Primary 2 9/3/20

A huge congratulations to Primary 2 O/P! They performed a fantastic assembly to their parents and Primary 1-3. There was super singing, dancing and acting. They shared lots of learning and the parents thought it was wonderful!

This week is Sport Relief! Primary 6 have organised a sporting event on Wednesday (Children need their p.e kits) and Primary 2 will be doing their own dancing challenge on Friday (dress down day). Primary 6 are still selling bands at £1 and the children are encouraged to bring in a donation on Friday. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in their sports clothes and ready to dance!

Our specialist timetable is changing next week. Primary 2 will have their P.E with Mrs Ferguson on a Thursday and Art with Ms Fox on Wednesday. We will move our outdoor P.E session to a Tuesday.  So children require P.E kits on Tuesday and Thursday.

New homework was issued today. Can we remind the children to complete the activities on the sheet and anything that the children do can be noted in their “share it” jotter. Please ensure that the children are doing their reading on a regular basis and completing activities on Ed City.

We are excited about our up coming trip to The Tall Ship in Glasgow! We are going on Tuesday 24th March. We have lots of pirate themed activities to do and we will get to explore a real ship!

We are moving away from Multiplying and division in maths this week and starting to learn about addition with  money. The children will be adding coins together to reach totals. We have even set up a shop in our play area to allow the children to practise!

Reminders: Indoor shoes, water bottle, homework folders, p.e kits and a snack for break.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Miss Rafferty, Miss Pringle and Mrs Oliver

P2 update 28.3.19

Hello!

We have an exciting few days in school before the holidays.  Today we are going to the P6/7 show dress rehearsal which we have heard is amazing!

Earth hour – wear something bright to school on Friday 29th March

To mark earth hour we have been talking about ways we can help to reduce our impact on our environment.  The children had lots of ideas including switching off lights, changing to paper or metal straws and picking up litter.  On Friday we will be switching our classroom lights off and the children are encouraged to wear something bright to school if they can.

Class trip

Our trip to the zoo is on Monday and we are looking forward to seeing some of the animals we have been learning about in class.  Please can you return the form if you haven’t already.  The children will need a packed lunch on the day if you haven’t ordered one from school.

Just in case we haven’t had enough of animals, we have a visitor coming into school on Tuesday who will be bringing in animals which live in hot and cold climates.  It’s going to be a very exciting start to the week!

Homework

The homework should be returned for sharing in school on Thursday 4th April. Thank you for supporting the children with their homework.  We enjoy seeing all their hard work when they share it.

Other reminders

Please remember PE kit on a Thursday and a water bottle every day.

Thank you!

Mrs Muir and Miss Rafferty

Primary 2/3 21.2.18

Primary 2/3 had a fantastic trip to the North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre. The children took part in a Roman workshop. The children looked at maps, photographs and were able to handle some Roman artefacts. The children got to dress up in Togas, touch and hold a Roman soldier’s armour and helmet. The children were also given the chance to hold some Roman weapons and a huge Roman shield. We learned lots about the Roman Bath House and Hadrians Wall.  To finish our trip off, the children got to design their very own Roman shield and they took a walk up the viewing tower which allowed them to see for miles. It was rather windy up there!

Last week was also very exciting because we learned about Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent. We enjoyed eating our pancakes and deciding something that they thought they could possibly give up for Lent. Some of us think that this will be a huge challenge!

In maths Primary 3 are continuing to learn their times tables (2, 5 and 10) and Primary 2 are learning how to double numbers using rekenreks.

In Science we are still working our way through the Polar Explorer programme. This week we are investigation how animals stay warm in the freezing temperatures and next week we are going to “pack our bags” for a polar explorer experience. What will we need to take to keep us warm?

Next Thursday (1st March) in Health we are looking at how we grow up and bounce back. Could all children bring in a toy or comforter from when they were younger please? We are going to be using them in our discussion.

P.E is still on a Monday and Wednesday

Homework- Reading, Spelling/Time your climb, maths worksheet

Thanks, Miss Rafferty

Primary 2/3 6.2.18

Primary 2/3 have been learning about Roman Mosaics. We are currently making our mosaics to decorate the classroom. The boys and girls have been taking their time to carefully place their mosaic tiles. We are also going to be learning about the clothes worn during Roman times.

We have a class trip organised for Thursday 15th February which we are very excited about! Could all children bring back their blue letter (EE2 form), lunch order and payment as soon as possible please?

I am looking forward to seeing you all at parents’ night.

Thanks, Miss Rafferty

Primary 1 week beg 25.1.16

Well done to everyone for learning their Burns Poem!! You all were super.

This week the children will be performing a Scottish song for the school’s Burns afternoon. The winners of the poetry competition will also recite their poems. Please ensure your child has on the correct uniform for this event.

In Maths we are continuing with subtraction facts within 5. In our topic we will be researching different Dinosaurs to create our own Fact Files.

We are very excited about our upcoming trip!! Could we please remind Parents/Carers that the trips to Dynamic Earth are coming up. Please could you hand in your money and the completed EE2 form for this specific trip as soon as possible.

Thank you,
The P1 Teachers
