This term, P5/6 have been working really hard on their enterprise project – Dragons Den. We had 6 teams who all created a prototype, and pitched their products to a panel of “Dragons” – who then had to choose teams to represent the class at the Summer Gala to raise funds for the school. The teams have all created their own products, looked at profits and expenditure and also created advertisement to help them in their pitches. The successful teams were “Lucky Lemonade” – who will sell lemonade and lucky dips, and “Sweets n’ Treats” who will sell fruit kebabs and chocolate covered strawberries.
A huge thank you must go to our Dragons – Mrs Leslie, Gus Dow (Bigton Bakery) & Sarah Green (D.P.C & Stakkadale Coffee), as well as Derry (Community Champion – Tesco) – who has donated lots of items to help keep costs extremely low!

We write 3 times per week, and today we decided to use Ruby to help us create an imaginative story. While she played “The Lost City” on the double bass, we created imaginative stories about of own Lost Cities.
The National improvement for writing project, aims to have pupils write for short amounts of time (15 mins) focussing on personal targets to achieve. Pupils are then given a further 5 minutes to edit and check their work. This is working great in P5/6 where we’re seeing some superb improvements in writing.

P5/6 have been taking part in the Writing Project (A national project aimed to develop writing skills). Our first “aim” was to ensure 70% of learners in the class were writing using correct punctuation. The class could look at our run chart each week to see how well they had done, and if 100% reached their target they receive a golden ticket.
We introduced a new aim (looking at use of conjunctions) fairly recently. The class all work so hard during our writing sessions, and have managed to get 5 golden tickets – meaning it was a celebratory hot chocolate for their efforts!
In term 2 we will continue, and hope to introduce more aims, as well as get 5 more golden tickets which will win a class prize again!

Fantastic work P5/6!
