On Wednesday 29th October, S6 DGS students Tylor Bracey and Simone Peter set off on a one day trip to Auschwitz in Poland, along with their History teacher, Mr Darkins. This life changing trip was part of an experience organised and part funded by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET), designed to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive and to educate younger generations on the lessons of the past.
The group flew out from Glasgow at 7am, landing in Krakow to be taken on a tour of the museum and memorial sites at Auschwitz by experienced HET educators, before flying back home again that night. The trip was a moving and profound experience for everyone involved. After taking time to reflect on their experiences, the DGS participants will lead school assemblies to spread awareness of the Holocaust and keep the memory alive of one of Europe’s worst tragedies.
What an amazing opportunity for Tylor and Simone. I would imagine such an experience will stay with them forever. It is so important that we educate our children and ensure that the Holocaust is never forgotten.
