Primary 1 Update 14.11.18

Hello Everyone,

This week in Maths we have been learning to recognise all coins up to £2. We have been talking about the colour and shape of the coins as well as any visible numbers on them. It would be great if you can support your child with this by letting them help to pay for shopping and discussing the coins.

On Thursday we are looking forward to hearing the children’s class talks about their favourite toy. In school we have discussed audience awareness e.g. eye contact and talking in a loud clear voice – please can you work on this at home also? The children will also use their knoweldge of sounds and words to write about their favourite toy this week.

We are well underway with our preparation for the Nativity – please can you continue to practise words with your child if they have been given them? Also the music for the songs is on the blog to allow the children to practise at home.

We have a busy week next week including a visiting Judo taster session and a visit from Library Services who will talk to the children about old toys and show them some examples.

In Health and Wellbeing this week, we had a visit from Mrs Macauley (who is currently on maternity leave from school) and her new baby. The children were very excited to meet her and learned all about what a new baby needs and how they are looked after.

The letters about school Christmas lunch have been issued and should be completed by Wednesday 21st November.

Primary 5 have been rehearsing hard for our school show the Pirates of the Currybean.  We have 1 week till our dress rehearsal and are looking forward to performing for the school.  Lots of people have already handed in their costumes which is great.  We would appreciate if all costumes could be handed in by Thursday 30th May.

In June we will be beginning a Health topic on relationships, sexual health and parenthood.  The children have been given letters today.  Should you want to discuss anything about the programme please contact the school.

This week we have been learning about medicines and the effects of smoking in health.

In maths we have been investigating weight and capacity.

We took part in a judo taster session this week which was great fun.

Primary 1 Update 9.5.18

Hello Everyone,

We hope you all enjoyed the lovely long sunny weekend!

Just a short but as always busy week this week!

In Writing the children have been learning about the features of fairytale stories and for the past 2 weeks we have taken time to create stories with a beginning, middle and end, come up with good and bad characters and created ‘happily ever after’ endings.

Here is some of their super work:

In addition to the normal class PE specialist time, over the next couple of weeks, the children will also have the opportunity to have a taster session of Judo.

In Science, we are continuing with our work on electricity. The children have been learning about appliances which use mains or batteries to provide electricity.

Thank you for your continuing support,

Primary 6 05.05.17

Hello everyone

We hope the children have had an enjoyable couple of days off school this week.

This week the children continued with the Living and Growing programme. They have been learning about the changes that happen in our bodies, particularly girls’ bodies, as we grow older. If you have any queries about this programme please do not hesitate to ask.

In PE we have been participating in Athletics based activities. All of the activities this week involved sprinting. The children also researched one of 3 Olympians/Paralympians: Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis-Hill or Ellie Simmonds. The children then used this research to write detailed biographies about their chosen athlete. We discussed the skills and qualities that athletes need to develop in order to become successful. We linked these to our work on Athletics in PE. Next week we will move onto jumping activities.

Next week, the children will take part in a Judo taster session on Tuesday morning. They will also have Futsal as normal on Tuesday and Outdoor PE on Wednesday. Please remind your child to bring full PE kit (including trainers) to school on these days.

On Tuesday 16th May the children will be making their first visit to Deans Community High School as part of their transition to High School next year. We will be at the high school from 9:15-12:20 and we will be back at Carmondean in time for lunch as normal. Children can take a snack with them up to the high school too.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Miss Clark, Mrs Wylie & Mrs Kelly
