S1

Practical Work

Pupils will develop woodworking and metalworking skills during construction of a Trinket Box and Coat Hook. Pupils will also have the opportunity to develop digital literacy by designing and manufacturing a back plate using a laser cutter. Structures Pupils will study existing structures, structural design, and will develop an understanding of Bridge design by experimentation and model building.

Graphic Communication

Pupils develop sketching, layout and presentation skills while developing an understanding of preliminary graphics. Pupils will use industry standard 3D modelling software to develop production graphics of real life one part objects. Pupils will use graphic publication software to create promotional graphic designs suitable for packaging.

S2

Practical Work

Pupils will develop woodworking and metal working skills during construction of a Chalk Board and Tea Light holder. These projects build upon skills from S1 and allow pupils to demonstrate more independence within the workshop.

Graphic Communication

Pupils further develop sketching, layout, orthographics and presentation skills while developing an understanding of preliminary graphics. Pupils will further develop skills using industry standard 3D modelling software developing production graphics of real life multi part objects. Pupils develop further skills in graphic publication software to create promotional graphic designs suitable for magazines.

Following S2 pupils have the option to specialise in Graphic Technologies and/or Practical Technologies.

S3

Practical Technologies

Pupil can progress within a practical based course developing woodworking and metalworking skills within the workshop environment. During this course pupils will construct a Storage Box, Toilet Roll Holder, Plumb Line Tool and a Tool Box. These projects extend pupils practical skills and develop safe working practices in preparation for the senior phase.

This course leads onto National Practical Metalworking and National Practical Woodworking.

Graphic Technologies

Pupil can progress within a graphics based course developing preliminary, promotional and production graphic skills and knowledge within a classroom environment. During this course pupils will develop an understanding of and skills within Computer Aided Graphics, Graphic Design, Technical Graphics and Graphics in Society. These units extend pupils manual and computing skills, developing skills in preparation for the senior phase.

This course leads onto National Graphic Communication.
