“Take One Picture”

The Creative Learning in Schools Team (CAST) have been piloting a project in primary schools in Kintyre, “Take One Picture” installing artworks from the Argyll Collection in six schools to inspire cross curricular creative learning. Pupils and teachers from Carradale, Castlehill, Dalintober, Drumlemble, Gigha and Rhunahaorine Primaries have been working with artists Sian MacQueen, Nicole Heidtke and Stefan Bamberger and dancer Tony Mills to create new work inspired by the artworks, taking part in workshops on conductive printmaking, relief sculpture, dance, digital sculpture, life drawing, shadow puppetry, collage and painting.

BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Residency in Campbeltown October 2018

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBC SSO) have been working with primary and secondary school pupils across Kintyre as part of a week-long residency in Campbeltown. Pupils have taken part in performances and song writing workshops with BBC SSO musicians, including a special workshop on Gigha. The pupils created their own songs based on Mussorgsky’s “Pictures From an Exhibition”, inspired by characters in the paintings which inspired the music, including the “Troll King” and the “Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks”.

Castlehill Primary School

The Cooperative in Campbeltown are very kindly donating fruit to each class at Castlehill Primary school over the next few weeks. This is part of the Pupil Council’s initiative to encourage all pupils to eat a healthy snack. Below is a photo of the Pupil Council receiving the fruit from staff from the Coop. Primary 1 and Primary 2 children were the first to receive their free fruit, with the other classes receiving fruit over the next few weeks.
The Pupil Council would like to thank the Co-op very much for their kind donation of fruit for the school.

Castlehill Primary School – Fun Run for Sport Relief

Pupils from Castlehill Primary School took part in their daily mile on Friday 23rd March. All the classes from Primary 1 to Primary 7 ran, walked or jogged together around the school in aid of Sport Relief. It was great fun and at the end the children enjoyed fruit donated by Tesco. A big thank you to them for providing this fruit for the whole school.

Burns Bash

To celebrate Robert Burns Day, pupils from Primary 3 and Primary 3/4 held a Burns Bash in their Upstairs Open Area. This consisted of a Baking stall, Bric-a-brac and a café where children enjoyed shortbread and juice.

Chanter music and highland dancing was enjoyed by the visiting classes while they sat in the café.

Craft Fayre

A very successful Craft Fayre and Concert was held in Castlehill Primary School recently. All the classes made a huge variety of Christmas crafts to sell and the sum of £1450 was raised.  Parents, family and friends came to buy the crafts and enjoyed a coffee while listening to the children perform a variety of musical items.

Children in Need at Castlehill Primary

Pupils at Castlehill Primary School were very busy last Friday raising money for  Children In Need.  A Talent Show in the morning in which parents and families of the children who were singing, playing instruments, dancing and acting  were invited was followed by a Bring and Buy Sale in the afternoon.  The amazing amount of £886 was raised

‘Pounding’ Sessions at Castlehill Primary

Children at Castlehill Primary School enjoyed an ear-splitting fitness routine ‘Pounding’ from fitness trainer Fiona Irwin. These energetic sessions were completed to a loud soundtrack using ‘Pounding’ drumsticks and all the classes enjoyed using the drumsticks to the rhythm of the music.
