1st Feb Art Ideas :)

Good morning!

I hope you are all well and have had a lovely weekend. Below are a few art ideas that you might like to try at home.

Try creating your own fairy tale castle, using black paper and grey paint. This creates a lovely contrast.

  • What else could you use to create the bricks? Newspaper? Sponge paints? Small stones? Pasta shells?
  • Have a look at the link, there are some truly beautiful castles in Scotland. Have you ever visited any?  https://www.wildernessscotland.com/blog/most-dramatic-castles-in-scotland/

Lego Bird Feeder

Check out this super lego bird feeder!

  • Do you have any old lego ? Perhaps you could try to make  a bird feeder.
  • Watch the following link for inspiration! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEvRhrNX3l0

Take acre and stay safe!

Hello Transition class, it’s Monday again! It’s a bit of an exciting week for home learning this week. We have a new resource to use called Giglets. I will email you your login details. This week’s task with Giglets is to read the first book and get used to how it works. I will set different books and tasks in future weeks.

Have any of you read or looked at the book called ‘The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse’ By Charlie Mackesy ?The author and artist has drawn some new pictures that need to be coloured in. They give us a time to be calm and to think. I hope you enjoy them. Don’t forget that I’d love to see your work so take some photos and email them to me.

Here is your Home Learning for this week Home learning 4

Week 4 – Home Learning Challenges

Hi Planets Class! Hope everyone is doing ok. Missing you all lots and sending lots of virtual hugs.

This week’s blog will tie in with celebrating LGBT month which starts today, the 1st February.

  • Literacy *

Below are a few LGBT themed stories from YouTube. Can you listen to a few? What is your favourite?

Giraffes can’t dance

Mommy, Mama and Me

And Tango Makes Three

I am Jazz

Our favourite Singing Walrus have a rainbow colours song. Listen and join in with some of the colours you recognise.

  • Numeracy *

Can you go on a colour hunt in your wardrobe and find clothes/shoes/accessories showing every colour of the rainbow? Maybe you could talk siblings and/or parents or family members into doing this too.

If you’re brave enough, go on a local area walk wearing your rainbow colours with pride.

Extra challenge….you could navigate your walk in the shape of a rainbow using Google Maps!

  • Health and Wellbeing *

Can you bake rainbow themed cupcakes? Use rainbow coloured sprinkles to decorate similar to the images below, or can you be really fancy and make rainbow buns?

  • Science *

Complete the skittles rainbow science experiment, all you need are some skittles, a plate and warm water.

Arrange the Skittles in a single row coloured pattern around the edge of the plate. Pour over enough warm water to cover all the Skittles and the plate itself. Watch and wait as a rainbow appears on the plate, the colours will move towards the middle and create a whirl of colour.

Hi everyone!

Below are home learning activities for this week 🙂

Trace different letters or lines into the flour.

For an added challenge, ask a family member to say different words and try to spell them in the flour.

Fill a sink or bath with some water.

Collect different bottles, jugs and cups. Use these to explore the volume or water each container can hold.

You could walk like a money, slither like a snake or hop like a kangaroo!

Watch the video below for some different ideas.

LGBT:

The month of February is LGBT awareness month.

Listen to the story ‘And Tango Makes Three’ which talks about a family of penguins who are a little different.

Think about who is in your family. You could look at some family photos, or create your own family portrait.

Scotland IDL: Effective Contributors

Last week we celebrated Robert Burns and all things Scottish by taking part in lots of fun activities!  We read poems, decorated biscuits, made thistles and listened to Scottish music!  Here are some of our favourite photos from last week:

We were effective contributors as we took part in all of the different activities and absorbed the Scottish culture with each other!

Home Learning Week 4 – IDL

Hello, Beech!

Our mini-topic this week is based on the story called ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson!

To listen to the story, click here

Literacy

Make your own snail trails!  See if you can make a giant snail trail on the ground outside for someone to follow.  You could use homemade water-based paint (LINK), salt, chalk, biodegradable glitter or anything else you can think of that will leave a trail.  Experiment and see if you can make the letters of your name without breaking your trail!

Numeracy

Size Sorting:

In the story of The Snail and the Whale, the snail is super small and the whale is super big!  Why not go on a scavenger hunt around your house and gather as many items as you can, some big and some small.  Can you sort the items into two piles?  A BIG pile and a small pile!   Maybe next you could try ordering some of your items from smallest to BIGGEST!

Here are some big and small activities and games on Twinkl Go.  To access these activities simply click on or copy and paste this link https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/sign-in and use the passcode: LW7685.

H&WB/PE and Movement

In the Twinkl Go! lesson area, there is an action and rhyme PowerPoint.  See if you can copy the actions and chant along to the rhyme together!

Here is a link to a Big and Small song on YouTube.  Can you make up some actions to go along with the song?

We have started to take part in short and simple yoga sessions in class.  Here is a link to a yoga session based on the story of The Whale and the Snail.  Why not have a look and join in whenever you can?  😊

Art & Design

Can you create a spiral shell?  You could use a paper plate as your shell and any craft materials you might have (if you don’t have any craft items then why not use leaves or stones from outside)to make a spiral pattern.  Start in the middle of the plate and work your way round and round to the edge of the plate!  Make the head of the snail from coloured paper, newspaper or even an old bit of material folded into shape!

Remember – these activities are just ideas and are not mandatory!  Be kind to yourself and only do what you can. If you would like to send us some photos of yourself completing some of your home learning tasks, send them to willowbank.school@eastayrshire.org.uk

Take care!

Snowdrops Home Learning Activities Week 4

Good Morning!

Happy Monday to you all. We hope you are all safe and well and managing to keep positive during these difficult times.
We hope we will all be back learning together soon.

What’s the weather like today?

The following song is one we use in class. Play it and talk about the weather. Hopefully it’ll not be raining!
https://youtu.be/rD6FRDd9Hew

Literacy

This week we develop our writing skills again. Let’s try sensory writing using our finger or a stick: use shaving foam spread out on a tray or table-top or use a light dusting of flour, sand or salt.

To mark LGBT month, here is a lovely story told by Singing Hands about differences:

https://youtu.be/SdXc0iqUFfU

Feel free to do any of the other reading or writing activities from previous weeks too.

Numeracy

Counting activities:
Use a pointing finger to touch each item, for example, count how many shoes you have. Can you sort them into groups? How many have laces? How many have Velcro fastening? How many have buckles? etc.

Play the following game on Top Marks.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/teddy-numbers

Select ‘Numbers to …’ rather than ‘words…’ Hand over hand help can work here too.

Health & Wellbeing

This week you can try making your own cakes and pizzas using the My World Kitchen online game on CBeebies.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/games/my-world-kitchen-game

After you have made those delicious treats online, you can then have a go at washing dishes at home to help out (which is an excuse to splash about in some soapy water). You could even wipe down the kitchen surfaces or sweep the floor. I’m sure there’ll be some Snowdrops who’ll love this activity!

Outdoor Learning

When it’s cold and frosty outside, the wee birds need us to help them find food so this week we will make our own bird food to give the birds in our gardens.

Follow these links and you will find a variety of bird food ideas depending on what you have in the house:
