IDL: Science – Antarctic Animals

Successful Learners   Effective Contributors

The Moonbeams have been learning about animals in Antarctica. We learned how Penguins, Seals and Whales keep warm in freezing cold conditions. These animals have layers of blubber. The pupils tested this for themselves. They put a finger in ice water and felt that it was very cold and then they put a finger covered in ‘blubber’ in the ice water. Some children said it felt “nice” and others were able to keep their fingers in the icy water for longer.

IDL Science

As part of our “A Bug’s Life” theme we have been exploring the garden and noticing the different plants.  We all were confident individuals during our outdoor learning time and were all able to actively participate in planting seeds. We had fun using a trowel to put soil into our pots and then adding the seeds. We  then left them in our outdoor area. Some of the pupils have been watering them and we have been watching them grow over the last couple of week.

FAOL: Goal 11- Sustainable cities and communities

We have explored how me can make responsible choices each day to protect our environment and local community.

We were responsible citizens and have been recycling out rubbish within the class, as well as our food waste at lunch time.

We have investigated what living things need to grow, and the role plants and trees have in helping the environment.  We then participated actively when planting different plants, and demonstrated our understanding by watering them daily and ensuring they has sunlight.

IDL: Symmetry Butterflies

We had fun exploring the colourful patterns of different butterflies and participated actively to match images of butterflies with the same patterns.

We were successful learners and focused our attention to create our own symmetrical butterfly art. We painted a colourful pattern on one side of a butterfly, then folder the paper to copy it to the other side.

We loved opening the pictures to see the finished result!
