Our Eco captain was hard at work in his post. He was a Responsible Citizen wheeling the recycling boxes round and ensuring that each item went into the correct bin.

The Daisies class were very responsible looking at the global goal ‘Zero Hunger’. We looked closely at some pictures (the hungry caterpillar, Oliver Twist, Bruce Bogtrotter) and discussed whether they looked hungry or full.
We also spoke about how we would feel if we had a full tummy and also how we would feel if we had a hungry tummy.
Finally, we spoke about food that we liked and disliked and sorted them into categories on a poster.
Global Goal 16
Peace, justice and strong institutions.
We voted for a class president and vice president to help with some helper jobs and be effective contributors in the class. We were able to make posters saying vote for and our name. We chose pictures for them and were confident individuals able to hold then up for all the class to see. We voted using a ballot paper with pictures of everyone on it. We then counted the votes to see who won.

The Planets class loved planting herbs in the sensory garden today. We planted garlic, chives, sage and oregano.
The Transition boys were Responsible Citizens this week when they researched and produced an information pamphlet about Climate change. The boys watched a new BBC programme about climate change and two different approaches to helping. They boys then selected small changes that we can make and made them into an information pamphlet.
Responsible Citizens
We planted nasturtium seeds in the garden, for Earth Day, and built a wigwam to support the climbing plants as they grow. We must remember to keep them well watered! We did recycling and energy saving activities plus made a global cupcake flower picture. We also found that reading a story using a torch is not easy so we had better not waste electricity. At science we did a water pollution experiment. What will grow best……..the seeds with water or the seeds with lemon (acid) water? We will see next week.
Yesterday was Earth Day. We are Effective Contributors and already in the Bluebells class recycle and use reusable cups at snack time. We used up scrap tissue paper that we ripped up to make some earth sun catchers for our windows. We were Confident individuals and were able to place the green and blue tissue paper inside the circle to make land and water on our earth. We also did some painting. We used blue and green to make it look like a world and drew around our hands and used scissors to cut them out. Once dry we stuck a heart in the middle and our hands to the side as if we were holding the earth.
We also sat in the dark and read a story with torches. It was great fun. It was a sensory story and they enjoyed feeling the different items in the pages.

The Planets class loved today’s 50 Things Outdoors activity. We took our socks and shoes off and experienced placing our bare feet on the earth and grass. We talked about how it felt and shared our likes and dislikes.
With the weather being so nice the Transition class managed to get straight back into their upcycling projects. The class are Responsible Citizens cutting down on waste items by re-purposing them. We are nearing the end of our Bottle Greenhouse build and making and collecting each item for the recycled pallet road project. The boys put in excellent effort.
