This year’s S5 and S6 Parents’ Evening will take place from 3.30pm – 5.30pm on Tuesday 8 February 2022. This evening will use telephone appointments.

Senior School Awards Ceremony for S5/6
Come and celebrate success with our senior pupils on Thursday 10th December in the school Concert Hall at 7pm! The event is ticketed and we will notify parents and pupils of ticket allocations later this week.

UK Beaver Computational Thinking Challenge 2015

Well done to all our S2 BECS pupils and S3 to S6 Computing Science pupils who took part in the Beaver Challenge last week!

The Beaver Challenge is a competition aimed at raising awareness of Computer Science in a fun and rewarding wayBeaver Challenge. The competition involves solving problems using computational thinking skills.

Computational thinking involves using a set of problem-solving skills and techniques that software engineers use to write programs and apps. Examples of these techniques would include the ability to break down complex tasks into simpler components, algorithm design, pattern recognition, pattern generalisation and abstraction.

This year over 50,000 students in the UK and Europe took part in the competition – results should be available in approximately 10 days.

 

S5/S6 Leavers – Modern Apprenticeship

Barrhead Travel – Office Junior/Admin Assistant x2

Barrhead Travel is looking for two office juniors/admin assistants to work within their Admin Department and support staff with their day to day duties. The employer is looking for someone with good IT and admin skills as well as a good telephone manner. The successful candidate could also be put through a Modern Apprenticeship in Business Administration.

Interested candidates should be:

Have a positive attitude
Good work ethic and integrity
The ability to work well as part of a team
Computer literacy and good typing skills
A good level of English grammar
Accuracy and attention to detail

Careers Appointments

The Careers Adviser, Mrs Dunlop will be in school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Careers appointments will now be displayed on the UCAS notice board outside the Head Teacher’s office and on the notice board outside the Careers Library. Pupils should check these notice boards on Mondays for appointments. Please note Mrs Dunlop may have arranged an appointment for you even if you have not requested one so it is essential you consult these notice boards regularly.

Higher Media Project

Are you interested in acting? Or just having a bit of a laugh? Then why don’t you are come along and help the S6 with their Higher Media project. We are looking for enthusiastic, hard working students from S1 to S6 to feature in our Road Safety Campaign. This would involve being in our short advert which MAY end up being shown in a variety of places such as football stadiums or could be played on the radio! There will be a short meeting on Monday 26 during interval in Mr Blake’s classroom room G07.

S5/S6 Christmas Leavers – Modern Apprenticeship in Childcare

Any pupil in S5/S6 pupil interested in a career in Childcare who intends to leave at Christmas should contact his/her Pastoral Care teacher to find out more information about apprenticeships being offered by Private Nurseries. You must be aged 16-19yrs old and have achieved 3 Standard Grades at bands 1-3(one of which must be English) or equivalent grades at Intermediate level. You would be undertaking a Modern Apprenticeship in Childcare and work towards an SVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development.

Art Exhibitions- S5/6

For all S5/6 pupils studying either higher Art or Photography or those in S5/6 who have an interest in art-

Mr Sheridan will be taking a group to exhibitions after school every second week. This is a great way for you to see parts of the city and places you may never have seen before and enjoy the cultural side of one of the most important cities for contemporary art in Europe.
