We had a busy term in PE taking part in Dance, Handball and Badminton. Throughout the blocks we covered a lot of our benchmarks, but focused on Motivation, Decision Making and Balance and Control.

P5/6 worked so hard at our Robotics workshop this week. They learned about the circumference of a circle, by programming a robot based on the rotations of its wheels. They then had fun creating their own shapes, which they then coded their robot to travel around, based on the shapes perimeter.

After a lot of work on weight in maths, it was only right we put our extended knowledge into context – we measured toppings to make “the Perfect Pizza”.

At the end of Term 2 we had a visit from Barnum at Shetland Arts who brought in real film equipment. We got the opportunity to learn how to use it and create our own short films! We had the best afternoon.
We write 3 times per week, and today we decided to use Ruby to help us create an imaginative story. While she played “The Lost City” on the double bass, we created imaginative stories about of own Lost Cities.
The National improvement for writing project, aims to have pupils write for short amounts of time (15 mins) focussing on personal targets to achieve. Pupils are then given a further 5 minutes to edit and check their work. This is working great in P5/6 where we’re seeing some superb improvements in writing.

P5/6 have worked really hard this term learning about water and how it can change states. We recently learned about salt and how it changes the freezing point of water – so using this knowledge we created our very own ice creams – in only 15 minutes!

In science this week, we used salt and ice to see if it speeds up the natural speed of ice cubes melting!
