STEMSpace Project

This year, P4-5-6 are taking part in the STEMSpace Project.  Its main aim is to improve spacial reasoning skills using a fun, hands-on approach, encouraging pupils to Visualise, Predict and Check as part of the learning process.

Here are a few photos from Week 1 of the project. Please look out for more over the coming weeks.  We are very excited to see where this project takes our learning!

Lesson 1 – Shapes in Shapes

The class explored making shapes using the pattern blocks and created bigger shapes, with smaller shapes within them.

Lesson 2 saw us exploring tessellated patterns in more detail and exploring what ‘tessellation’ means and why some shapes tessellate and others don’t.  Then we used our shapes to trace out our tessellated patterns on paper.  This was a great motor skill activity too!  We had to carefully line up the edges to make sure there were no gaps.  It took time, but the results were great! 👍🏻

We are looking forward to future lessons!
