ECC Nursery Rhyme Data…

We have been focusing on developing the children’s awareness of Nursery Rhymes by focusing on one rhyme each week within the ECC and sharing this on the blog and communication board for you to do at home with your child. Nursery Rhymes aid your child’s phonological awareness and assists with reading and spelling at a later stage. Please have a look below at the statistics gathered from before we focused on the rhyme in partnership with yourselves at home and after regularly singing the rhyme in the ECC and at home. The data shows a 23% increase in the amount of children who were able to recite Hickory, Dickory Dock in the morning session and a 13% increase in the PM session. Please continue to focus on our rhyme of the week at home as this has a positive impact on your child’s development. Our Rhyme of the week is Twinkle, Twinkle little star.

Scottish Week 2018

To celebrate Robert Burns and all things Scottish, our whole school is taking part in a variety of Scottish related activities this week such as baking, learning about famous Scots, singing Scottish songs and much more.

All classes have been working hard learning a poem and last week three finalists from each class were chosen and then a class finalist. Well done to everyone, the quality of the recitations was excellent!

Our whole school Scottish Assembly will take place on Friday 9th February, 9.45  – 10.40am. Parents of the thirteen class finalists are invited.

Pupils are welcome to wear something tartan along with their uniform.

A Digital Sundial!

Mr Stewart helped us to understand more about time and light. He printed a 3D sundial in base 4 and let us test it out in the playground. The results were amazing. The sundial projected a digital time onto the ground!!

Visit

Today we had a visit from the NSPCC. We learned lots about children’s rights. We focused on 3 main ones:

Children have the right to speak out and be heard.
Children have the right to be safe.
Children have the right to get help when they need it.

Ask your child at home what they learned.
