Home learning – week beg 8th Feb
Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. This month is LGBT month, and we would have been reading a book all about different families. This book is called “The Family Book” by Todd Parr. Click the link to hear the story being read on YouTube.
Literacy
Rainbow hop

Let’s continue the rainbow theme. Make giant letters in different colours and place them on the floor. You could start with (s a t p i n), someone at home can help, then they can shout out a letter and you have to run and jump onto the correct letter. You could even do it with the letters of your name and then find each letter in the correct order to spell your name.

Shapes are all around us and we had been exploring different shapes in the classroom. Look around the house and see what shapes you can find. You can also play this Shape game .In the game you need to feed the monsters the correct shapes.
Health and Wellbeing
Make a pizza

Make your own pizza at home. Try using a wrap, pitta bread or pizza base. Spread the sauce over the base, then add your toppings – there are lots of things you could add to your pizza. Why not have a go and create an LGBT rainbow pizza. Is your pizza round or square? Did you enjoy your pizza?
Chinese New Year

This week is also Chinese New Year. You could try different Chinese foods at home such as noodles, prawn crackers and prawn toast. Email me and let me know what you liked.
This year is the year of the Ox. I was born in the year of the Goat. Use this website to find out which animal you are and more information about Chinese New Year.
You could make a colourful lantern by folding a piece of paper in half making some slits not quite to the end of the paper, decorate then twist into a cylinder shape and secure with glue or staples and add a strip of paper to the top to create a handle. You could place a battery-operated tea light in the bottom and see the light shine through.
Morning Snowdrops!
How are you all? Here are some activities for you to try at home this week:

Oak Home Learning 8th Feb
Hi Oak team, Mrs Murray has ran into some technology issues and her laptop has died on her! So apologises for the work this week not being in our usual format.
Thankfully almost everyone has collected your February packs.
It is the week leading up to Valentine’s Day and for the past few years our cupid class have been the delivery service for Willowbank.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this service this year. However you can still have a think about who you would like to send a special message to.
I would like you to create and design a card for someone. This person should be someone you care alot about, someone who cares for you a lot, makes you feel safe and makes you happy when you feel sad. I would love to see your cards, email me a picture of your cards if you can nicola.murray@eastayrshire.org.uk

This week your home learning tasks are as follows;

Work through this section of initial sounds, can you get the first letter.
Some of you will be able to write each picture in your best hand writing. Some of you will be able to work on writing and forming the first letter of each picture.
Do not forget to sign and finger spell each picture too.
If you are up for a challenge, ask an adult to call out one of the pictures and try and remember how to spell it. 1 point for getting the first letter correct, 2 points for spelling the full word correctly.

Your numeracy task this week is to work on your coins.

Can you ask an adult for all the coins from 1p through to £2. Can you get the bingo money cards from your folder and take on our money challenge.
I challenge you to be blind folded and feel one coin at a time. Ask an adult to help you, they can ask you to think about the size and shape. An adult will remove the coin from your hand, you can remove your blind fold and look at the bingo card. Can you guess which coin you were holding?
Then everyone in the family take a bingo card and play a game, who will be the coin bingo champion in your family!
Time to get moving to keep us healthy. We all need to look after our head. If your head feels happy then you will have a good day. The best way to keep your head happy is to get your body moving every morning before you start your hard work. So you and your family please remember this message from Mrs Murray!
Remember, ‘Healthy Body, Healthy Head means Healthy You’.

To get active, complete the exercises from the sheet below (you will find this in your February pack). Can you complete each exercise for 1 minute with a 30 second rest in between each exercise.
Can you do all these exercises for three rounds, giving you a half hour exercise programme.

Cooking: Have a go at trying to make some oat flapjacks. Get an adult to read the instructions to you. Can you listen and complete each task one step at a time.

Health and Wellbeing
My Body- Your task this week, find the tooth brushing sheet in your folder, cut them all out. Discuss with an adult what is happening in each picture and then stick them down in the correct order.
Once you have created your poster can you pin this up in your bathroom.
Remember to brush your teeth in the morning and before going to bed. This will keep your smile looking lovely and you very handsome!

