Good morning Primary Six , we hope you are all safe and warm on this very wintery weather morning !
Reminder – All pupils should have their Titanic challenge sheets home with them which provides a checklist for their Titanic books . Remember that images or pictures can include hand drawn illustrations so it is not necessary to have access to a computer to carry on with this project . If you haven’t designed your front cover why not do that today or if you are intending to write about your particular passenger , you could sketch them . You should be adding to your index . glossary and bibliography throughout your project so take notes!
Kensuke’s Kingdom – Please read chapter 8 . Remember to complete your reasons for and against sailing around the world – we are looking forward to an interesting debate !
Run Zan Run – Please read chapter 8 .
If you are heading out to build a snowman please remember to wear lots of layers and stay safe !
An update from the BBC…. apparently you should try to walk like a penguin ( feet slightly turned out) if you venture outside to stop yourself from slipping !! Whilst we are not sure if this works, it certainly makes you giggle !

Primary 1 Snow Day Activities
Good morning Primary 1!
Mr Shanks has posted a list of activities on the blog which can be completed today whilst the schools are closed. Here are a few alternative ideas. Please don’t feel like you need to do all of these, if you manage a couple that would be great.
1. Take a walk in the snow/ play in the garden. Talk to an adult about what you can see, smell, feel, hear in the snow.
2. Write a few sentences about what you are doing on your day off to bring into school when we return.
3. Practice taking away from numbers up to 10. Either make up your own sums or you can use this website https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=TakeAway (note: you will need flash to access it)
4. Practise writing your sounds in the snow.
5. Continue reading you reading book and non-fiction book from your homework pack.
6. Practise the days of the week and numbers 1-10 in French. Here are some videos we use in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA5jSbKd5cM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsEz58BblMY
Please feel free to comment below if you have any questions and you can post photos of what you get up to on the online learners journals.
Most of all… keep safe and have fun 🙂
P2/3 Snow Day
Good morning boys and girls! Here are some activities you can do to keep busy.
Primary 2/1 Snow Day
Good morning everyone! I hope you are having a good morning and staying cosy and warm!
Mr Shanks posted some great activity booklets at the beginning of the term in the event of a snow day, go and have a look at the P1_2 section of the post for some fun things to do.
Here are some more things you can do today on your unexpected day off:
- Build a snowman, measure it to see how tall it is. Can you make one that is the same height as you?
- Make a spelling word poster- use the words from your spelling homework book (P1-th words/P2- o_e words) and write them in different colours or in bubble writing. Decorate your poster and bring it into school to put on the wall.
- P1- Have a go at finding all the addition and subtraction facts up to 10. See if an adult can test you on some addition and subtraction facts.
- P2- Have a go at making some addition and subtraction fact sums to 20. See if you can remember all the double number facts we have been working on in class. You could even sing our double number song to someone at home. The link for the song is at the end of this post.
- Draw or paint a snowy picture-bring it to school to show the rest of the class.
- Write a story about a snowy day- see if you can include some WOW words in your writing.
- Tell an adult 4 things you have learned so far about Katie Morag and the Isle of Struay. Make a poster for our Post Office and Shop role play area showing what the shop sells and how much it costs.
- Warm up after playing in the snow with a warm drink and a book-read your homework books to an adult.
- Have a go at some of the games that I have given the links for below.
- Have a fun day and stay safe!

This week in Primary 5 we have been working on our assembly related to the Scottish Wars of Independence and look forward to welcoming parents to see it on Friday morning at 9.15.
In Reading we have been working on reading for information and this week we have been looking at evidence from non fiction books and maps to find information on William Wallace and the Battle of Stirling bridge.
In Health we have been working on a project on resilience using the Bounceback programme.
In maths we have been working on fractions and have homework related to this. Mrs Jamieson’s set should be working on developing a game using their equivalent fractions cards and we look forward to playing some of the games in school later this week.
In RME we have started learning about the story of Moses. We have written reports about his childhood and will be working on cartoon strips to record the plagues of Egypt. Later we will be learning about why this story is so important in Judaism and will be learning about festivals related to this.
We look forward to seeing you at school of Friday

