On Thursday 22nd May, 9 teams from different Primary schools in the Helensburgh and Lomond area took part in the annual Christian Aid Netball tournament. The tournament took place in Lomond Sports Hall and was a most enjoyable evening with some great play and teamwork shown by all the pupils involved. In the preliminary rounds Hermitage Primary and Cardross Primary came out top, with Colgrain Primary and the All Stars coming runners-up.
In the semi-finals, Cardross and The All Stars were eventual winners who therefore played each other in the final. It was an exciting match with the eventual winners The All Stars taking the title. This was a fabulous result as the team (a mixture of St Joseph’s Primary and Rosneath Primary) had never played together before, showed amazing teamwork and determination to become overall winners.
The umpires from G84 and Helensburgh Netball Club picked the Player of the Tournament, which was Lara Sherry from the All Stars.
Thanks go to Live Argyll, Active schools and Martin Caldwell who provided the medals and the player of the tournament trophy.
What an exciting evening it was! Some very close matches. I was so proud of my Rosneath Team (as was the St Joseph’s Coach of hers). We are now sharing the Robert C Lindsay Trophy between the two Schools. Both Schools celebrated at a special whole School Assembly. Excellent passing and shooting and a well-deserved Player of the Tournament for St Joseph’s Goal Shooter. The win was extra special because of the fact that the two Schools had never played together before and we were trying out different players in different positions. We kept it very fair so that ONE boy from each School played each time and everyone in our Squad played in at least one match.
Many thanks to Mrs Cormack for organising the Event and to her Team of helpers on the night (especially the volunteer umpires).