I want to finish with saying, I am very pleased with how well you are all doing, we all know this is very hard for you and your family. We are all desperate to be back together, have some fun whilst learning and working hard.
Well done Oak Team!
Well Hello Pinettes
How are you all?
This week’s blog is based round about the book ‘The Snail and the Whale’ – have you read it? I am sure many of you have – and some of you might even have this book at home.
Literacy
The first link below is the story being read – there are many versions of this on the internet. And the second link is the BBC Animated Film – which is lovely!

- What colour was the Whale?
- How many different types of animal did the snail see?
- Who had tooth grins?
- What did the snail write on the chalk board?
Have you every noticed snail trails in your garden – now I am wondering if they were trying to write me a message!?! Below is a link from the Scottish Wildlife Trust on making your own snail trails in your garden.

Practice making Snail curls, what you need is:
- A zip lock bag
- Cheap Hair Gel
- Food Colouring
- Glitter (optional – but the Pinettes like their Glitter!)
- Sellotape
You will need to judge the amount of hair gel you need – depending on the size of bag you have – there should be about a half a centimetre thickness when you flattened the bag out. Add a couple of drops of food colouring and glitter if you want and massage around till the colour is even. Zip shut the bag – make sure the outside of the bag is dry and then add a length of sellotape – just to make sure it is secure.
You can practice drawing your snail curls on the bag or other letters or numbers!
Numeracy

Eco
It is a bit early to be counting snails in our gardens – but we will remember to do that when they start to appear!! I am going to email you all out a snail counting activity for you to do at home. But you could recycle a egg box and make some snails and then count how many you have made – I reckon you will all want to make more than one!!! Below is a link from The Spruce Crafts that shows you how to make the snails and many other animals with an egg box – and even shows you how to make an ocean in a box – so cool!!!

Home learning week beg. 1st Feb
Our theme this term was Scottish Castles and we had lots of lovely activities to do. Here are some lovely activities that you can do at home. Have you ever been a walk to the Dean Castle? If you have the chance go and have a look – it having a lot of work being completed just now.
Literacy

Have a look on the internet to see if you can find any Scottish castles. This can be locally such as Culzean or Dean Castle to well-known castles such as Stirling castle or Edinburgh castle. You could then put some flour or rice in a tray and use your finger to try and mark make to draw a castle. You could even make some wavy lines as sometimes castles had a moat (some water) around it to protect it from the enemy. Do you have any books about castles or knights? If you do you can read them and look at the pictures with a family member. Can you spot in shields in the book?
Numeracy

Get a parent to help cut out some different shapes – circles, squares, triangles and rectangles. Then arrange these shapes to make a castle picture. Take a photo and sent it to me and I can share with your friends next week.
Health and wellbeing
Try having a taste of some Scottish food. It could be having a sip of Irn Bru. It could be trying some shortbread or tablet. You could try the traditional meal of haggis, neeps and tatties. You could also try some oatcakes and cheese. Why not try some square sausage and tattie scone. You can use a thumbs up or down to share if you liked it or didn’t like it. Or you could use this sheet. Scottish food tasting
My favourite is oatcakes and cheese. What is your favourite?
Science
Go on a walk and explore your senses. Attached is a sheet you could print or make your own to take with you. Senses walk
Remember to stop and listen – what can you hear? Stop and look – what can you see? Stop and smell – what can you smell? When walking, are you walking on different surfaces? The smooth surface of a pavement, the bumpy feeling of uneven grass. Is it slippy due to ice?
Effective Contributors/Successful Learners
As part of our Scottish learning activities, the Snowdrops have used recycled containers and different Scottish food textures to make percussion shakers. We found that things like lentils, split peas and macaroni are hard textures and make lots of noise when you shake them. Everyone enjoyed sprinkling them and playing as we filled our containers. Our Snowdrops learning at home may have made some too. The Snowdrops used their Scottish shakers during music sessions. Great work!

They are based around our ILP’s!