Primary 2/3 27.2.18
Primary 2/3 have been working hard over the past couple of weeks, learning lots about the Romans. Yesterday we were doing some mapwork. The children had to colour how far Roman Empire spread. They even learned some Roman names of countries that they had taken control of.
In ICT were are practising logging on and off the computers independently, using Microsoft word and hopefully using Google to help us with our research on the Romans.
In Health this week we are discussing the idea and purpose of a “comforter” when they were a baby. There has been a note put into the children’s diaries for them to bring their “comforter” or soft toy that they had when they were a baby and helped make them feel safe. We will be using them on Thursday.
World book day is on Thursday- please encourage your children to pick up a book and share that book with family and friends. We are celebrating this in school on Friday. All classes will get to visit each stage’s reading area and see and read all the new books that have been purchased recently.
P.E- Monday and Wednesday
Homework- Reading and Spelling (Time your climb)
P3 also have maths homework
Thanks, Miss Rafferty
Primary 3 26.2.18
This week in P3 we will be handing out Assembly parts. Your child will have a line stuck in their homework diaries and we would appreciate your support with helping your child to learn these. We have also adapted Ed Sheeran’s song, ‘Castle on the Hill’ and we have given these words to your child to learn. We will be singing this daily in school and the link for the music is below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N56nBWBIlvk
Both classes will have football on a Tuesday for the next 5 weeks and P3S will have PE on a Wednesday also. Please ensure indoor kit is brought in on both of these days.
On Thursday it is World Book Day and we will be celebrating this on Friday with a grand tour of each stage’s book corner and a sharing of the books that each child chose to add to their new reading corner.
Other homework this week will be spelling and reading as normal.
Also the weather is set to turn colder again so please ensure your child has appropriate footwear and coats, scarves, hats and gloves.
Have a good week!

Primary 4 week Beginning 19.2.18
This week in primary 4 we have been continuing to learn about Scotland. We recieved another letter from Euan MacDonald asking us for more help to find the water horse and his father. Using some clues he gave us we were able to use our Atlas skills to find out that they were in Dundee.
We then used our note taking skills to record facts about Dundee. We have been focusing on Jute, Jam, Journalism and the RRS Discovery.
The class have been particularly interested in finding out about Dundee’s own D.C Thompson and the comics he has published. We will be creating our comics in class.
In maths we have been continuing to learn multiplication facts and create links with division. We have also been learning about Venn diagrams.
Next week we will be beginning to identify parts for our parent assembly. Please keep an eye out for words that your child may have to practise.
Reminders:
Homework: spelling, reading and maths
P.E. outdoor on Tuesday and indoor on Wednesday
Please make sure all items of clothing are clearly labelled
World book day is next Thursday (1.3.18) we will not be dressing up as we have already dressed up for our own reading event.
Thank you,
The Primary 4 teachers.
Primary Six
Our show rehearsals are now in full swing and our budding thespians, narrators, singers and dancers are busily creating and learning their scripts, routines and musical ensembles. It’s shaping up to be a rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza! Letters have now been distributed regarding costumes. Please let us know is anyone needs help with anything.
Our last chapter of Kensuke’s Kingdom ended on a dramatic climax – homework for this week is to read chapter seven. By the level of anticipation and discussion taking place in class , Kensuke’s group certainly seem to be enjoying the novel. We are continuing to emphasise the importance of sharing and recommending our own reading experiences in order to boost the involvement in literacy of all our students. Run Zan Run produced some very animated debates this week regarding moral dilemmas and issues (very mature responses primary six) . Home work for this group is to read chapter seven and complete the summarising task .
We used pie charts and spreadsheets to analyse the actual capacity of the Titanic lifeboats compared to the how many passengers were in them and the results were rather shocking .
Primary Six enjoyed another session with NYCOS this week. We had to put our multi-tasking skills to the test when we combined rhythm, actions, equipment and singing .

