Primary 5 – 11.12.2020

Hello,

It has been an exciting week for Primary 5 in the lead up to the Christmas holidays!

The children were working on creating 3D Shapes from nets in maths this week. This was quite a fiddly task however the class managed really well! Next week we are hoping to use our new skills to create a 3D Christmas decoration.

In Writing, the class were given the bad news that Santa’s elves were unwell and therefor Santa would not be able to deliver presents to everyone. The children worked hard on a persuasive letter to Santa discussing why they should be one of the few to receive a present! We had some great persuasive discussion and after the chaos of 2020 it is hard not to disagree that each one of them deserves a gift this year. However, good news from the North Pole tells us that all the elves are fully recovered and ALL children will be receiving their presents. Phew!

In Science, the children have been working extremely hard on their Endangered Animals fact-files and are now complete. Next Monday, they will be presenting their research to the class and we cannot wait to hear all their fantastic findings.

This week all the learners completed their first solo class talk on their landmark model and leaflet. It has been fantastic to see all the different creations that have been brought in and hear the lovely stories of making it home with family members. Each learner had created a tourist leaflet to go with their model to persuade others to visit. By the end of the presentations, we had planned a road trip around the United Kingdom to visit all these landmarks!

Primary 5M have been working hard on the Advent Calendar of Kindness this week and completing lots of different actions to spread happiness in the school and classroom. Our Box of Kindness is growing every day and soon will be taken to the local foodbank.

During PE lessons this week the class have continued to clock-up lots of miles towards the Primary 7 challenge to run to the North Pole. As a school, we have covered over 400 miles and have reached somewhere north of the Shetland Islands in the Atlantic Ocean!

In ICT, the children have joined a new Microsoft Team called the 12 Sways of Christmas. There are 12 challenges and the children can chose which ones to complete. This can be continued at home if they wish, and do not forget to share their creations with the class too!

Please remember, PE is now on a TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. Can you please ensure your child comes dressed appropriately for outdoor PE.

Reminders

In Numeracy, the children need to use their number bonds and their times tables on a regular basis and it would be very helpful if they could get some extra practice in. Please practice 2-10 times tables and number bonds to 100.
Homework on TEAMS this week, there will be a festive themed spelling and numeracy task as well as a Science Investigation – stock up on your ice cubes!
PE- Tuesday and Wednesday

There has been a change to the timetable – Outdoor PE will now be on Tuesdays with class teacher and Wednesdays with Mrs Ferguson. Please ensure the children have the correct kit for going outdoors- trainers, trackies/joggers, t-shirt and fleece/hoodie. They can come to school wearing their PE kit but a school jumper must be worn during the day. They can then change into their outdoor jumper when we go outside.

The children have chosen a book to read for enjoyment in class and it would be appreciated if you could continue to encourage your child to read for enjoyment at home.

Primary 4 10.12.20

Hello everyone

It has been a very fun and busy week again in Primary 4. Yesterday we finished filming our part of the nativity story for Carmondean’s “Christmas 7” Project. The children were able to watch our part in class today and were very excited and pleased about how it all came together! Keep your eyes peeled for a festive post on the blog next week from Mr Shanks which will contain the full finished product! We can’t wait for you to see it 🙂

In numeracy this week we began learning the 7 times table. The children are now confident in using their strategies to help them to solve times table problems and Mr Woodward and I are impressed with how quickly they are now being able to learn these new facts. Keep up the good work everyone!

Our Animals topic is nearly over and what a great topic it has been! This week we learned about endangered animals and the reasons why some animals are currently endangered. We learned some interesting new words such as – “poaching”, “climate change” and “deforestation”. Ask your child if they know what these words mean. Today the children then used their artistic skills to sketch close up images of some endangered animals. The children were given zoomed in images of the faces of a tiger, polar bear, panda and elephant. They had to look closely at the details in the picture and try to use a grid to copy the animal in proportion. We also learned about the importance of using thin, light lines when drawing the outline and how to shade the darker parts of our drawings with a pencil and smudging with our finger. Mr Woodward and I were extremely impressed with the finished results! Next week we are going to turn these works of art into posters where the children will use what they have learned to share messages about how to save these animals from possible extinction. Wow – well done Primary 4!

Important information:
– Next Friday (the 18th) is a dress down day in school. Children can come to school wearing a Christmas jumper, Christmas party clothes or casual clothes for a £1 donation. All monies go to the Carmondean PSA. The children will also be taking part in a Christmas Quiz!
– PE will take place as normal next week on Wednesday with Mrs Ferguson and on Friday with Miss Clark & Mr Woodward.
– This term will finish on Friday 18th December and the new term will resume on Wednesday 6th January 2021.

