We started our new IDL topic looking at water in its different forms. We had lots of fun exploring the snow in the playground.

When we were inside we made igloos with the blocks.

We came up with lots of ideas of how to explore water, snow and ice as a class. We would like to find out about snowy places, have snowmen in the classroom, find out how ice melts, find out about snowflakes, play with ice, build our own igloo.

We have had a busy first week of 2018. Look at all we have learned to do. We have worked hard on our handwriting and have found different ways of practising how to form our letters correctly. We have explored how to use the Waxy Doodles that Santa brought us for Christmas. These will really help our fine motor skills.

We have been learning how to tell the time by exploring the clock face and looking at digital clocks. We made clocks and can use them to show 1 o’clock, 3 o’clock etc. We also explored how long a minute was by doing different actions and timing them. It was very hard to do star jumps for a whole minute!

Today in class we explored and created symmetrical patterns. We learned that for something to be symmetrical it had to be the same on both sides if you put a line down the middle.

To finish off our Toy topic we made toys out of junk. We had to do a lot of problem solving to work out how to make a toy from the junk that we had, then we had to use our cutting skills to make the shapes that we needed.

After we had finished making our toys we had to tell our class what we had made and how it moved.

Today we went on a shape walk to see what shapes there were in the playground. We found shapes everywhere! We were able to tell our teacher what the shapes were called and what was special about them.

Back in class we sorted toys into squares, triangles and circles.

One of our new sounds this week is ‘g’. We listened to the story of Mr Greedy, came up with some great ‘g’ words and then drew our own pictures and cut them out. Cutting is quite tricky but we tried really hard.

This term we have been learning about how toys move and the forces we need to use to make them go. In our play we have been making models and explaining to the teacher how they move.

“I pull this bit and it launches off. Then they can both fly. It’s super hero name is Racing Man.”

“It curls up when it is not an emergency. It can even move when it is lying down. I need to push it and pull it.”

“It rolls up. I am using my hands to push it and roll it into a circle. “

During our morning activities this week we have been using the smart board to practice our counting……..

thinking of things that we can draw that start with our new sounds…….

and constructing models.

This week we have been using dominoes to help us practice our 1 to 1 counting and recognising numbers.

This week we have been exploring paint during our activity time. We have painted pictures of our choice. Someone even found out that if you mix red and yellow paint together your get orange.

We have also been painting bears as a class.
