Senior School Prelims

**REMINDER**

Senior School Prelims start on Friday 23 January until Friday 6 February 2015.

As part of the preparation for the external examination, all S4/S5/S6 pupils will experience a Prelim Exam in each of their National Qualifications for National 5/Higher/Advanced Higher courses and the timetable for this can be found at the right hand side of this page or by clicking here. Last Updated 20/01/15

Following the S4 Parents’ Information Evening, the majority of parents opted for a flexible model of Study Leave which is designed to include the following:

* All pupils should attend school each day unless they have an examination. Pupils will be given permission to be absent from school for the full day of any examination.
* On the days that pupils attend school they will follow their normal timetable and will have supervised study for their forthcoming Prelim Exams. Pupils are responsible for bringing relevant revision materials to school as required.
* S4/S5/S6 pupils who do not have any Prelim Exams to prepare for will be given consolidation material during class time.
* All learning and teaching will be suspended for S4/S5/S6 during the diet of Prelim Exams.
* All homework tasks will be suspended for S4/S5/S6 during the diet of Prelim Exams.

Should you wish any further information regarding S4/S5/S6 Prelim Examinations, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Devine at the school, 0141 582 0180.

Santa Dash – Friday 12th December 2014

Our Young Ambassadores for Sport in Lourdes Secondary are inviting all pupils to take part in a “Santa Dash” on Friday 12th December around the school.

The ‘Santa Dash’ is a fundraising event for the Brick-by-Brick appeal. Our aim is for every pupil to complete a short walk, jog or run and raise donations for our chosen charity.
There are many ways to take part:
• Buy a Santa hat for £2 to wear whilst taking part.
• Any pupil who raises £5 or more will be given the Santa hat for free.
• Pupils can wear their own Santa hat and make a donation on the day to participate.

All pupils are asked to wear a red top (no football tops). If your child wishes to get sponsored, please complete the attached form and return to the school with all sponsorship money on or before Friday 12th December.

The Pestaurant Challenge

The Home Economics department have secured an exciting experience for all of our S2 pupils to take part in on Thursday 27th November; we will be the first school in Scotland engaging in this experience. Rentokil Initial are bringing two workshops to Lourdes for pupils to take part in.

The 2 workshops available are:
• Pestaurant
• Hygiene Angels

There is a pin badge available for all who complete the Pestaurant challenge. The Rentokil Pestaurant is designed to educate pupils on edible insects and why this might be an important food source for the future. We look to demonstrate how ‘one person’s pest, could be another person’s protein’ in a fun and informative way. All of the insects that we have on offer for the students to try have been farmed specifically for human consumption.

They are imported already dry roasted / flavoured and packaged, from North America and Holland, as there are currently no insect farms in the UK producing insects for human consumption.
Pupils will be invited to look at the edible insects on our Pestaurant buffet and to try them if they wish.

Please Note: We do advise that people with a seafood allergy do not try the edible insects.

Anti-Bullying Week

The 17-20 November is National Anti-Bullying Week. Not just for Glasgow or Scotland but for the entire British Isles.

The Anti-Bullying week is not just for schools but for all work placements, organisations, clubs and groups.
Throughout your tutor classes this week you will look at and discuss the following:
• Everyone is entitled to respect.
• Bullying shows a complete lack of respect
• Bullying can take many forms: Cyber, Gesture, Physical, Verbal or Emotional, Extortion and Exclusion
• No-one should have to tolerate bullies
• Research shows that bullying can be a bigger problem in primaries that it is in secondary schools.
• Children who are being bullied should seek help from adults and, in particular, in schools, they should speak to their Pastoral Care teachers.
