Gargieston Parent Council Sport for All Project

Gargieston Parent Council Sport for All Project

Background to the project

When the new school was being built in 2010-12 a Multi Usage Games Area (MUGA) was proposed to be developed in a disused area to the rear of the school as part of the project. Unfortunately the funding for the project was withdrawn by East Ayrshire Council (EAC), however they made £35,000 available to Gargieston Parent Council to support the group to apply for other external funding for the purposes of providing recreational play facilities.

On 10th October 2014 Gargieston Parent Council were notified that they had been successful in their bid to Sportscotland’s Active Places fund and were awarded £55,000 to develop a MUGA and trim trail for the school and community, and provide playground equipment for the schools use. The Sportscotland award match funded EAC’s contribution and the school’s fundraising monies.

A phased opening of this facility will be in place for an initial 3 months after development and will include locking the facility at agreed times.

8. What security measures will be put in place?

Security measures will include CCTV to cover the area of the MUGA, and the phased opening as outlined in Q7. EAC Vibrant Communities will also provide staffing to support activities within the MUGA as part of their Street Sport programme.