As this will be the last blog post of the term Mr Woodward and I would like to thank all of you for supporting your child and their learning so far in Primary 4. 2020 has been a strange year for all of us but it has been made easier for us as teachers by having your support and highly resilient and eager to learn children in both our classes!

Primary 4 3.12.20

Hello everyone

This week has been a fun, busy one in Primary 4! We were very excited to begin PE lessons with Mrs Ferguson on Wednesday (well done to everyone for remembering their PE kit!) The children learned of Primary 7’s challenge for the rest of the school to “Race to the North Pole!” before the Christmas holidays! The children ran, walked and skipped their way around the playground in order to add more miles to our tally. Primary 7 told us yesterday that collectively as a school we have ran the distance between here and Shetland already! We are looking forward to adding more miles to the total next week in PE!

In Reading we have been continuing to develop our skills of prediction and questioning. We predicted what would happen next by drawing and writing about the next part of a brand new story. Then we wrote questions for our friends about our reading books! Mr Woodward and I were very impressed with the open questions the children were asking which were often quite tricky to answer! Next week we will look at the skills of clarifying and summarising.

In Topic we are continuing to explore our “Animals” topic. The children showed their knowledge and understandings of food chains through describing the different stages of one. The children were able to use words like “producer”, “consumer”, “prey”, “predator”, “omnivore”, “carnivore”, “herbivore” and even “photosynthesis” to describe the process – wow! Ask your child if they know what these words mean 🙂

Preparation for our part of the Carmondean Christmas Show is coming along nicely. The children have learned a dance which will form part of the show as well as making signs to be shown during the performance. We are looking forward to filming the performance next week! Watch this space for more information!

Primary 4 27.11.20

Hello everyone!

We are having another fun and busy week in Primary 4.

This week the children found out about our school Christmas performance! Each stage in the school has been tasked with recreating a part of the Nativity story. The children have been excited to learn about Primary 4s plans and this week we began discussing different roles the children might have including dancing, acting and more! We are looking forward to putting our scene together 🙂

We have finished our work on 2D and 3D shape in Maths and we are now moving onto Symmetry. The children made a great start to this topic sharing lots of prior knowledge with Mr Woodward and I. We could identify which shapes were symmetrical and which shapes were not. The children used mirrors well to help them. Next week we will begin to create our own symmetrical shapes and objects.

In RME the children are beginning to learn about the Christmas Story with Miss Donaldson. This week they used Maps on the iPads to investigate where Nazareth and Bethlehem are in the world. They also explored how to get there from Scotland.

This week the children have been sharing the PowerPoints that they have spent the last few weeks creating all about their favourite animals. The children had to research information on their chosen animal including their habitat, diet, appearance and other interesting information. They also had to include text, pictures and slide transitions in their PowerPoint. Mr Woodward and I are so impressed with the PowerPoints that we have seen already and we have learned lots of new facts ourselves! We can’t wait to see the rest today!

Our PE days are changing.
Starting next week our PE days will be a Wednesday and a Friday each week. The Wednesday session will be with Mrs Ferguson our PE specialist while the Friday session will be with Mr Woodward and Miss Clark. Both sessions will continue to be outside. As the weather is becoming colder and more changeable please ensure that your child attends school on these days wearing long thick trousers/joggers, a school jumper, a thick jumper/zippy to change into at PE time and a waterproof jacket. The children will also require shoes on these days that are fine to get wet or muddy. Thank you for your support with this.

Reminders – Homework will be handed out on Monday each week. Each task will be on Teams but paper copies are also available from your child’s class teacher. The children have all three tasks explained in detail on the Monday and extra details can be found in assignments.
Please ensure your child brings a full bottle of water to school each day. This can be refilled throughout the day if needed.

Primary 3 20.11.20

Hello Everyone,

We were excited this week to meet the ladies from the museum virtually. They were very impressed with our ‘museum’ we have set up in our classroom and we await in anticipation for their museum objects to be brought to us. We learned lots of new things, and even found out about the Ancient Egyptian shoes! They were weaved from palm leaves and did not look very comfortable.

We completed lots of projects concerned with our Ancient Egypt topic too. We painted our clay cartouches, finished and painted our Egyptian masks and created a collage of ourselves made into a pharaoh. We even learned about 4 of the most famous pharaohs and created posters to share what we have learned.

