Highlights of the Week 22 November

It has been a short week but enjoyable week.

The Biggies impressed me with the singing they are preparing for the Christmas Show. Mrs Rae has got them all singing with great enthusiasm, they sound great.

A couple of children ticked off their Health and Wellbeing targets by improving their press ups and filming for evidence.

The class are working in groups to plan and make items to sell at the Parent Council Christmas Fayre next week. They co-operated very well in planning and the first group “The Jolly Hollies” lead the class through making some salt dough while I sat and watched. I am looking forward to the other groups leading next week.

Finally we had a great 8 minutes writing settings today. Amazing concentration and fascinating descriptions for the class.

Zip!

Today the Biggies were creating a zip line in the playground. They showed great Problem Solving skills, doubling the rope and making the line higher when their first attempt failed. They also showed that they can really work together, great Team Work.

Visit to the National Museum of Rural Life

Last week we went a trip to the National Museum of Rural Life.

We went round the farm and saw lost of old bit of machinery in the museum. We also when to a workshop. Click on the thumbnails below to see some reports and writing by the Biggies.

Flower Art

We have been learning to tint and mix colours to paint like Georgia O’Keefe.

Highlights of the Week 26 Sep 2019

We have just returned from our joint sports day at Chapelgreen where Banton were again victorious. Even better the behaviour and attitude of all the children was brilliant.

Our teams lead by their team leaders all worked hard. Alana was mentioned by several staff from both schools as being particularly encouraging to her teammates. Grace did a great job of helping the primary one child in her team.

We had two successful learners this week:

Jonah showed he was a successful learner when he listened and joined in with the assembly about litter. He demonstrated his learning by going home, making a poster and posting it to his e-Portfolio!

Caelan has shown himself to be a very successful learner in maths. He calculates very quickly and accurately and can now successfully convert fractions and mixed numbers to decimals and back.

Aaron really showed his ICT skills when designing a fact sheet about Highland Cattle. His layout and design were excellent and the way he used a background image and then the cow head with a drop shadow, was great.

Junior Sports Leader’s – Hannah & Aaron

What it’s about

Junior sports leader’s is a club of p5-7’s getting coached to coach the p1-4’s to be more active and have fun.

Session 1

Julie from active schools came in to talk to us about how to be a Junior Sports Leader. We got booklets of how to be a junior sports leader. Julie quickly ran through session 1 of the booklet and then she teaches us some warm up games like Tig, What’s the time Mr Wolf and other games.

Session 2

Now Julie went onto the main games like Ice Cube where we couldn’t be seen moving. And we obviously had to start with a warmup game which was tig and we also made our own obstacle courses. And then we tidied up and we are to do session 2 in our little booklet.

K’nex Challenge

Today we went to the k’nex challenge at Kilsyth academy and we had to build a go cart and it had to have 4 wheels 1 seat 25 cm tall and 30cm wide or under. And you had to make it have a steering mechanism to turn. And there was 7 schools and we came 1ST!!! Then Ballmaloch was the runner up aka 2nd place. And I got sweets and 2 pencils and so did Fulton. But the other Banton team lost a mark because their cart was to wide. But they got 3rd!!!

You can see more pictures of the event on Kilsyth Academy’s Blog

Testing strength

On Tuesday p4, 5, 6, 7 did a Science experiment to test the strength of paper.
To test the strength of the paper we sellotaped the paper to a table and then we cello taped a plastic cup to the other end of the paper. To test the strength of the paper we put sand in the paper cup and the paper would break and the cup would land in someone’s hand 🖐. If the sand was not enough weight to make the paper break then we put weights in the plastic cup. Once the cup fell we attached it to a weighed and took a note of the weight. The paper that could hold the most weight was the strongest. Most people fount the strongest paper was the art paper.
