On the 23rd August 2017. The Learning Centre from Dunoon Grammar School went to Kirn Gala to raise money for Learning Centre trips and Activities. They sold Home Baking, Vegetables, Marmalade, Lavender and Candles all of which had been handmade by the Learning Centre Pupils or Home Grown in the School Garden expect a few vegetables. Not only did they manage to raise more than £200 but the pupils have also had the Experience Towards their Youth Achievement Awards

DUNOON GRAMMAR NEEDS YOUR HELP!
A team of pupils from Dunoon Grammar School is calling for help from members of the public after being shortlisted for the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Apps for Good UK finals.
The youngsters beat of stiff competition from over 25,000 young people, from 1,250 establishments, to reach the final 10 with their innovative SafeStep idea. However, in order to win, the team needs members of the public to vote for them.
St Mun’s Guitar Project
The Primary 6/5 pupils from St Muns Primary in Dunoon, recently spent two days visiting the Technical Department in Dunoon Grammar School, making their own guitars. Having been given a basic specification for a guitar, the pupils came up with their own unique designs and with the help of Mr Mollins and some S3 pupils, who acted as team leaders, they constructed the guitar parts from wood and pieced them together.
‘Father of the iPod’ surprises DGS Pupils with Words of Support
A class of S3 Business pupils at Dunoon Grammar school received a pleasant surprise last week when Tony Fadell – dubbed the Father of the iPod – tweeted words of encouragement for a learning experience the pupils were working on.
The pupils studying Business were working on a creative team exercise – tasked to rebrand Apple’s iconic iPod and devise an effective marketing-mix to breathe new life into the flagging sales of the once all conquering multimedia player.

Spotify in the DGS Spotlight to celebrate International Women’s Day
Budding Business & Computing entrepreneurs from Dunoon Grammar school participated in an exclusive Question and Answer session with senior executives of the successful technology company Spotify – to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March 2017.
Spotify is a music, podcast, and video streaming service with over 100 million users across the globe
Dunoon Grammar was the only school in Scotland to take part and one of only four schools from across the UK involved in the event organised by Apps for Good.

Dunoon pupils scoop top award at national event
A group of pupils from Dunoon Grammar School excelled in a national event last week when they scooped the top prize.
S1 students from the school’s business and computing department beat off stiff competition from across Scotland when they won Apps for Good’s first ever Scottish event.

Dunoon Grammar Legal Eagles Soar on Work Visit
Three Dunoon Grammar School pupils experienced a day in the life of an active Criminal Defence lawyer during a visit to McCusker, McElroy & Gallanagh last Friday.
The three soon-to-be Law School students – Georgia Brown, Georgia Wallace and Cambeul Walker – shadowed Terry Gallanagh, a partner at the Paisley based Solicitors.

Hostel Factor 2016
The Hostel Factor 2016 was held on 29th November, to a packed audience of parents and staff. The show started with Junior Presenter, Cameron, a terrific witty and explosive introduction to the show and St Andrews Night. Our own Ant & Dec presenters, Brandon & Josh super smart double act put the judges and acts through their paces with their witty and entertaining presenting skills.
DGS Takes part in the Scottish Disability Sports National Junior Athletics Tournament
On the 1st of June 2016, eleven pupils from Dunoon Grammar School took part in the Scottish Disability Sports National Junior Athletics tournament in Grangemouth. Competitors came from all over the country to race and take part in a great variety of sports. This is the sixth time that DGS pupils have participated.
S3 art pupils get protesting!
S3 art and design pupils in six secondary schools have recently had a day off timetable to work with two professional artists and Fiona Blakey, Cultural Coordinator. The project was inspired by a recent visit from the Travelling Gallery and supported by Argyll Youth Arts and Education Scotland through the Creative Learning Network scheme. Coordinated by CAST, the artists, Rob Walker, Amy Whiten and Gillian Steele, worked with pupils from Oban, Lochgilphead, Tarbert, Campbeltown, Dunoon and Helensburgh. During their time with the artists pupils tried a variety of printing and urban contemporary art techniques each producing a large protest placard. Clan Sports at Dunoon Stadium!
Dunoon Primary School held their annual Sports Day on Monday 30th May 2016 at Dunoon Stadium. We started the event with a Clan Parade around the 400m track led by piper, Cambeul Walker. The clan captains carried their tartan banners proudly and the children enjoyed parading round and waving to the many parents, grandparents, friends and siblings. Following this, clans competed in different activities for the Clan Sports.
DGS Autism Awareness
April 1st 2016 was Autism Awareness Day in Dunoon Grammar School. The Learning Centre pupils prepared a Power Point presentation to show at house time and made a whole army of gingerbread cookies to sell on the day. The whole school was invited to design jigsaw pieces which were joined together for display in the Forum, showing that DGS supports Autism awareness. The event was a great success so well done to everyone involved. A total of £120 was raised for our local autism support organisation: Autism Argyll.

DGS Learning Centre pupils visit Ardroy Outdoor Centre
Dunoon Grammar School learning centre pupils have returned from a big adventure at Ardroy Outdoor Centre on the shore of Loch Goil. This three day residential formed part of their John Muir Silver Award and involved learning centre pupils exploring hillsides, beaches and taking to the water in canoes. They built dens, made fire and some even made a mud slide down the hill!

DUNOON GRAMMAR SCHOOL VISIT TO AUSCHWITZ
On Wednesday 29th October, S6 DGS students Tylor Bracey and Simone Peter set off on a one day trip to Auschwitz in Poland, along with their History teacher, Mr Darkins. This life changing trip was part of an experience organised and part funded by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET), designed to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive and to educate younger generations on the lessons of the past.

Dunoon Grammar School – Advanced Higher German Work Experience Trip
Early on Saturday 12th September, Ruby Brown, Caitlyn Meaney, Chloe Macdonald and Calum MacKinnon set off for Schwarzenbach an der Saale in Germany with their teacher Mrs Clark to undertake work experience. Ruby and Caitlyn worked for Sandler AG, a company which makes textiles, Chloe worked in a Nursery and Calum spent his three days working for an Architect.

DGS Learning Centre Sponsored Walk
On Thursday 3rd of September all the learning centre pupils from Dunoon Grammar went on a sponsored walk. Pupils and staff set of from School down Kirn Brae, along the front all the way to Bullwood Nature Trail, near Innellan. Some senior pupils supported the younger pupils, keeping them safe and happy as part of their youth Achievement Award.
