Dunoon Primary Vote for Clan Council

This week, the Primary 7 and Primary 6 pupils put themselves forward to be nominated for Clan Captain or Vice-Captain. This involved writing a short speech explaining why they wished to be nominated and what they will do this year to improve the school and support the children in their clans.  On Thursday afternoon, we had a Clan Afternoon to carry out the vote.  All of the children spoke very well and there were lots of good ideas to support the school. Gardening with Mrs Cairns P3B

The Topic in P3B this year has been to improve and care for our School Environment. We cleared out the raised beds, went to our local supermarket and selected suitable plants to brighten our School playground. We are going to have a lot of building work going on very soon and we thought the gardens would cheer people up in the midst of the major refurbishment. P3B enjoyed every minute of their gardening activities and met some snails, which they then wrote wonderful stories about. They then thought of very interesting ways to discourage them from our beautiful garden!

Dunoon Primary Learning Centre Sponsored Walk – Wednesday 7th June

A few weeks ago, one of our older pupil’s had the fantastic idea of doing a sponsored walk to raise money for Learning Centre funds, particuarly to buy new outdoor equipment and toys. The LC2 class planned and organised the walk in consultation with the head teacher. We used Google maps to plan our route – it was 2.5 miles from the school to the Sandbank swing park which we thought was perfect. We wrote to parents, made posters which the younger children in LC1 helped to decorate, and carried out a risk assessment.

Nano Science Comes to Dunoon Primary

This week as part of British Science Week, Dr Joy Leckie and her team, came from Strathclyde University to Dunoon Primary School to introduce the P1-4s to Nano Science. The Primary 1 and 2 classes were involved in making nanojelly. Primary 3 and 4s learned about polymers, lacing beads to make a bracelet and had the experience of mixing ingredients to make a nanopolymer bouncy ball. It was a messy job, but thoroughly enjoyable! LC and Nurture Group Nativity

This year Dunoon Primary Learning Centre and Nurture Group performed “The Nativity” to parents, friends and the other pupils and staff in the school. All of the children took part, trying very hard to learn their lines and the words and signs for lots of songs. A special mention must go to P6 pupil, Kenzie, whose narrating was outstanding during all performances. Parents particularly enjoyed solos performed by Aaron, Christopher, Alexander, Ciaran, Malakai, Ty, Evie and Bonnie. The final performance was so good that Santa flew in to deliver some special presents! Afterwards, parents and children enjoyed some tea and cake before the children went home to get ready for Santa arriving at their own houses.