Primary 1 w.b. 19.2.18
We hope that you all had a lovely few days off last week. The children came back with lots of stories about what they got up to and have enjoyed writing about their time in class.
We are nearing the end of our dinosaurs topic this week. We enjoyed learning all about pterodactyls yesterday and tomorrow will be finding out facts about the stegosaurus. The children have been creating super fact files all about the different dinosaurs we are learning about. Their favourite has definitely been the T-Rex!
In our Health and wellbeing lessons we have been following a programme called ‘Bounceback’. The children have been learning about how to ‘bounce back’ from mistakes and disappointments in life. On Monday we made bounce back people who remind us that we can bounce back from hard times.
In maths we are continuing our work on subtraction and telling the time. Today we learnt how to tell a half past time on analogue clocks. Thank you for your help consolidating this learning at home.
Reminders:
PE is on Thursdays. Please ensure your child comes to school with a named PE kit.
Water bottles should only contain water and should be named.
This week your child’s homework contained a purple jotter with a sheet entitled ‘Time your climb’. The children have been shown how to complete this sheet, but please ask if you need any more explanation.
Thank you
Miss Christy, Mrs Harris and Mrs Oliver
Primary 2/3 21.2.18
Primary 2/3 had a fantastic trip to the North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre. The children took part in a Roman workshop. The children looked at maps, photographs and were able to handle some Roman artefacts. The children got to dress up in Togas, touch and hold a Roman soldier’s armour and helmet. The children were also given the chance to hold some Roman weapons and a huge Roman shield. We learned lots about the Roman Bath House and Hadrians Wall. To finish our trip off, the children got to design their very own Roman shield and they took a walk up the viewing tower which allowed them to see for miles. It was rather windy up there!
Last week was also very exciting because we learned about Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent. We enjoyed eating our pancakes and deciding something that they thought they could possibly give up for Lent. Some of us think that this will be a huge challenge!
In maths Primary 3 are continuing to learn their times tables (2, 5 and 10) and Primary 2 are learning how to double numbers using rekenreks.
In Science we are still working our way through the Polar Explorer programme. This week we are investigation how animals stay warm in the freezing temperatures and next week we are going to “pack our bags” for a polar explorer experience. What will we need to take to keep us warm?
Next Thursday (1st March) in Health we are looking at how we grow up and bounce back. Could all children bring in a toy or comforter from when they were younger please? We are going to be using them in our discussion.
P.E is still on a Monday and Wednesday
Homework- Reading, Spelling/Time your climb, maths worksheet
Thanks, Miss Rafferty
Primary 3 News 19.2.18
This week we will be looking at the 5x table and our maths homework covers the 2s, 5s and 10s. Please encourage your child to do this on their own and use concrete materials if needed (such as lego pieces). Please also let us know if they struggle with the work.
They also have their weekly spelling words and reading too.
On Tuesday we are lucky enough to have a visit from Tesco Football who will be working with our children, developing a variety of skills. Please ensure they bring their PE kit to school.
Many thanks for the pledges you have returned regarding ‘Smoke-free Homes and Cars’. There is still time to fill this in and return to your child’s class teacher.
A confirmed date for your diary is our P3 Banquet which is taking place on Friday 16th March 11:15-12:15. You will be sent an invitation but because of the large number of children we can only accommodate one person from the family.
Also don’t forget our Knights and Castle Assembly on Tuesday 13th March. Next week we will send home any words they need to learn.
Many thanks for your continued support!
Have a good week.
Mrs Smith & Mr Gordon

Good afternoon everyone,
This week has been a short one. But we have been very busy with our p6/7 show. This week we had no homework! 🙂 Except P7’s My Life So Far and ww2 project . that is taking a lot of time and work. Please remember that the first draft of My Life So Far is due on the 9th March.
We will be continuing to practise our school show songs, scripts and dances over the coming weeks.
In art we have been creating onomatopoeia words using pop art with Ms Fox. And in maths the cubes, squares and circles have been working on fractions with Miss Clark. The pyramids have been doing algebra. Finally the triangles have been working on fractions and percentages of amounts with Mrs Macaulay.
Thank you for reading our blog this week!

P5 Friday 9th February 2018
Hi everyone!
This week we have continued with our Scottish Wars topic and we began a group challenge. Within this task we had research for information on castles and burghs. We are learning how to read for information and write up what we learn in our own words. It’s not an easy thing to do!
In Science we are learning about Solids. Liquids and Gases. There is a lot to learn as our initial “What do we know?” quiz revealed that we do not know much at this point. I am confident by the end our knowledge will have developed a good amount!
Basketball is our unit of work in P.E. We are now playing small team games and having a lot of fun doing so. It is not easy to remember all of the rules and score goals too!
Please remember that next week we are on holiday Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th. All return on Wednesday 14th February. Additionally, our BIG homework presentations are to be returned on Thursday 15th February. Presentations will take place over 2 days.
Enjoy your long weekend and we look forward to seeing you all after the small break.
Miss Farren and Mrs Jamieson
Primary Six
It is great to hear so many discussions about authors within primary six . We are building a book tower of recommendations so no one should be stuck deciding what to read next! Kensuke’s Kingdom and Run Zan Run have been producing some in-depth discussions on the texts. The Neverlanders ( Kensuke’s Kingdom ) have the question maker task to compete and The Narnians( Run Zan Run ) are reading up to chapter 5 .
Work on decimals and fractions is progressing well, please take any opportunity to point out where we use them in everyday life.
We now have a dramatic wall display depicting the Titanic disaster; our pupils are insisting that it is as factually correct as possible, quite right too!
Primary Six are continuing to work hard and have certainly earned their half term break ! Well done Primary Six. We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday.
REMINDERS –
PE – outdoor Kit – Wednesdays –
Indoor Kit 6Wy – Tuesdays 6Wo – Mondays
