Open Day May 20th

Remember Saturday May 20th is fast approaching… Between 10am and 3pm on this date it will be our Open Day. To mark the final months in our current building we are hosting this event to mark and recognise the history of Dalbeattie Primary school on its current site.

On Saturday  20th May,  there will be one final doors open day which will take place in both the upper and lower school buildings. Visitors are welcome to visit Dalbeattie Primary School to reminisce, share memories and view the school as it is today. Doors will open at 10a.m and close at 3p.m . At 12 mid-day, we would like as many people as possible who have been pupils and staff at Dalbeattie Primary School (or indeed, the High School pre 1958) to join us in front of the bell tower for a large group photograph to mark the event.  It may even get us into the Record books for the most former pupils and staff in a picture SO KEEP THE DATE! The photo will be taken from the air by a licensed drone. Please note, however, all friends, members of the school and wider local community are welcome to visit the buildings at any point during the day. We are very happy to announce that Dalbeattie Lions Club is providing eco friendly balloons to be released on the day too, as part of the mid-day photo. These balloons which have been sourced from a company which avoids any issues for the environment, have a competition tag attached for the balloon which travels the furthest

Rotary Quiz

Well done to our P7 Rotary Quiz team who came third in the regional qualifying event held today at Troqueer Primary School. The team were the winners of our cluster heat and went on to represent the school in the regional event. It was a very close run contest and the team were just piped by half a mark. The team were fantastic representatives for the school and all those involved in supporting them are very proud of their achievements.

P7 Spanish Day

On Monday 20th March Primary 7 attended a Spanish Day at Dalbeattie High School as part of their transition programme. The day gave the children the opportunity to be introduced to Spanish and take part in lots of fun activities.

These activities included Zumba, Tapas making, learning the language of the fan and a treasure hunt around the school learning the names of the subjects in Spanish.

The children had an absolutely fantastic day and were really motivated and engaged in all of the activities.

A huge thank you to all of the High School staff involved in planning and organising this event. It was a superb day!

Code Club Celebration!

Congratulations to all our Code Clubbers this week! To celebrate learning, we invited family members to our final Code Club session this term. Code Clubbers talked confidently about the animations and games they had created using their coding skills. Certificates were awarded to all, including  Mr Muirhead who has been a great help at our Code Club. Miss Purdie, Development Officer, joined us to make a short movie about our Code Club. She is hoping to use this to show other schools how much fun Code Club is and hopefully encourage them to start one too!  I would like to thank all parents who joined us today in this celebration. It has been a delight to run Code Club this year and work with such an enthusiastic and motivated group of pupils. Well done everyone!   Mrs Dyson

P5D Artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy

We have been learning about the artist Andy Goldsworthy and have been amazed at some of the sculptures he created. We especially loved his artwork using ice, snow and leaves. We were inspired by his work and were keen to create our own nature artwork. Mrs Dyson was very pleased with how well we worked with others to create our art and how confidently we spoke about our creations.
