Primary 6 visit Ayrshire College

On Monday 27th Primary 6 visited Ayrshire College’s aeronautical department to learn some more information about flight.

Some pupils managed to try to take off/fly/land a plane in the flight simulator.  A wind tunnel let us understand thrust and drag.  We learned about different parts of the plane and the composite materials that make up the outside of the aircraft.  We even got to sit in a Bulldog!

Primary 6

Primary 6 can you  bring a piece of cardboard in to help with our Christmas crafts please.

Thank you.

P7 at Kilmarnock District History Group

A huge well done and thank you to the 17 Primary 7 children who gave a further performance of their WWII play in Ayrshire College at the Kilmarnock District History Group last night!

They quickly learned lines of classmates who could not manage along and arrived ready to deliver the extras.

Mrs Lawson, Mrs Mackie and the children all received such a warm welcome and it was lovely to then listen to the stories from the audience, sharing their memories with the P7s.

An enjoyable and rewarding visit!

Communication Board Update….

Our NHS communication poster has changed and an updated poster has now been attached to our communication board for your reference.  Our top tip is still about asking questions and following this with adding two comments. The yellow button envelope contains leaflets regarding age appropriate speech sounds. I noticed these leaflets were running very low this week so they have been replenished please feel free to take one and should you have any concerns about your child’s speech please speak to their keyworker or our communication champion.

Here are some tips to improve your child’s language:

  • Talk to your child face to face as often as possible
  • Read to your child daily
  • Listen to music together
  • Tell stories real or made up to encourage their imagination
  • Follow your child’s lead within play
  • Never criticize your child’s speech or articulation
  • Use computers and tv sparingly.

Nursery Rhyme of the week……

This weeks Nursery Rhyme follows the tune of “5 little monkeys jumping on the bed.” As your child becomes familiar  with the rhyme encourage your child to say parts of the rhyme themselves.  Nursery Rhymes are portable and can be sung anywhere in the car, in the bath, before bed, while making dinner, within story time or within any routine of your day. Nursery Rhymes assist with the development of social skills as well as an opportunity to hear sounds and syllables within words. Implementing Makaton with your child has many benefits including supporting your child’s emotional wellbeing, extending language and communication skills  and it also promotes  fine motor skills as your child uses their hands to sign this aids pre- writing skills.

P3B St. Andrews Day Assembly

On Monday afternoon, the second circle assembly group and P3B parents and grandparents were superbly entertained by Mrs. Baird and Mr. Smith’s boys and girls. We learned lots about St. Andrew, the patron Saint of Scotland. P3B narrators told the story of St. Andrew, there was a Scottish poem and everyone sang Scottish songs to help us celebrate St. Andrew’s Day which happens this Thursday on the 30th November. Our guests even had the chance to enjoy homemade shortbread in Base 2!! Thank you so much, P3B,. You are stars!!

JRSO – Parking

Image result for jrso logo

This morning we received a phone call from an upset resident in Woodside Avenue, who was unable to get out of their driveway due to inconsiderate parking.

Please think carefully about where you are parking the car when you are using the streets surrounding the school.

Also, the garden side of the car park is only for drop off, NOT PARKING!

The roundabout is not a drop off point or for parking on!

Check your child is not leaving the car onto the road.

For those of you who walk or use the correct car park, thank you for co-operating and helping to make the car park a safer place for our children.

Calling all gardeners

Gargieston PS and ECC is currently creating a pizza garden to grow vegetables and herbs with the pupils. This is part of the Food For Thought programme which encourages sustainability, buying local and growing your own vegetables.  To get the project up and running before the winter sets in, the school is looking for any volunteers who may have some time to spare to help with tidying up some flower beds and moving composting material. It does not matter if you have any garden knowledge – on-site training will be given! Please contact the school for further details and we look forward to seeing you in the garden.
