One of our P2 pupils has had an exciting morning today! Roma was a runner up in the “Name A Gritter Competition” and has been to Tingwall Primary School to collect her prize. Her winning entry “Snow Blaster” won her a sledge, winter hat and a goody bag. Well done Roma!!
This week, P1 have been preparing for Remembrance Day by painting poppy pictures, talking about how and why it is commemorated and taking part in a one minute silence.
Here is the video clip we watched together. In quite simple terms, it explains what Remembrance Day is and how it came about. It also tells the story of how the poppy became a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day. We thought you might like to share watching it with your child.
What a quick term!! It’s been super to get to know all the new P1 pupils and to welcome back the P2’s who have been so good at helping to settle in our newcomers! Have a restful and fun filled holiday, hopefully with weather like today!! See you all on the 26th October.
On Thursday 6th October we celebrated National Poetry Day by reading poems throughout the day. We listened to a funny poem called “Sick” about a girl who wanted to stay home from school and we listened to Mrs Smith’s favourite poem from her childhood called “Rice Pudding.” We also enjoyed watching “The Jumblies” and “The Owl and the Pussy Cat” on the whiteboard. Then we tried writing our own senses poem. Everyone produced a super piece of writing. Here are just a few. The rest can be seen displayed outside P1/2. To round it all off, Christina brought in her poetry book from home and shared her favourite verses with us the next day. We really enjoyed our day!
On Thursday, we learned our last letter before we break up for the October holidays. This morning, Leo brought in something special to show us! We were delighted to see his very own x-ray photograph to help us learn and remember the x sound. Good work Leo!
A rainy morning didn’t stop us enjoying our visit to our local Church of Scotland! We spoke about why and how babies are christened and saw the font they use. We also learned some new names for the things we saw … the pews, lectern and pulpit. We heard about the history of the church and, after Mrs Leslie’s Assembly, we also looked at Betty Mouat’s resting place.
As part of our “Around Our School” topic and our Religious and Moral Education studies, we visited one of our local churches. Reverend Thomson told us all about the history of the church and showed us around all the important parts of the building, including the baptismal pool. He showed us old photos of how the church used to look inside and spoke about the changes they’d made. We are looking forward to our next church visit so we can compare the two churches in our local area.
Mrs Smith visited our class today with her new baby. We all crowded around to ask lots of questions and get a cuddle! Of course, baby Leva slept through all of the excitement!
Primary 1 have been settling into school life really well and will start full days this coming Monday. So, what have they been getting up to? Here are just some of the activities they have been involved in. They’ve packed a lot in!
This morning, we had a visit from the Childsmile team. We all got our new brushes and showed Shona how much we remembered from her last visit. She was impressed with our brushing! Keep up the good work at school and home too P1/2!
