East Ayrshire Food Bank Appeal

Message from East Ayrshire Food Bank

I’d like to start by thanking everyone for their generous support over the last few years. The demand for our services has risen considerably, especially over the last few weeks and we anticipate this rise to continue.

We are once again appealing to our local community to help support us by donating food to allow us to continue providing food for the most vulnerable within our community.

Please donate any non – perishable food items to supplement food parcels.

Donations can be handed in to 11-15 Old Irvine Road, Kilmarnock. KA1 2BD

Thank you .

Boys’ Brigade Success!

Congratulations to Neil Parker of Primary 5A. This weekend Neil received the ‘Best Second Year Boy’ award at the Junior Section of his Boys’ Brigade company.

Here is Neil after he was presented with his award. Well done, Neil. We are all very proud of you!

Cricket

We will soon be welcoming back Mark Colman from Kilmarnock Cricket Club as he delivers lessons to the P5 and 6 classes. However please see below details of how children of all ages can become involved with the club. For more details you will see a contact number at the bottom of this information leaflet.

Assemblies

Today we had the long-awaited return of our P.1-3 and P.4-7 assemblies in the hall. It was so lovely to see the sea of blue sweatshirts back together again!

It was great to start our new term with more news of fundraising being done by one of our pupils. Jack Johnstone in P4C raised an astonishing £530 by completing the “100milesinMarch” challenge – he even managed to do 151.2 miles! Jack chose to raise funds for the World Wildlife Fund because of his love of animals.

Jack, we are so proud of you and we have no doubt the money you raised will be gratefully received by this very worthwhile charity.

Can you help ?

We have been asked to put out a request for help again – this time to make slings for Ukraine.

Rough measurements – 106/106/154cm or 94/94/134cm.
Doesn’t matter the colour and the edges should be finished with zig zag or overlock stitch .

Must be cotton fabric .

These can be handed into the school office.

Within the next week / two weeks if possible .
Thanks in advance ❤️

We are so proud to say that we have raised an incredible £622!  This money will go towards helping lots of children that have a mental health issue or problem.

Thank you again for doing your part to raise awareness for Children’s Mental Health Week. If you didn’t get a chance, you can click here to donate .

Harry, Harvey and Calvin

A Chilly Start To 2022!

We are always so proud of our pupils who take part in fundraising events in the community – and this is certainly the case with Ellie McLatchie. Previously, Ellie has donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, now she has braved the cold seas along the Ayrshire coast in the Boxing Day Dip to raise money for Ayrshire Cancer Support. She raised a fantastic £350 for the charity. Well done, Ellie!

Writing Competition

To promote writing and celebrate the great work being created in Gargieston and across the SWEIC (South West Education Improvement Collaborative), entries are invited for a writing competition. Alongside prizes for the winners and runners-up in each category, pupils will have their writing shared on the SWEIC blog.

The theme of the competition is ‘The Gift’ and work submitted can be linked to this idea in any way. You may wish to link it to Christmas, but you might also want to think about the idea of gifts and giving in a different way.

Early Years’ Entries Pupils can share their mark-making or dictated ideas. Entries should be within one A4 page and may be pictures, photographs or in any other appropriate form.

P1-3 Entries Entries can take any form that they choose. The entry must be no longer than one side of A4 and can be illustrated. Typed or handwritten entries will be accepted.

P4-7 Entries Entries from this age group should be broadly creative: poetry, story or drama. They may be up to two sides of A4 and can include illustrations.

We know how many talented writers we have in school and would love to see as many entries from Gargieston as possible.

Please email or hand entries to Mrs Lawson no later than Monday 13th December
