Weekend antics

Eddie found Mrs Wotherspoon and Mrs McLean’s secret stash of sweeties and was found looking very pleased with himself on Monday morning!

Yesterday he disappeared from the school office and it appears that he went to the Primary 6 Christmas party with the other elves who live in Primary 6.  It looks like they had great fun – Eddie the Elf is the one in the middle!

He still hasn’t returned to the office this morning so we wonder where he has gone to now?  Keep an eye open for him boys and girls!!

Primary 5 have been getting into the Christmas spirit this week.  On Monday we watched a pantomime called Beauty and the Beast.  It was very entertaining and everyone loved it.

In RME we revised the Christmas story and wrote news reports which we performed to the class.

In Maths we have been learning about the properties of 3D objects and have made cubes, cones and cuboids from nets.  Some of us turned these into Christmas decorations which are on our class Christmas tree.

We have continued learning about endangered animals in Science and this week we were learning about Invasive Species.  We discussed red squirrels and learned about conservation projects to try to help save them from extinction.

Next week we have our Christmas party on Tuesday, we have been learning some traditional dances and games in preparation at PE.

Have a lovely week

Mrs Jamieson, Mrs Davies

Primary 7

Our novel, Wonder, came to an emotional end this week . Everyone felt that the book had taken us on an , “Emotional rollercoaster”, but was an extremely enjoyable and memorable read . The Author R.J. Palacio has written a follow up to the book which focuses on the stories of some of the peripheral characters. It is called Auggie and Me, just in case anyone wants to add it to a Christmas list!

We are hoping to watch the film of Wonder in class, however, it is a PG and therefore we will be sending home permission slips, please look out for them .

Christmas celebrations have well and truly started in school, with Primary 7 serving the Christmas lunch on Tuesday. They did an excellent job and carried out their duties in a responsible manner. We brought the festivities into our classrooms by learning Feliz Navidad.

Talent show auditions will be held on Wednesday afternoon. We know that we have a primary year that is full of talented individuals, it would be great to see some more acts signing up !

Primary 4 6.12.18

Hello everyone

Primary 4 have had an exciting week. On Monday we saw the panto “Beauty and the Beast”. The children loved joining in with the show! On Tuesday many children ate their Christmas lunch – it looked delicious!

This week in science we have been learning about Inheritance. We have been discovering that many of the traits we have are inherited from our parents including whether we have attached or detached earlobes or if we can roll our tongue! We have also been learning about how some of our behaviours are learned – like riding a bike or doing a cartwheel. Today the children used coins to create their own baby monsters with traits from their monster parents. Heads meant the mother monsters trait and tails meant the father monster!

Our Indoor PE day has changed to a Wednesday. The children enjoyed playing different catching games and also learning Scottish country dances which they will perform at their Christmas party next week.

The P4 Christmas Party is next Wednesday afternoon. The children can bring their party clothes to school with them to get changed into after lunch. Alternatively you may pick your child up at 12:30 then they can go home for lunch to get changed. We can’t wait! 🙂

This will be the last week of spelling and maths homework this term. Both will resume in the new year. Each group will finish their reading books by the end of next week and all books should be returned to school by Monday 17th December at the latest if possible.

Reminders –
Spelling due Friday
Reading pages due Monday
PE days – Tuesday and Wednesday
P4 Christmas Party – Wednesday 12th December @ 1:30.

Thank you for your support. Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Clark & Miss Donaldson

Eddie the Elf has been causing chaos in school overnight playing with the Christmas decorations.  He is now back in the school office watching the children going up and down the corridor looking for the quietest class in the school

Primary 1 Update

We have had a very festive week in Primary 1 so far with a lovely visit from the Pantomime on Monday and our Christmas Lunch on Tuesday.

The children have really enjoyed turning their Toy Shop role play areas into Santa’s workshops. They are taking on the role of Santa’s helpers and using their literacy and technology skills to read the letters, make a naughty and nice list, make toys, wrap them and write gift tags.

In Science, the children have been investigating forces by discussing  how toys move and using the appropriate vocabulary to describe this e.g. push, pull, twist etc.

In numeracy we are continuing to work on reading, writing, counting and recognising the numbers to 20.

Next week, we have the Nativity Dress Rehearsal on Tuesday (11.12.18). If you received a letter requesting any small costume pieces, please can you send them to school with your child before Tuesday?

Thank you for your continuing support,

Primary 1 Teachers.

