A fun learning week in P2 !

We have been working very hard this week. Our new book for

Rhyme and Analogy is,” Scat, cat!” and our focus for rhyming patterns are :  at  in   ed  and og. We have been trying very hard to read along with the story, find the rhyming words on the page then think of others we know.

Can you find these rhyming patterns in books you read or signs you see at home?

We have been thinking about being good friends for HWB and also how we can be kind and caring towards others. We made friendship bracelets. Our first attempt with wool was a little tricky so, we tried an easier version with paper the next day. We were pleased with both designs.

For our senses work this week we explored smelling and it was fun smelling the different smells in the jars. Some of our guesses were quite close but, the onion salt had us puzzled – we thought it was crisps. That one had a strong smell and made our noses twitch!

In our play we have been having a great time exploring sight and making funny glasses. We have enjoyed being very creative in our designs. Maybe we have some opticians in the making!

We were so excited to discover what was in the box Mrs Little had dropped off. It was a box of dragons and dinosaurs and we had so much fun playing with them. Maybe next week we will get very creative with them in our play.

For our writing this week we spent a lot of time exploring describing words, looking very closely at the character of Tomas in our class novel and then drawing what we thought he looked like. We found the coloured picture on the cover gave us the most clues about what Tomas looks like.

We have been measuring with cubes today and we have started to have a guess   (  estimate)  measurements. Some of us have found it hard to understand that our guess can be quite different from the actual measurement.

Can you find anything at home that you think measures 15 cubes?

Thank you to everyone who has brought in a shoe box. A big thank you to Miss Muir who has been collecting boxes for all 3 classes!

Next week we might find out what we are going to do with the shoe boxes!

What did we learn this week?

Another busy week for P2/3.

We made paper chain dragons and it feels like we are in China in our classroom!

We observed, touched and smelled real dragon fruit. Then we did observational drawings and colour studies of the dragon fruits. We were amazed by them. They looked like they were from Outer Space. inside the runny juice looked like beetroot juice!

The fun part was tasting the dragon fruit and getting it all over our faces. It looked really funny when we looked at each other. We looked like clowns!

We also made a graph of our eye colours.

The school garden

Hello Primary 2!

We were very pleased over the summer to see all of the seeds growing that we sowed in Primary 1.

Earlier this week we harvested the courgettes and passed them to Mrs Clyde in the kitchen. Mrs Clyde and her team cooked them for us today and we ate them with the chicken tikka at lunchtime. They were delicious!

P2 – A busy week

P2 have worked really hard this week and explored a lot. Our loose parts have been particulaly popular this week and used with great creativity.

We began our novel study on the book ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’ by Andy Shepherd. We discussed the pros and cons of having a pet dragon and had a vote on whether we would like to have one as a pet or not. We also designed our own dragon.

Numeracy; We have explored addition with different strategies to support working out. Learners are using Daily 10 each day to support mental agility, which has been engaged with very positively.

Literacy; P2 have enjoyed playing games to revisit their phonics and participated in small reading sessions.

I was very proud of the learning and effort put in to this weeks focus of being encouraging and supporting our class mates. They came up with super phrases for us to use within the class and to use with ourselves to support perseverance.

Fun with loose partsBefore finishing up for today we recapped our week and realised we have all been extremely hard working with our learning.

Well done Primary 2.

Welcome to Primary 2!

The Kingsland Festival

We’re having a fantastic week in P1 and P2/1 celebrating the Kingsland Festival.

On Monday morning we put up bunting outside and made some bunting for classrooms. We then all worked together to create a giant piece of bubble artwork with bubbles floating from one page to another. In the afternoon we watched our films and had an ice lolly treat!

Yesterday we did a scavenger hunt in the morning. We had to see how many different things we could fit in our little boxes – we all did a great job helping each other!

In the afternoon we played some parachute games and had a picnic in the playground. We finished our wonderful afternoon with some bubbles.

It has been a lovely end to the term – thank you for all of your support and to the children for being such fantastic learners in a tricky year.

Hedgehog Rescue

We had an exciting start to the week this morning.

We were signing with Mrs Ryalls when a hedgehog ran past the classrooms! It then ran to the garden before running back. It was quite confused and zigzagging across the playground.

Mrs McGilp opened the door to check where it was and very nearly stood on it! It had stopped outside the P2/1 classroom door. Mrs Collins scooped it into a box and Mr Collins collected it and contacted the SSPCA.

We had regular updates and later found out the hedgehog is expecting hoglets. Mr Collins released it back to a safer spot in the school boundaries where it can hopefully have its hoglets in peace.

We did some fantastic drawing and recount writing about the hedgehog.

Data handling in P2/1

We’ve had another busy week. We had Mrs Thomson on Monday and we learned the ‘ng’ sound as in sing, ring and finger.

On Tuesday we had great fun at Sports Day. We then wrote about this and drew some lovely pictures on Wednesday.

Also this week we’ve started looking at data handling, learning what a pictogram is and creating our own class pictograms on our favourite flavours of ice creams and favourite pets. Today we looked at making tally marks to collect our data, finding out our favourite thing to do at school. Numeracy was most popular, followed by PE and lunch!

This week we’ve also started doing some junk modelling which we will continue next week. We’ve had robots, ramps for cars and tunnels for a guinea pig!

In our art this week we stayed on the ice cream theme and made a collage of our own favourite flavour, painting the background a summer shade then taking our time to cut out and glue lots of little squares. We finished off with a choice of sprinkles.

We were also very excited this morning to see our tigers on the wall outside our classroom. Thank you Mrs Ryalls for the great display!

Building A Graph

Primary 1 have been thinking about how to sort, organise and group objects either by colour, shape, size, type.

Today we were learning how to sort information and display it, in a way that is easy to read and understand, in a graph. We made a pictogram about our favourite ice-cream, chocolate was the most popular.
