Junior section in the same competition.

JLB 2017 Burns Competition Winners

John Logie Baird Primary are delighted with their recent success in the Helensburgh District Burns Club competition held in Hermitage Academy last week. Children from primaries 5, 6 and 7 took part in the poetry and song recital categories. Eilidh Jakeman in Primary 5 won third place in the P4 and 5 poetry recital category, whilst Eden Sanderson won first place in the P6 and 7 song category. Her acapella rendition of Auld Lang Syne to the original melody impressed the judges and also won her title of over all 2017 competition winner.

Argyll and Bute School Staff Receive a Professional Development Award

PDA Whole Group + Admin + RR - FinalOn the 21st June 2016, 22 Classroom and Additional Support Needs Assistants received certificates for the SQA Professional Development Award (PDA) in Education Support Assistance in a ceremony held in the Loch Fyne Hotel, Inveraray.

Roslyn Redpath, Principal Educational Psychologist, presented the certificates on behalf of Argyll and Bute Council and congratulated the candidates on their hard work and commitment.

Amazing athletes at Colgrain

colgrain athetics June 2016On Monday 9th May at Lomond Sports Hall, Colgrain pupils took part in the Primary Schools Athletics Competition.
Colgrain Primary showed some wonderful talent amongst the pupils.
They were awarded :- girls 60m – 2nd, boys 60m – 1st, boys 600m – 1st and 3rd, boys shot putt – 3rd, girls shot putt – 2nd, girls long jump – 1st and 2nd, boys long jump – 2nd, boys and girls relay 100m both 1st place.

Overall, there was an amazing hall of medals. Well done to everyone.

Colgrain Primary football victory.

Colgrain Football victory June 2016On the 16th May 2016, Colgrain football team along with 9 other teams in the Helensburgh and Lomond area, came together to fight it out for the Christian Aid, Martha Murdoch memorial trophy. After some exciting matches in the preliminary rounds they came out top in their section, subsequently going onto win their semi-final to reach the final against Cardross Primary. After a tightly fought game, Colgrain was victorious winning 2-0. Man of the tournament was also awarded to Ryan Grant who scored a magnificent goal for Colgrain. The picture shows the team captain, Luke Godwin lifting the cup.

Success at the School Bulb Competition

Garelochhead Bulb Competition 1P4 and P5 took part in the Helensburgh and Lomond school bulb competition recently. The hyacinths grown by all the children created a very impressive display with one winning the overall gold medal. Congratulations to John Smith who won first prize.

John Logie Baird Touch Ruby Winners

JLB Rubgy WinnersPrimary 4 children across Helensburgh and Lomond have been taking part in a Touch Rugby training programme through Active Schools this term. All schools entered a competition within this programme to link the number of passes they could do without dropping the ball.

John Logie Baird Primary are delighted to have won this competetion with 25 passes. Here they are being presented with the winner’s cup by Adam from Active Schools.
