The afternoon children have been exploring their interest in dinosaurs. We have learned about some dinosaur behaviours and made different types of dinosaur pictures. We love stories about dinosaurs and have also made fossils out of clay.

Transport
The morning children have been very interested in transport recently so many of our activities have had a transport theme. We have painted different types of vehicle, compared old and new cars, explored floating and sinking and practised crossing the road, to name but a few things.
Stay and Play Sessions
Thank you so much to the parents and family members who attended our Stay and Play sessions last week. It was lovely to welcome so people and the children were so excited to share their learning with you.
The Festival of Colour
We have been learning about the Hindu spring festival of Holi, which is also known as the festival of colour. We loved the tradition of throwing coloured paints and water over each other, but it wasn’t practical to copy this exactly in nursery so we did similar things instead!
Spring!
We have been talking about which aspects of spring we are interested in and have chosen to learn more about spring festivals. We celebrated Pancake Day on Tuesday and learned more about what a recipe is. We wrote our own recipes for soup and made soup today for snack.
It is World book Day today too. We talked about our favourite stories and some of us made books of our own.
Nursery Banquet
We had great fun having our own banquet snack. We dressed up as royalty and listened to medieval music. The nursery staff were very impressed with our good table manners.
The Frog Prince
We have been reading stories which have castles in them. It was suggested by a few children that we should read The Frog Prince (aka The Princess and the Frog). This has given us the opportunity to do some froggy activities. We are hoping the frogs will soon be laying their eggs so we can get some tadpoles in the nursery.
Castles and Fairytales
Our friend Tumble Ted has been visiting castles so we have been learning about castle features and how people used to defend them.
After a lot of talk about dragons, we have moved on to looking at stories with castles in them. This week we have focused on Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella and we will be having a banquet tomorrow for snack.
Walk in the Woods
We had a beautiful, clear and frosty day for our walk to the woods on Thursday. We had fun playing hiding seek and really enjoyed climbing and exploring.
Tumble Ted
Miss Carson got a teddy for Christmas which she brought into nursery to show the children. They named him Tumble Ted because he has a bowtie like Mr Tumble. Everyone was very surprised when he reappeared in nursery dressed as a superhero and carrying a map, which he had used to find his way back here. This allowed us to do some mapwork and take on a superhero theme. The role play area is now a Superhero den and the boys and girls are enjoying dressing up and having adventures. They turned themselves into superheroes for a new wall display and are sharing their knowledge about famous characters with staff.
Tumble Ted continues to surprise us. Today we got an email from him with a selfie he’d taken as he packed for a holiday. He was looking for suggestions of places to visit and the children thought maybe Sandyhills, a caravan trip to Legoland or Australia might be fun destinations for him. He is going to keep in touch via email and
let us know where he ends up. If your child would like to email him from home then his address is tumbleted40@yahoo.com!
