Southend Primary – Eco Schools Green Flag

Southend Primary School have successfully renewed their Green Flag Award by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful in recognition of their Eco-Schools journey.

Part of the focus has been on beach and marine litter with workshops undertaken with the GRAB trust and developing their outdoor space as a resource for learning and recreation. They have also been improving their natural habitat for birds and insects. The children’s health and wellbeing has also been a major focus with the installation of a play/climbing frame to provide exercise and role play whilst outside.

Drumlemble Primary School – Farewell to Mrs. McIntosh!

Drumlemble Primary have had a fun filled week in the lead up to Mrs. McIntosh’s last day prior to commencing her maternity leave.

The children have been partaking in lots of outdoor learning focusing on the subject of Wood, sometimes even catching the sunshine.

Autumn Harvest

During the spring and summer months, the children at Campbeltown Nursery Centre were very busy giving their nursery garden a make over and planting seeds. They’ve successfully grown peas, turnips, carrots, herbs and Strawberries (apparently they taste “better than the ones in the shops”!) where only grass and hard ground was before. Toddle Waddle

The children at Dalintober ELC had a fun day out while raising money for Barnardo’s. The children walked from Dalintober Primary School to the ‘Donkey Playpark’. They had their snack and a wee play there before heading back to the school. They were very good at following road safety rules and kept us all in check! We raised £423.60. A big thank you to all who sponsored and help us on the day.

Campbeltown Nursery Transition to Castlehill

As part of the nursery transition programme, Campbeltown Nursery joined Primary one and two at Castlehill Primary for a “Happy Healthy Me Morning”. They participated in a wide range of activities which included Zumba, golf, healthy eating, fruit tasting and dental care. A fantastic morning was had by all.

Dream Dress Up Day

In the last week of term, the Colgrain Primary School Pupil Council organised a ‘dream job’ dress up day. All pupils from Pre-5 to P7 thought about what they would like to be when they grow up and came to school dressed in that role. This event coincided with the finale of our STEM term. Thanks to the generosity of our pupils, we raised £244.38. This money has been shared between Save the Children and the purchase of new playground equipment.

Full STEM Ahead at Colgrain!

During Term 3 at Colgrain, the pupils from Pre-5 to P7 worked together to plan a whole school STEM topic. With the key focus of ‘developing our young workforce’, our pupils chose a variety of aspects of STEM to investigate. We worked closely with partners in the community to bring our learning to life. We welcomed Helensburgh Toyota, Royal Navy chefs, Lt. Cdr. Pinder and a number of parents to school to work with us.

New Argyll and Bute Literacy webpage!

The Argyll and Bute Literacy Experience (ABLE 2) is now live. With information for parents / carers, learners and for staff it’s the place to go for support and resources on all things literacy related. Learners from school age to adult will find useful links and resources while parents and carers will find advice and help to support them on all stages of their child’s journey from pre-birth to Highers and Advanced Highers. Staff will find examples of good practice, links to useful websites and guidance on a range of strategies from reciprocal reading to supporting learners with literacy difficulties within the classroom. The website isn’t yet fully populated so there will be some gaps, but please leave feedback and comments or email Clare Bryden, PT Literacy and let us know what else you’d like to see included. Giggling on Gigha for RND 2017

Children and staff at Gigha Primary School and Pre-Five Unit hosted an afternoon tea comedy club experience for all members of the community. P4 – P7 amazed us with their three minute stand-up routines – some real comic talent in their delivery. Our favourite was, ‘What’s pink and fluffy? Pink fluff!’ Neighbours and friends chipped in with their favourite jokes – there were some real howlers, including the inevitable ‘Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side!’

WORLD BOOK DAY- Bedtime Story Day

St Andrew’s Primary School marked World Book Day 2017 by having a Bedtime Story Day. The school’s Pupil Council organised the day that included the pupils (and staff) wearing pyjamas! The pupils were busy with lots of different literacy based activities including shared reading, where pupils from older classes read bedtime stories to younger children and younger children showcased their reading skills for their older peers. Pupils also had the chance to buy a new book at the book fair organised for the day.

STEM Focus at Dalintober PS & ELC

STEM has been a learning focus for pupils of Dalintober PS & ELC. Lots of activities and investigations took place with input from local STEM Ambassador, Joanna Holbrook, and various other partners. Pupils learned about, amongst other things, life cycles and how they can be recorded, drones and coding, buildings and structures and DNA. The focus ended with a whole ELC/school ‘Sharing Our Learning’ assembly.

World Book Day at Strachur Primary

On Friday 3rd of March Strachur Primary School celebrated World Book Day. The children (and staff!) dressed up as characters from books and everyone brought in their favourite book to share with their class. In the afternoon we paired up and read to one another. We had fun talking about books and reading new ones. All children received a voucher for a free WBD book or £1 off a book of their choice. What a fun day!

World Book Day 2017 with Furnace & Minard PS

This year the pupils of Minard and Furnace came together to celebrate World Book Day with an afternoon of reading related activities including a second hand book sale, shared reading activities. We were fortunate that local story teller Margaret Renton also came along to read to our pupils and share her enthusiasm for literacy. Parents and carers came along for a cup of tea and our toddler group took part in the reading activities with glee.
