Senior School Prelims

**REMINDER**

Senior School Prelims start on Friday 23 January until Friday 6 February 2015.

As part of the preparation for the external examination, all S4/S5/S6 pupils will experience a Prelim Exam in each of their National Qualifications for National 5/Higher/Advanced Higher courses and the timetable for this can be found at the right hand side of this page or by clicking here. Last Updated 20/01/15

Following the S4 Parents’ Information Evening, the majority of parents opted for a flexible model of Study Leave which is designed to include the following:

* All pupils should attend school each day unless they have an examination. Pupils will be given permission to be absent from school for the full day of any examination.
* On the days that pupils attend school they will follow their normal timetable and will have supervised study for their forthcoming Prelim Exams. Pupils are responsible for bringing relevant revision materials to school as required.
* S4/S5/S6 pupils who do not have any Prelim Exams to prepare for will be given consolidation material during class time.
* All learning and teaching will be suspended for S4/S5/S6 during the diet of Prelim Exams.
* All homework tasks will be suspended for S4/S5/S6 during the diet of Prelim Exams.

Should you wish any further information regarding S4/S5/S6 Prelim Examinations, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Devine at the school, 0141 582 0180.

The Pestaurant Challenge

The Home Economics department have secured an exciting experience for all of our S2 pupils to take part in on Thursday 27th November; we will be the first school in Scotland engaging in this experience. Rentokil Initial are bringing two workshops to Lourdes for pupils to take part in.

The 2 workshops available are:
• Pestaurant
• Hygiene Angels

There is a pin badge available for all who complete the Pestaurant challenge. The Rentokil Pestaurant is designed to educate pupils on edible insects and why this might be an important food source for the future. We look to demonstrate how ‘one person’s pest, could be another person’s protein’ in a fun and informative way. All of the insects that we have on offer for the students to try have been farmed specifically for human consumption.

They are imported already dry roasted / flavoured and packaged, from North America and Holland, as there are currently no insect farms in the UK producing insects for human consumption.
Pupils will be invited to look at the edible insects on our Pestaurant buffet and to try them if they wish.

Please Note: We do advise that people with a seafood allergy do not try the edible insects.

Senior Awards Ceremony

Our Senior Awards Ceremony last night was a wonderful occasion of celebration and recognition of the achievements of our young people. Parents and pupils filled the hall and there was a lovely atmosphere of excitement and delight at the success of sons, daughters, students. Once again our musical talent performed to the highest standard, from soul band classics to moving extracts from Les Miserable. Our pupils and former pupils received their awards with a real sense of satisfaction at the level of their accomplishments and humility at being so recognised by their school. Presentations from pupils on experiences such as volunteering in Lourdes with the St. Margaret Scotland Youth Group, participating in the Transplant Games and developing confidence through involvement with Career Academy were both moving and inspirational.

As keynote speaker Father John had the opportunity to once again provide inspiration to parents and staff, as well as to the senior students in Lourdes. In addition it was a fitting occasion for him to say a final farewell to the community he has served so well and has loved so much these last eight years. Our invited guests indicated that they had really enjoyed the ceremony and were very impressed by our young people.

The success of the event was in no small way due to the meticulous and thoughtful levels of preparation and presentation.

Thanks to the many Principal Teachers / Faculty Heads and staff who came along to participate in such a wonderful celebration of the successes of our young people. It is very much appreciated by parents and pupils to see staff joining in this celebration

I would like to thank all the staff who worked so hard throughout the year to support young people in their learning so that they were able to achieve such high levels of success.

Mrs Lennon

Young Enterprise Success!

Tonight our Young Enterprise teams were triumphant once again at the Glasgow Area Board Finals.

Momentum – who created a toothpaste dispensing toothbrush for children took the award for Most Innovative Product. Congratulations to Megan Green, Katiera Donnely, Paula Davies and Megan Drenan for an outstanding presentation.

Organeco – with their echo friendly and organic skin care range scooped the award for Best Company Report.

The big news of the night was that Organeco also took away a new prize from the Deutsche Bank – Best Overall Company. The team will now represent Glasgow at the Deutsche Bank young entrepreneurs finals in London on the 18th April. As managing director, Taylor Elliott presented on behalf of her company and was the only person to do a solo presentation. The judges thought her presentation and leadership was outstanding. Taylor and her team mates Kerry McCusker and Heather Lynch are now busy working on their presentation for London where they will complete against 4 other teams from across the UK.

I’m sure you will join me in wishing them every success in London.

A HUGE thank you to Ms L Jamieson link teacher for Organeco and Ms J Lowe link teacher for Momentum for your unrelenting support of our teams. Top job!
