During P6 Bikeability time on Monday afternoons, P4/5 have been busy working in small groups to create their own animations. The plan was to create an animation to help children in the school learn something that they might find tricky.
Our groups are making animations showing alphabetical order, 3 Times Table, Tricky Words and Telling the Time.
We have a couple of weeks left to tweak our animations and then hopefully we can share them with you!

What have we done today? It’s been a busy day with lots going on!
First the class went to see Mrs Inkster for their Music class. They have been working on, “Wonderland Tea Party Rhythms.” This has involved them using different phrases to help them clap out the rhythms. Then they saw how these rhythms looked in musical notation.
Grammar was waiting for them on their return! Different groups were looking at different aspects of grammar… speech marks, homophones using dictionary work and proper adjectives.
We took advantage of the nice weather to go outside to measure larger areas in metres and centimetres. We found keeping count of the whole metres the hardest part when measuring the length of the multi court! Tomorrow, we will try using the trundle wheel some more and we’ll look at the different ways these measurements can be recorded.
The afternoon saw us quietly reading…always a relaxing, enjoyable time! Then we wrote out our, “Diamond 9 Skills for Teamwork,”ideas. We worked on these last week, deciding in small groups, which skills we thought were most important when working together. See the photos below.
Lastly, some pupils went through to Mrs Inkster to let her hear their voices ahead of choir starting up again. She was very impressed!

Over a few weeks, we have been working on our class charter. First, we talked about the work of the United Nations which then led us to look at the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. There are many “Articles” in the convention but we focused on the main ones that we felt were important in our class. We chose those that fitted – Be Heard, Be Ourselves, Be Healthy and Be safe. We worked in groups to say what this would look like in our class as we learn together. We gathered everyone’s ideas and these were turned into statements that we are going to try our best to abide by in class. 🙂
There was also a discussion about what the children want their teachers to try to provide. Mrs Henderson and I will work hard on these too and we’ll try our best not to let you down. 🌞
A huge well done to Inara, Jade, Georgia and Lily who put themselves forward for Vice Captain of their House Team. They all thought so carefully about what skills they can bring to this role and spoke so well about their interest in the committees they will be involved in. It’s not easy to deliver a speech on Teams to the whole school but they were all so quietly confident and handled the occasion brilliantly! Good luck to you all. It’s a hard choice!
As part of our Health and Wellbeing lesson this week, we went outside to try a game that needed us all to work together to make the task work! We had to pass around the ball, without letting it touch the ground or our hands. It also had to touch everyone’s legs, no jumping over! After a few tries, we quickly realised that we had to alter how we sat together and how we passed it on. Our best time was 21 seconds! I wonder if it will ever be beaten?

We are very happy to share with you our P5/6 dance that we created in our class PE time. It’s got a joyful, summertime feel to it…perfect for the start of our holidays. Enjoy… and happy holidays when they come!
We have been so impressed by the efforts of the pupils in P5/6 to find out about a family member or important people who lived during World War II and create a presentation for the class.
Below are just some of the presentations that we got to enjoy this week. Other pupils chose to create PowerPoint presentations. It has been fantastic to see everyone developing their presentation skills and having the confidence to give it a go!
We heard about German captures, escapes from work camps, sunken submarines, medals from the King and so much more! We have discovered how important it is to pass on these incredible stories and keep it going for the next generation to enjoy.
Well done P5/6! What a brilliant way to end such a fabulous year with you!
Over the past week, we have been putting together a class dance with an African feel! It was a beautiful day so we took our rehearsals outside and managed to run through all the steps as a class. They’ve picked it up really quickly. In the afternoon Fearne’s Mum, Mercyline, met us in the multi court to show us some moves that would be typical in the Sengenya dance and then she helped us add some of these movements into the group sequences that the children created. They had some lovely, creative ideas! We’ll record these dances tomorrow and hope to share our work at the end of term. A big thank you to Mercyline for giving up her time for us. 😊
What a super Transition Day we had with the new P4/5/6 class this week! Mrs Smith came in for the first part of the morning when we spent some time getting to know each other with the Find the Fib game. Everyone (including Mrs Henderson and Mrs Smith) had to think of 3 things to share with the class about themselves. BUT, 1 of them had to be a fib. We had fun trying to guess which statement was false. Sometimes it was very tricky to decide!
We spent a little time writing down all of the things that were important to us. Some people had similar interests but it was also good to point out that it’s OK to like different things too.
We then got into groups and took part in some team building games. We played Lower the Hoop, Pass the Hoop, Lego building Relay and Silent Birthday Line up. We managed to put everyone in order from youngest to oldest…without saying a word! Well done everyone! Amazing!
The afternoon was spent doing a STEM activity. Each team had the challenge of building a newspaper bridge which would be strong enough to hold a textbook. Some bridges were so strong that they were able to hold more than 10 books! It was great to see how everyone worked together as a team and took responsibility for the task.
We are looking forward to welcoming the class back in August where we can continue to get to know each other and work as a team.