Primary three have been working so hard on their joined handwriting too. Lots of us are managing to do this in a speedier manner and much more confidently and I have been bowled over by the standard produced!

This coming week will be the last week we have PE on a Monday and a Thursday. As of week beginning 30th November, PE will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will remind you of this next week and this will be written in the children’s homework diaries.

Hello,

It has been a busy week in Primary Five!

In Reading the children have started working in their Reciprocal Reading groups and seem to be enjoying their new books. They have been working on their reading skills including predicting what is going to happen next, summarising what they have read, asking questions and clarifying any tricky words.

In Writing this week, the class were working on creative stories with a Halloween theme. We listened to some Halloween music to get in the mood before writing some excellent, spooky stories using lots of adjectives and descriptions.

In Maths the children have been continuing to work on reading the exact time and time intervals. We are really improving with our time reading skills but everyone could do with a little bit more practice.

This week Primary 5M started with Spanish lessons where we were learning basic greetings. We were absolutely amazed by some of the children’s Spanish skills who were even able to teach us a thing or two! Primary 5G will be starting their lessons next week. Both classes are continuing with French this term and will be moving on to colours, numbers and food!

In Science, we have started our new topic of Endangered Animals. We had some excellent discussions about the impact of climate change on animals all over the world, and discussed what we can do to help. Over the term we will be doing lots of research into our chosen endangered Scottish animal to create a fact-file book.

There was much excitement in Primary 5 when we started planning the school activities for Children in Need. We made some colourful posters to advertise these activities; Dress Down Day on Friday 13^th November bring £1, Duck Race choose a duck for 50p and Pudsey wristbands for a reasonable donation. These posters will be put up in all classrooms and corridors to encourage everyone to take part.

Congratulations to Oliver in Primary 5G for winning the P7 Design-a-Bin competition!! His fantastic design is currently being made into a bin for the playground! We cannot wait to see the finish product!

Reminders

Homework on TEAMS this week is- a spelling activity, a time/triangle quiz and an activity based on our Rights Respecting Schools- Article 13 – Sharing Thoughts Freely. Some children were able to complete the activities online and some used their homework jotter. This jotter can be returned to school each week or they can take a picture of their work and upload that to the photo channel in their Team. Please just complete the activities at a time most convenient for you and your family.

Primary 6 23.10.20

Hi there,

Hope you all had a lovely half term break and are back into the swing of things once again.

In Maths this week we have been looking at Compass points and calculating various angle turns using a compass. We have also been looking at our addition strategies in Number Talks and looking at the quickest way we can get to the answer.

In Writing we have been peer assessing our work using a variety of success criteria. We wrote a descriptive piece and checked for use of similes, metaphors and alliteration. There were some excellent examples and we were very pleased with P6’s efforts.

In RME we talked about the Golden Rule: ‘Treat others how you would like to be treated’ and came up with our very own. There were some lovely ones such as: Don’t hurt, help! Don’t sing by yourself, sing with others!, Build bridges not walls! It has led to some good discussions about current news events too and how we can all be respectful to others.

In PE we have moved on to some HIIT Training. We had a little taster of this yesterday and it was a little wet underfoot so please can you send children in with gloves, old gloves, as we will be doing the odd burpee or mountain climber which will require hands on the ground! This will be on a Thursday.

Next week all children need to bring in their inventions by Friday so that they can be quarantined for the following week’s showcase to each other and their partner class. Homework on Teams will also resume from Monday.

Primary 5 2.10.20

Hello to everyone,

In Reading we have finished reading our novel ‘There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom’. The children have become very much invested in the life of Bradley and there were a few tears at the end with how much Bradley had changed. The children wrote fabulous letters to their best friends and we are hoping they will be able to deliver these to them.

In PE Tennis lessons with Mrs Ferguson the children are becoming very proficient with the tennis racquet. The balls are now heading the right direction! We do have a few budding Andy Murray’s and Johanna Konta’s!

In Art the children have created pictures of Bradley using the Pop Art technique. This involved using different thickness of lines, dots and primary colours. The finished pictures look fantastic.

Homework started this week on TEAMS. The children had a spelling activity, a symmetry quiz and were learning about Article 3 of their Rights. Some children were able to complete the activities online. Some children would prefer to complete them on paper. With this in mind we will be sending home a jotter for the children to complete their homework in if they wish. This jotter can be returned to school each week or they can take a picture of their work and upload that to the photo channel in their Team.

Miss Herd will be teaching Mrs Gilmour’s class on a Monday and Tuesday from now on. She visited us this week and got to meet the children.

