The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBC SSO) have been working with primary and secondary school pupils across Kintyre as part of a week-long residency in Campbeltown. Pupils have taken part in performances and song writing workshops with BBC SSO musicians, including a special workshop on Gigha. The pupils created their own songs based on Mussorgsky’s “Pictures From an Exhibition”, inspired by characters in the paintings which inspired the music, including the “Troll King” and the “Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks”.

Kilchattan School’s young poets are getting published.
The pupils of Kilchattan School have been working very hard on their creative writing skills and have produced lots of interesting work. The topic this term was poetry so they thought they would have a go at entering the Young Writers “Little Riddlers” and “Rhymecraft” Poetry competitions. They were all very excited to learn that all 5 of their poems are going to get published. Well done all!
Citizenship at Dunoon Primary
The P7’s at Dunoon Primary School have been working on their IDL on Citizenship. Working in groups they have been researching and interviewing people in different sectors of the local community. Groups have been focusing on Care in the Community, Caring for the Environment, Other Cultures, The Law in Scotland, The Scottish Government and The History of Dunoon.
Sandbank Primary celebrates all things Scottish
The upper school classes at Sandbank Primary treated guests to an afternoon of Scottish celebrations last week. The Gaelic P 4-7, P5 and P6/7 classes joined forces to wow the audience with an array of performances, including bag pipes, fiddle, drums, piano, chanter, poetry recitals and highland dancing.

Glenbarr Primary School’s Burns Lunch
Glenbarr Primary School welcomed families and friends to a Burns lunch on Tuesday, 30th January. The children had made tartan-inspired place mats, non-alcoholic Cranachan, and shortbread for their guests. The pupils entertained their visitors with poems, songs and tunes using ocarinas, recorders and bells. A good time was had by all!

Making a difference for Mary’s Meals
Achaleven Primary opened up their doors to the community for an Autumn picnic on Wednesday 13th September to raise awareness and funds for Mary’s Meals. In 2015 the Global Goals for Sustainable Development campaign was launched with agreement from 193 countries to work towards an end to poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030. The second goal of this campaign is zero hunger. The children wanted to run an event to see what they could do to help.
