Classification of animals
We are learning about the variety of life. Today Mr Rose worked with us and we thought about how animal groups are classified. We did an activity where we had to sort different shapes with a variety of colours.
What’s under your feet?
Today Karen McKelvie, from the RSPB, came to work with us on the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) Under your feet survey. As part of our animal project we will be surveying the school grounds to see how many invertebrates there are here. They are an important part of the local food chains. We will also be doing bird surveys. All this is part of the Citizen science project and we will be uploading our data for a national project three times during the year.
Here are some photos from this morning, when we dug our pits and then looked for the invertebrates, we were surprised to find so few.
Heading home
Tammy has had a great time visiting Montpellier and he has lots to tell P5/6 about life in France. He visited a school and spoke to some of the children, who would love to be penpals.

Tammy’s first full day in Montpellier
Today Tammy has been in class learning some French grammar and then he went exploring in the city. He has been finding the answers to a few of your questions.
Drew asked ‘What do people eat in France?’
Tammy said ‘They eat lots of different things, like 🐌, which Ms Scanlan enjoyed, and lots of local cheeses, meat, fish and fresh vegetables.
And they have lots of different types of pancakes, savoury and sweet.
Callum asked if the French eat frogs’ legs, but I haven’t seen any yet!
Robert wanted to know do they have skyscrapers in Montpellier, there are some lovely old buildings but I haven’t seen any skyscrapers. Callum asked what sort of houses they have, so I’ve taken a few photos for you.
And after a busy day I had a bit of time relaxing. Robert wanted to know what do children play, and I had fun with some, playing in the park.
Bonne nuit , à demain.

How to clean water
On 25th September P5 spent the afternoon cleaning dirty water. We used gravel and sand to sieve water through. It looked a lot clearer, but not clean enough to drink!
Air pressure
On 18 th September we learnt about the effect of air pressure on our weather and how it makes air move.
