Primary 6/7 at Rothesay Primary School have been working on a top secret challenge over the past few weeks. They have been receiving challenges and tasks from a secret organisation called MSB – Making Scotland Better. These tasks were to encourage the class to learn about elections and Scottish Parliament, to work with the local community to identify areas of Bute they wished to improve or change and to set up political parties to get these changes put in place.

P7 Young Leaders at Dalintober PS
P7 pupils at Dalintober have taken on the roles of Young Leaders to develop and lead a wide range of Lunchtime Clubs for all other classes in the school. The clubs are Football Skills, Dance, Space Activities, Chess, Cartoon Drawings and an Art Club. Dunoon Primary School showcase ‘Project Spark’ and ‘Vex IQ’ Robotics
At the Technology Showcase event at Dunoon Grammar School on Saturday 23rd May, pupils from Dunoon Primary School showcased a new powerful coding game called Project Spark. Using this software, children are able to build and play on their own worlds, stories and games.

St. Joseph’s Pupil Names Local Street
A great day was had by all recently when representatives of St. Joseph’s Pupil Council and Staff attended the opening ceremony of a new housing development in Helensburgh.
Last year the children of the school took part in a ‘Name the Development’ competition. Linked to the local community, St. Joseph’s pupils were always keen to take part – and to our delight, the winning entry came from a pupil at St. Joseph’s!

Butterflies….at Garelochhead Primary
Primary 1 and Primary 3/2 at Garelochhead primary have been looking after butterflies. They watched them grow from very tiny caterpillars, to huge big ones, before they turned into chrysalises. The butterflies took their time turning into butterflies and then they were set free. Primary 3/2 collected lots of natural things from the garden to make the butterflies at home in their habitat. The classes were very excited to see that the butterflies liked to eat fruit. Both classes enjoyed exploring the life cycle through observations of the real thing.
Outdoor Learning – Community and Parent Links at St. Joseph’s!
Outdoor Learning has really taken off at St. Joseph’s! Whilst Mrs Thomson and Mrs Savage have been leading developments in the school with Ross, the Pre-5 staff have linked the parental ‘Fun First Fridays’ with outdoor learning, allowing the parents to work and read with their children outdoors. Such is the commitment of the staff to continue to improve this aspect of learning; they are determined not to let the weather stop them.

Bowmore Celebrates V.E.Day!
Thanks to our wonderful kitchen ladies, Bowmore Primary enjoyed a lovely lunch which was reminiscent of the street parties, held in celebration of the Victory in Europe in 1945. This celebration was the brainchild of Mrs McHarrie, our kitchen lady! We had cheese, ham, egg and tinned salmon sandwiches, scones and pancakes, all washed down with lots of juice. We had to bring our own cup and plate as everyone did in 1945.
Achaleven Primary opens new houses in Connel
We were very proud, along with John Finnie MSP, to officially open the new ACHA houses that have been built in Connel. A few months ago we suggested some names for the new street and were so excited when one of the names, St Orans, was selected by ACHA. It was lovely that we were invited back for the official opening ceremony.

News Reporters Appointed at Kirn Primary
Congratulations to Oscar, Bronte and Nathan on their success in being appointed as News Reporters in Kirn Primary.
All three P6 children (as well as many other applicants from P6) completed their application forms, then attended an interview before receiving a letter to say they had been successful. All three were very happy to accept!

Sky Academy Skills Studio
On Wednesday 22nd April 2015 Toward and Innellan Primary schools went to Sky Academy Skill Studio in Livingston to make a news report on Natural Disasters. We got to use green screens, professional cameras (worth £60,000) and wear costumes. There were four studios each working together to make a news report. There were eight roles in each studio – Producer, Director, Scriptwriter, Camera operator, Reporter, Eyewitness, Expert and Editor.

The BarrowBand
Did you know broccoli comes from Italy? Or that carrots came from Afghanistan? Primary 1-4 pupils in the Mid Argyll area learned these and many other interesting facts about fruit and vegetables thanks to The BarrowBand. The BarrowBand’s goal is to ‘inspire a new generation of people (especially children) to love, understand and demand fruit and vegetables as part of their diet and lives.
Respectme at Kilcreggan Primary School!
Children at Kilcreggan Primary School have been working hard to respect each other. The Eco-committee presented a respectful assembly to encourage everyone to treat others as they like to be treated. They reminded us to say and do polite things and tell someone about our worries! They read ‘The Big Bag of Worries’, reminded everyone about the ‘Buddy Stop’ and encouraged everyone to try and earn a ‘Respectme’ badge.
Dunoon Primary Celebrate the International Year of Light
Dunoon Primary Celebrate the International Year of Light The reallysmallscience group, from Strathclyde University, helped pupils at Dunoon Primary to celebrate the International Year of Light 2015.
Classes took part in ‘nanoglow’ fluorescent workshops to learn why light is so important and discover natural and everyday items that glow. Pupils then used invisible ink pens to write secret messages and produce their very own glowing artwork.

Leading The Way In STEM Subjects
Pupils of Primary 7 at St. Mun’s returned to school after the Easter break to some very exciting news.
Having completed and sent off their designs for the Scottish Engineering Leaders Award for STEM 2014/15 where they had been challenged to interpret the question “If you were an engineer in Scotland – what would you do?” the children were delighted to hear back from the organisers of the competition.

A feast of Local Foods at Salen Primary Health Day
Primary 6 pupils from Salen, Lochdonhead and Ulva Primary schools treated all staff and pupils to a lunch of locally produced food as the highlight of Health Day where the theme was Healthy Eating. They took over the school kitchen for the morning and, under the guidance of sous chef Michael Shannon from the Western Isles Hotel, assisted by Iona, and Eilidh and Debbie from the school kitchen, they prepared and served a feast of wonderful Mull produce which had been kindly donated by local producers.

Parents Open Evening at Strone Primary School
Last Thursday, Parents of Strone Primary School were invited to attend our Open Learning Evening, where pupils had a chance to show off their learning this term. As a culmination of this term’s Tuesday Afternoon Skills Clubs, Parents were treated to delicious Rocky Road and Fruit Kebabs prepared by the Cooking Club, a guided tour of our Pop Art Gallery by the pupils involved in the Art Club, and they were also able to see examples of work displayed by the Science and Technology and Music Clubs.

Primary 7s at St. Mun’s Show Off Their Inventions
The pupils of St. Mun’s Primary have just completed their designs ahead of the deadline for the Scottish Engineering Leaders Award for STEM 2014/15. The Awards challenged Primary and Secondary school pupils across Scotland to research and interview inspiring engineers, providing them with a fantastic opportunity to engage with real engineers who could convey the importance of STEM in their daily working lives.

Cardross get Glowing!
Cardross Primary recently welcomed Chrissie Lamont from Education Scotland. Chrissie was impressed with our technology work at the Scottish Learning Festival and is looking forward to working with us on some exciting GLOW projects.
Dalmally enjoys BBC live drawing lesson!
Primary three to seven took part in a LIVE drawing lesson as part of the BBC’s Big Painting Challenge. Illustrator Nick Sharratt, famous for his illustrations in the Tracy Beaker books, gave us lots of hints and tips for drawing characters with different facial expressions. He showed us how changing a character’s eyebrows and mouth can totally change their expression. Everyone really enjoyed the session, gained lots of new skills and built their confidence with drawing characters.
