Grammar School circa 1910

This picture of Grammar School (the forerunner to Gargieston) was taken around 1910. The lady holding the tea pot is Mrs Jane Miller and this picture was given to the us by her Great-Granddaughter Mrs Cush. Mrs Cush came to the Community Night of the Base 4 WW1 play and brought this picture with her.
Mrs Miller was the janitor at Grammar School. The 1901 and 1911 census information shows her listed as a ‘school caretaker’. She was widowed after less than two years of marriage while she was expecting their second child, and went out to work to support her young family.
The other four ladies are teachers at the school and the man is William Lorimer, Jane Miller’s father.
Thank you so much to Mrs Cush for sharing this precious family photo with us.