Primary 2 4.12.18

Primary 2 have two visitors to our classrooms this week. On Thursday, Mountain Rescue are going to come and speak to the children and on Friday, the Ambulance Service are visiting. Both of them will be showing the children their uniforms, explaining their job roles and teaching the children some basic safety/ first aid information. We are looking forward to welcoming them into our class.

Homework was issued yesterday. This is due to be handed in on Thursday 13th December. Remember to sign off any activities and put all drawing/writing into the “share it” jotters.

Both classes will be receiving P.E from our P.E specialist on Wednesday mornings so please remember to bring in P.E kits and water bottles. The children will also receive Music with Mr Shanks on a Friday.

Today is the Christmas lunch which we are looking forward to! Yesterday we watched the panto which was fabulous and the kids loved it! Our Christmas Party is Monday 17th December (afternoon) Children can bring party clothes to change into after lunch.

Nativity is still on going. If you were given a costume letter please bring it in as soon as possible (dress rehearsal next Wednesday).

Thanks,

Miss Rafferty and Mrs Muir

The Christmas Fayre was such a huge hit! Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported us. We will be counting up our profit today and this will be put towards our P7 hooodies.

In Maths we have been focusing on angle and coordinates. We have been looking at how we use angles to draw different types of triangles and ensuring that they are accurate by checking with a partner. In coordinates we are moving on to using all four quadrants to plot points. We will be able to use every quadrant and discuss how we know where to plot sets of coordinates.

We had art in class last week and we were working on our collaborative skills. Each child was given part of a whole picture and asked to copy the details on their part, and then we would put all the pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle to see the whole image. We had to think about scales and shading for this task and work with the people who had the connecting pieces to ensure the picture would be proportionate. The results were incredible and showed us just how differently each section could be interpreted.

Last week was an incredibly sporty week for us all! We started off with the handball tournament on Tuesday where the team didn’t lose a match! They came first overall and we are very proud of them! Wednesday saw two sporting achievements; Keira and Lauren who placed 6th and 8th in the SSBX skiing competition and the P7 Sportshall Athletics Festival! We are extremely proud of the girls for placing so high out of almost 100 participants and we hope our P7s had a great time at their festival.

The St Andrews Day assembly was a huge hit. Well done to all classes for their beautiful singing! Parents, there is still time to ask your child to sing the original version for you!

Hello everyone

Primary 4 had a very exciting week! The children worked very well in their enterprise groups to finish their products. Human Resources did an excellent job at supporting every group while Accounts calculated our profit; Quality Control worked on repairing bottles; Marketing picked our company logo and Advertising chose the best posters to be displayed. The reindeer sweetie bottles have now arrived home. Thank you all for your support of our Enterprise Project. It was a very valuable experience for the children to take part in.

Our PE days are changing. There will be a note in homework diaries about this on Monday. PE with Mrs Ferguson will now take place on Wednesdays. Outdoor PE will remain on a Tuesday. We also look forward to art lessons with Ms Fox starting on Wednesday also. The children will no longer take part in the weekly mile on a Friday. This will reconvene in the summer term.

In writing the children worked very hard to create excellent beginnings to their story “The Magic Collar”. Earlier in the week the children had enjoyed exploring a story all about Lumi the dog with the magical collar who spent time with Santa and his reindeer in the North Pole. The children then wrote their own stories about dogs with magical collars trying their best to write in full sentences and include some of our special trickier “boost” words (glimmering, whirled, drifted and anticipation) in their own writing. The children worked fantastically well and these stories will be a fabulous read when they are completed. 🙂

Reminders –

Christmas lunch is on Tuesday 4th. The children will watch a pantomime in school on Monday 3rd 🙂
Children should read their reading pages by Monday 3rd December please.
Spelling homework will be given out on Monday and due in on Friday.
There will be no maths homework this week.

Thank you for your support. Have a lovely weekend.

