Our favourite books
For World Book Day we made a slide of our favourite books and said why we like them.
We hope you enjoy hearing about them!
Balancing in gymnastics
Last week p5 worked creatively to create balancing shapes, on their own or with a partner.
Big drum adventure week 6
We continued to play as a band ‘Out of this World’. We played bass drums, jembes and Brazilian steel drums. We discovered the instrument ‘cuica’ in the museum of magical mimstruments.
The drummer of the week was Jackson, well done!
Volcano art
We looked at techniques used by artist Nick Rowland, namely chalk and oil pastels on black paper with layers of splashed or drizzled paint on top, and thought that this would make great volcano pictures.
We started by drawing labelled diagrams of a cross section of a volcano then used these ideas to make our pictures.
Can you spot any ash clouds? We also know that these are called ‘pyroclastic clouds’.
We enjoyed the sunny afternoon to flick the paint outside.
P5a spelling patterns j, g, ge and dge
Review of the week
This week we continued to learn about money in maths, and how to give change using the shopkeeper’s method. A few shops are being set up in our spare time!
Our guided reading is non fiction texts, and we are learning to identify the purpose, structure and features of information reports in writing.
We had a whole school live assembly with Mrs Strathearn and are looking forward to the follow-up task; sharing who we are with her.
World Book Day on Thursday was great fun, don’t forget to spend your £1 token.
We painted some Spring flowers in art.
World book day
Today we enjoyed activities around reading, book characters and favourite books.
We took part in a book character hunt organised by Mrs Smith. Hidden in the corridors were pictures of characters from popular children’s books. We searched high and low and had fun naming them and remembering when we read those books.
We learned about the adults’ favourite children’s books. It was good to see our old teachers and remember the books they read to us.
Out of this world
Our drumming band has a name!
’Out of this world’ was suggested by James and voted for by the class. Everyone gave a suggestion and voted, so now we are a real band!
Today we made our own drumsticks using bamboo. We use them to play games such as ‘Don’t drum this one back’ and ‘Stick ‘em up’.
We also sang a song ‘The Calabash Song’.
Alistair was drummer of the week, well done!
Going shopping
We are learning about money; knowing notes and coins, counting amounts and giving change.
Today each table invented a shop and had fun pricing goods, buying and selling and giving change.
We had two bookshops, a sweetie shop and a second hand tech shop!
