Buzzy Bees

We made Funnybones themed pictures to go under the Beebot mats then we had to try to avoid bumping into them  when we programmed the Beebots. This was helping us to develop our mapping skills. P2B added pictures to the Beebot covers then shared their work with P2A. Then we all worked together and enjoyed trying to avoid bumping into objects as we travelled around the maps.

Sew easy

Primary 2 have been learning how to sew.

We have made these amazing collages with Mrs Finnie and we had to learn how to be very patient when the thread kept coming out of the needle.

We transferred the skills we had learned in this Art lesson when we made our Christmas crafts for the Fair.  We made pretty Christmas tree decorations and we sewed all around the edges of the trees.

Mapping

This week we have been busy drawing maps in Primary 2.

We have drawn a map of our journey to and from school ( real ).

We also drew an imaginary map about Mr.  Grinling’s home. We added a key of symbols to this map to make it easier for other people to read.

We have been on an imaginary aeroplane trip around Peebles using Drone footage. This was really exciting. We spotted the bridges, the River Tweed and our school.

Painted light houses

P2A painted red and white light houses and P2B painted white light houses on blue backgrounds. We sponged on the crashing waves and flashing lights. We have an amazing display in our corridor. Thank you to Mrs Ryalls for displaying our work so artistically.

Welcome to Primary 2

Primary 2 have been working very hard this week.

We have had great fun playing together in the playground and exploring the new paddle steamer boat and the colourful  train – Hoot! Toot !

We have also enjoyed learning about the lighthouse keeper Mr. Grinling and his wife. We are looking forward to next week so that we can explore the story more……….. ( ” The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch” by Ronda and David Armitage)

We have been learning to follow one of the  school rules this week –

” I listen carefully and follow instructions.” Primary 2 are very good at following this rule already.

Measuring things big and small

This week we have been learning about how to measure  different objects. We had to think about what we could use to work out how big an object was and how to compare its size to other objects.

When we were measuring something big like a castle we used our feet, hands or whole bodies.

When we measured smaller objects in the classroom we used cubes.

We discovered that to measure accurately we had to make sure there were no spaces and to compare the size of two objects we had to measure them both with the same measurement tool.

Castle activities

We have been busy learning all about castles. We have had fun making and painting castles. Some of us drew a plan of our castles then worked as a group to build them.

We used polystyrene to press print castles and we used our paint brushes carefully to paint castles with lots of detail.