Level 1 team ; Eva, Rosie, Anya and Dorka  won TEAM GOLD

Level 1 individual : Rosie won BRONZE

Level 3 Team;  Karly, Carla, Amber and Zak won TEAM GOLD

Level 3 individual: Zak  won SILVER

What a day!  Well done again to all

Primary 1 29.11.18

This week in phonics, primary 1 are learning the sounds h and w. They have been forming the letters neatly, thinking of words with each sound and making short words on the magnetic boards. They are making great progress with this, thank you for all your help at home!
In maths we are looking at the numbers 11-20; how to form them and counting out amounts on tens frames and rekenreks.
We are making great progress in our nativity rehearsals. The children all know their lines and are now learning where to go on the stage. Please continue to practise the songs at home. If your child needs to provide any small items of clothing for costumes, they will receive a letter home in their homework folder in the coming week. Please let us know if you need help sourcing anything.
Next week our PE time will be changing. The children will see Mrs Ferguson, our PE specialist on a Thursday morning. Please can you send your child with a PE kit on this day. It is helpful if your child can wear their PE kit under their school clothes to speed up changing.
There are a number of Christmas related activities coming up in the next few weeks…
Tomorrow evening is our school Christmas fair from 6-8pm. Tickets can be bought from the office.
On this coming Monday ‘hopscotch’ an outside Pantomine company are coming to school to perform ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to the children. We have been learning the ‘hello’ song to sing with them on Monday and are looking forward to the performance.
On Tuesday it is our school Christmas lunch. You will have ordered your lunch already. If your child is having a packed lunch they will eat it in the classroom.
Thank you for all your support

Primary 2 28.11.18

Primary 2 will be performing their Scottish song in Friday’s assembly. Please continue to practise this at home.

We have been learning about the Ambulance Service, the roll of the Paramedic and First Aid kits. We are getting a visit next weekend from the Ambulance Service which we are looking forward to. We are hoping the Fire Brigade will be able to rearrange a visit soon.

We are well under way with our Nativity. We still have lots of work to do but the children are trying very hard.

Homework is due on Thursday- remember to put all activities into the “Share it” jotters.

Next week, both classes are receiving P.E with Mrs Ferguson on Wednesday.

We have the Panto on Monday which is very exciting and Christmas Lunch on Tuesday!

Primary 7 23rd November 2018

Our little elves have been working hard! The classes have been extremely busy this week making and advertising their products and games for the Christmas fayre next Friday (30th). Everything is coming together and we are finalising our floats, prizes and layout of the stalls next week. We have our expected profits calculated so we hope to see you all there to support us!

In Maths we have been continuing to look at negative and positive integers and relating this to everyday life, such as in temperatures and bank accounts. We even spotted the relationship we have with negative integers at the moment, as we are borrowing money for the floats for our school fayre enterprise! Fingers crossed we will have successful stalls and games at the fayre and will make lots of positive profit.

The St Andrews Day assembly is fast approaching and this year the Primary 7s will be singing a new song for you all. We have been dedicating time to learn Auld Lang Syne, and not the version you sing at New Year! We are learning the original version which is much slower and sweeter. Ask your children to teach you it!

In light of Book Week Scotland, we had a fantastic, informative session at Carmondean Library yesterday. We were learning about different types of books, how books are shelved and how to apply for a library card (which your child has been given a letter about). We hope this has encouraged the children to visit the library more and share their experience with those at home.

Primary 3 News

What a busy week!

It was lovely seeing some of you at the Read Write Count story time and we hope you and the boys and girls are having lots of fun trying out the activities. We have been hearing some of the stories our boys and girls have been inspired to write and they have been amazing!

We are getting our teeth stuck into our Nativity show. Songs and words are on the blog so please encourage your child to practise these. If they have any lines could you also support them and ensure they know these off by heart? We will let you know about costumes, etc., nearer the time.

Next week is our Christmas Fair at 6pm on Friday 30th November. Looking forward to seeing you all there! Kick start the Christmas month off in style!

Have a good weekend!

Primary 4 22.11.18

Hello everyone

We have had a lovely week in Primary 4. Our Enterprise topic is in full swing! The children were allocated jobs within our business “The Reindeer Club” and created ID badges to show who they are and the role they play. Today, the children created our product – Reindeer Sweetie Jars. They are looking fantastic! The children worked so well with lots of different materials and listened carefully to instructions. We will decide upon what sweeties the jars will contain next week and then our finished products will be complete!

In maths we have been learning how to mentally subtract 2 digit numbers using a variety of strategies. We have been using a hundred square effectively to speed up our calculations. Next week we will be mentally subtracting within 3 digit numbers.

Next week there will be no Indoor PE with Mrs Ferguson. PE with Mrs Ferguson will resume the following week however our Indoor PE day will change from a Thursday to a Wednesday afternoon. This information will be in the children’s homework diary closer to the time. Outdoor PE will stay on a Tuesday.

The Christmas Fair will take place next Friday 30th November. Please contact the school office for tickets. We look forward to seeing lots of you there 🙂

Reminders –

No indoor PE next week.

Outdoor PE on Tuesday.

Spelling and maths homework due in tomorrow.

Reading pages to be completed for Monday.