We are looking forward to seeing and speaking with you next week through Skype during Parent Consultations. This is our first time using Skype so please be patient if we run in to difficulties. Fingers crossed for a smooth running of the evening.

Primary 6 2.10.20

Primary 6 have been working very hard this week on their descriptive writing skills with a particular focus on similes. If you could use three similes to describe yourself what would they be? Ask other members of the family too! Our Numeracy focus has been on rounding numbers to the nearest 10,100 and 1000 and in Maths we have been successfully drawing our own angles using a protractor. We have been learning the alphabet in French whilst consolidating our knowledge of French greetings and we have begun to take a look at our very own Scottish inventors as part of our new Topic focus.

Our boys and girls have been doing a fantastic job developing their fitness and stamina through our couch to 5k app. We will have one more week doing this before we move on to our Hiit training programme in the style of Joe Wicks. All of this will continue to take place outside where the Scottish weather will allow us so we ask you to make sure your child is appropriately dressed for this especially as temperatures have dropped significantly of late.

Homework started this week and we have been ironing out any problems with navigating your way around TEAMS as well as accessing it on various devices at home. Next week will continue in the same format with a Maths, reading and spelling focus. If there are any problems accessing these assignments do let us know as soon as possible.

Next week we will be having our first ‘virtual’ parent conferences. We are looking forward to speaking with you on line. You will receive information from our school office regarding the booking of appointments and how to attend each meeting through Skype for business. These will take place on Wednesday 7th October and Thursday 8th October.

A short but busy week in Primary 5!

In writing the children continue to work on descriptive pieces. This week we were looking at ‘My Favourite Place’, and we had lots of lovely discussions about the different places where we feel most calm, happy or excited. The children then wrote some wonderful pieces about their ‘Favourite Place’ using lots of interesting describing words.

In Reading the children are continuing to find out more about the characters in our novel ‘There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom’. This week has been all about birthday parties- who we would invite, creating invitations and deciding what present we would buy. The children were then able to use the internet to try and find the cost of the present they chose. Some were very surprised at how expensive things were!

With Mrs Ferguson in PE Tennis lessons are progressing well. Many are good at hitting the ball with the racquet and making it go in the right direction!

In Numeracy the children have been working with numbers up to 100 000. This has included rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000; estimating where numbers are on a line; writing numbers in words and using digits.

Homework will start next week and will be on TEAMS. Assignments will include activities connected to Literacy and Numeracy as well as other areas of the curriculum. All children have been issued with their Glow logins and passwords again so all should be able to access this homework. If there are any issues please contact us at school.

Even though it has been a short week this week we have managed to pack a lot in and the pupils have come back raring to go and putting in so much effort. We have continued to look at developing resilience strategies and this week used ‘Inside Out’ as our inspiration to create our very own ‘Brain Boards’. The creativity and enthusiasm on display was great to see and they have created some spectacular pieces of work! We have also continued to look at the work of artist John Pule in connection with our topic and have created artwork based on his art style to celebrate our achievements. We have a very achieving group and they are fabulous at celebrating not only their successes but the successes of each other!

We will begin handing out homework starting from next week and the majority of this will be through Teams assignments with hand in dates and more detailed instructions posted there. Your child’s log in for Glow has been stuck into the front cover of their Homework Diary. If you are unsure as to how to access Teams please watch this short instruction video which will show you how to get onto Teams as well as navigate to find the assignments:

We have continued in PE to learn about skipping and develop our co-ordination skills. Pupils have been very full of energy for this topic and have been showing off all kinds of skipping techniques. It has also been lovely to see pupils helping and encouraging each other and teaching each other skipping skills!

Please remember we have PE outdoors Mondays and Fridays. As the weather is getting colder and potentially wetter please ensure your child comes dressed appropriately for the weather that day.

Hello everyone,

It has been a great week in Primary 5!

In Reading, we are hooked on our class novel There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom as we near the end! We are so interested in seeing the big changes in the main character Bradley as he changes from the class bully to everyone’s friend! We have taken part in lots of drama-related activities, including ‘hot seating’, where the children acted out the personality of our characters and others ask them questions. We have some budding actors in our class.

In writing the children have been working on descriptive pieces. We worked on a piece to describe our physical appearance, and challenged ourselves to include as many vivid describing words as possible to our work. Many of the children managed this brilliantly!

The children have started Tennis, in their new block of lessons for PE with Mrs Ferguson. Most children have made some great progress, and could give Andy Murray a run for his money!

