Free time…..what to do I wonder?

We had some free time today and chose to do lots of different things.  Nothing was set, it was all our own interest.  This is how we kept ourselves busy.  We had a picnic, made chilli chicken, pizza in a pan and used the pots for musical instruments.

Some of us made a city, an aeroplane, a car and people out of construction materials.

Others decided to write letters and colour in, taking great care to do their best, as always.

A few of us went fishing, designed tractors, did jigsaws and found dinosaurs.

Inventors and designers were also in the classroom.  A tv is important in our eyes so it was important to design a tv with magical day and night tv screens at the same time.  It was just as important to have the switches, control panel and sockets at the back of it!

Imagination is key

We’ve used our imagination in many ways.  We’ve been explorers looking for treasure, finding long lost animals and even hiding from robbers.

Exploring hasn’t been everyone’s cup of tea so there have been some inventive cooking classes and meals made during our time outside.  From grilling sausages and pasta……

to making soup and other glorious recipes…….

with all ingredients foraged from the forest!

Then cooking hasn’t been for everyone either.  Being in the south mainland and having many farming opportunities, the hairst has been a very busy time!

Tractor and combine harvester designs were discussed before the final model chosen and made.  Crops were harvested and taken in and the staff were given many lessons on what to do and how to help with this busy time.

Next, the sheep have to be ca’ad…..

Weather report

Can everybody please record the weather and write a sentence or a  couple of sentences to say what it is like today though comments please.  If your children are able to type the comment then even better!  You can continue to comment on this and record the weather for the next week too.

E.g. –  Friday 20th March – The weather today is warm and bright.  The temperature today is 12C.

These words below may help.

Word bank: sunny, rainy, windy, cold, dry, cloudy, temperature, direction.

2D Shape

Today small groups have worked around different 2D shape stations.  They were busy playing a shape game with Mrs Sutherland where they had to spot shapes in the environment.  Some had to create and continue repeating patterns and in pairs, they worked on describing shapes for their partner to guess.  The final station asked them to create 2D pictures and patterns on an iPad and count how many of each shape was used.  Everyone enjoyed the Maths session today!

P2 Jolly Grammar Work

Primary 2 have been finding out all about nouns.   They have been taught the Jolly Phonics actions to help them remember proper nouns and common nouns and have been learning that proper nouns need to be written using capital letters.  They got busy taking photos of nouns they could see all around and have been writing labels to be displayed beside them.

French Food Fun!

P1/2 have been using the laptops to research French food this term as part of their Food topic.  Some food sounded really yummy – macarons, crepes, baguettes and tarte tatin just to name a few.   Others were a bit surprising.  Have you ever tried frogs legs and snails?!

We decided that we wanted to try making some of the yummy treats for family and friends to enjoy.  Once we found some simple recipes, we wrote shopping lists and began the preparations for our French afternoon.  Invitations were made and sent out.  Then it was time to begin making and baking!  We also made a milk chocolate tarte and a white chocolate tarte but forgot to take photos!!