The children have been working hard in the French lessons and are continuing to develop their conversation skills. Tres bien!

In ICT the children have been looking at how to keep safe and talking about our digital footprint. We talked all about the different websites and apps we use, and how much they have changed from last year.

In maths we have been exploring time and shape. In Time lessons we are currently reading time in 5 minute intervals. In our shape lessons, we have been reminding ourselves of all the 2-D Shapes we find in maths and the real-world! We discussed what maths vocabulary we can use to describe a shape, and even made up some Wanted posters with great descriptions of shapes that had committed unspeakable crimes!

Primary 4 17.9.20

Hello everyone

It has been another busy and fun filled week in Primary 4! Our topic is in full swing and this week we explored perseverance through the story of Zootropolis. The children were able to discuss times in their own lives that they had shown perseverance and how it made them feel once they achieved something that had been a real challenge. We listened to the song “Try Everything” and discussed the importance of trying new things even though they might be scary! Also in topic we learned about the importance of being “Bucket Fillers” through watching this video – Bucket fillers
Ask your child what it means to be a bucket filler or a bucket dipper! Then we made our own 3D origami buckets and decorated them. The children then wrote kind notes for each other and left them in each other’s buckets to read. There was a real buzz about the classrooms as the children learned the real joy of being kind and being treated with kindness. Well done P4!

In PE we finished our block of football by playing some mini tournament games. The children showed great sportsmanship and improving skills. Well done to all of our men and women of each match and to every member of Primary 4 for trying their best. Tomorrow we will begin to work on skipping in PE! This may be a challenge at first but we are sure that the perseverance and resilience that the children are learning about in topic will help them to achieve great results and improve their skills 🙂

This week we entered Primary 7’s litter competition! They have noticed that there has been a lot of extra rubbish in the playground recently so they are setting up a new campaign to encourage everyone to put their litter in the bin. The competition involved designing a monster that could be the mascot for this campaign. We were very impressed by Primary 4’s inventiveness and imagination!

Hello everyone,

It has been another busy week for Primary 5.

In Reading, we have continued with our class novel There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom and we are all interested to see the big changes in the main character Bradley personality. We have been having great discussions about bullying, and how we can stop this from happening within our classroom and playground. We have made lots of bright coloured anti-bullying posters. Inspired by Bradley’s hatred of homework, the children had a lively debate about the good and bad points for getting homework.

In writing the children have continued with practicing their letter writing skills. This week they wrote a letter to Bradley telling him all about themselves. We came up with lots of fun and interesting facts to tell Bradley!

The children are continuing with hockey in their PE lessons and have made lots of progress. This week they played their first game, with both teams playing well and ending in a draw!

The children have been working hard in the French lessons, and have been enjoying acting out mini-conversations and drama scenes in French.

In maths we have been exploring time and symmetry. In Time lessons we are currently converting analogue to digital time and will be moving on to time durations next week. In symmetry lessons we have continued to use mirrors to find lines of symmetry in lots of different shapes. The children are really good at this and even have been finding symmetry in real-life objects too!

Hello everyone

We’ve had a very fun and busy week in Primary 4. We started to learn through our new topic this week. It is all about Resilience and persevering even when things get tough. We are exploring this topic through the Disney films – Moana, Inside Out and Zootropolis. This week we learned about Moana’s struggles to convince Maui to help her to achieve her goals. She tried and tried and tried and even when she was faced with big challenges she never gave up. As a result we decided to set ourselves goals for the month. We will try to achieve this goal before the October holidays and we will feedback on our progress every week. Please ask your child what their goal is! 🙂 These will be displayed on our walls so that we can all celebrate our own and each other’s achievements.

In PE we have been learning the skills of football for a few weeks now. We have worked on passing, dribbling and shooting. Next week we will play some tournament style football games. We’re looking forward to seeing the children show off their skills!

In writing we have been working on imaginative writing. The children have been using story starters as inspiration for some fantastic tales of adventure, magic and mystery! Mr Woodward and I have been very impressed by the children’s stories so far. They have been focused on writing detailed descriptions of settings and characters as well as remember our core targets of including full stops and capital letters and spelling all common words correctly. Well done Primary 4! In the next few weeks we will be moving onto personal writing.

Thank you for your support with reminding the children to come dressed in their PE kit on a Monday and a Friday. We are so pleased with how prepared the children are on these days. Well done Primary 4!

Primary 3 4.9.20

Primary 3 have been ‘wow-ing’ us with their skipping skills. They have been using French ropes, a long rope and ankle skipping equipment. We have all been so impressed with the improvement we have seen and experienced and look forward to next week where we can demonstrate our skills in front of the rest of the class. Here are a few pictures of us in action!

We have also been given our computer log in details and have been very excited to try out using 3D paint and typing on Word documents. We have been exploring the toolbars and how we can manipulate text. Next week we will attempt to include a picture in our document and then hopefully produce a piece of work done fully on the computers.

Our Health and Well-being topic of Fantastic Mr. Fox is getting very intriguing. We have learned of Mr. Fox’s plan to keep his family safe and well-fed and can’t wait to find out what happens next. Some of us have been reading it at home and know, but we are not giving away the ending!

We aim to watch the Fantastic Mr. Fox film next week, please let us know if you do not wish your child to participate in this lesson and alternative arrangements can be made.

Primary 5

Hello everyone,

Primary 5 have been working hard this week.

In Reading the children are enjoying finding out what Bradley is up to in our novel There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom. We have been finding information in the text about what the characters look like and then drawing them. The children then identified what the qualities of a good friend and have produced excellent posters to highlight these.

In writing the children were learning how to write a letter and set it out correctly. They wrote a letter from Carla to Bradley to persuade him to visit her. There were lots of good reasons about why Bradley should visit. We are continuing with the letter writing theme next week.

In PE lessons the children are learning hockey skills. This week they focused on passing the ball and dribbling. They are getting better at controlling the ball and not having to run after it so much!

We have started French lessons with the children. They have learned to introduce themselves and ask questions about others age and name. We have some talented French speakers already.

In ICT the children have been looking at how to keep safe when using the internet and discussing the various sites they use. All children now have computer and Glow logins. It would be good if they could log in and leave a message in the playground channel on our TEAMS page.

In maths we have been exploring time and symmetry. In Time lessons we are currently working on converting analogue time to digital time. Some of the children are finding this quite challenging. In symmetry lessons we have been using mirrors to find the lines of symmetry in a variety of shapes.

Primary 2 31.8.20

Primary 2 have settled very well back in to school. They have been working hard recognising numbers up to 30 and beyond. We have also been naming 2D shapes and creating shape monsters. Some have even been displayed on the wall!

We have be doing some reading aloud in class in small groups and discussing character features and personalities. The children have also been writing about themselves and wrote a short story about a superhero.

In science we are learning about our senses. Last week we put our eyes to the test and this week we are investigating our hearing. We have also been having lots of discussions about our feelings. Every day the children share their feelings by placing their name on our feelings chart. We have also been talking about SHANARRI and what it means to them.

Primary 2 have been fantastic at playing in their area and washing their hands! Let’s keep it up!

Primary 2 have P.E on a Wednesday and Thursday so please send your children to school with their P.E kit on. Please make sure the children come to school with a water bottle and names written on clothes/jumpers. Thank you.

Hello to all,

Another busy week in Primary 5.

Our Interdisciplinary Topic for the beginning of term is connected to our novel- There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom. We are reading and discussing it during Reading lessons and completing tasks related to it at other times. The children have been predicting what will happen next and improving their comprehension skills. Some are horrified at how badly behaved Bradley is! We have also created 2 life sized Bradley’s and will be using them to identify good and bad behaviour.

The children have chosen a book to read for enjoyment and it would be appreciated if you could continue to encourage your child to read for enjoyment at home.

In Health we have been looking at the Wellbeing Indicators and how they relate to our life. The children are very good at naming the indicators in the correct order. Ask them if they can do it for you! They have also been discussing what a trusted adult is and identifying 5 who they can speak to.

In PE lessons the children are learning hockey skills. This week they focused on dribbling and controlling the ball with the stick. This is harder than it looks and many children found themselves chasing after their ball! Practice makes perfect though!

Primary 6 28.8.20

Primary 6 have settled in well to our first term and are enjoying being back at school. We have chosen a new topic to study called The Ancient Greeks and are already enjoying learning about them. This week we have learned about 2 Greek legends, Medusa and Pandora’s box. Our reading a writing have been related to these stories and we have completed newspaper reports about them. In Maths we have been looking at the Greek number system and data handling to record results related to the Olympics.

In Health we have been revising the Health and Wellbeing indicators.

We have also started our modern languages and this week we have been revising greetings in French and Spanish.

Our PE days this term are Wednesday and Thursday and we are working in increasing our stamina for cross country running. Most people have remembered to come dressed in PE kit in those days which has been a great help.
