Award Winners Friday 10th November 2017
The first Head Teacher Awards in our new campus were presented today in assembly. Well done to all achievers for your hard work and effort.
Dalbeattie Nursery Boat Naming Ceremony
The sun shone on a very special boat naming ceremony at the new Dalbeattie Learning Campus on November 9th. The children in Dalbeattie Primary’s Nursery were thrilled to see their new play item officially named ‘Everest Skye,’ a name they had picked themselves, based on a popular TV programme. Sir Malcolm Ross, Lord Lieutenant for the Stewartry performed the ceremony, watched on by excited children and invited guests who included Lady Ross, members of Solway Yacht Club and representatives from Grahams Design Team and D&G Schools For The Future together with the school’s management team.
In order to install a play feature designed by the landscape architect, Project Manager Andy Little was tasked with finding a boat. He made contact with Solway Yacht Club who gladly came to the rescue. The club has donated a laser dinghy which they have lovingly restored and painted with the boat’s name and yacht club emblem. Commodore of the club, Ian Purkis, also presented the school with a pennant from Solway Yacht Club and made a speech about how much the club wants to encourage more young sailors from Dalbeattie to get involved at the club at Kippford. Sir Malcolm and Lady Ross also presented the school with the Stewartry Flag so that the school can fly it from their flagpole once it is installed. The party of invited guests then had a tour of our wonderful new campus.
Harvest Donations
At our end of term assembly today we presented Margaret Copp and Reverend Wilson with our harvest donations for the Foodbank that Dalbeattie and Kirkgunzeon Church are involved in supporting. Thank you everyone for your kind donations.
Orienteering
Primary 2-7 have been learning to use maps and improve their co-operation and fitness around the school, park and forest, orienteering in PE this term. Some successful learners in P4-7 won medals for being the fastest in the competition, and others for being star improvers, or effective contributors, who help others to have more success. Many were bursting with pride for their excellent effort and progress getting faster, fitter and having lots of fun too. It’s been great to make the most of the different environments around our school. Huge thanks to our amazingly generous volunteers who helped us out!

Code Club
Our Code Clubbers continue to develop their skills of digital programming. Coding, collaborative working and an enjoyment of the sessions is evident. Mrs Dyson continues to be very proud of all our Code Clubbers. Well done everyone!
Folktober Concert
Pupils from Dalbeattie Primary School attended the family concert in Dalbeattie Town Hall on Saturday 7th of October. They enjoyed participating in the family entertainment but also performed as a small choir and sang songs they had been learning during assembly time at school. The song ‘ The Big Dabattie Dinosaur’ and ‘Dalbeattie Primary School’, were both written by Mr Henderson and fellow members of Dalbeattie Acoustic group. The song making reference to Dalbeattie Primary School is very pertinent at the moment as we move to our new learning campus and leave our current granite building that has such historic significance in Dalbeattie. Thank you for inviting Dalbeattie primary to be part of Folktober events.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Last week we held a coffee morning in nursery to raise money for Macmillan. Family and friends came to play and then we all had cake. We raised a fantastic total of £68.40. Thanks to everyone who came along. We look forward to inviting you in again when we have moved.
Operation Safety
Primary 7 pupils attended Operation Safety on Friday 29th of September in Dumfries. The children learned about Internet Safety, Fire Safety and First Aid.Thank you to all emergency services and organisations involved in delivering the workshops.
Sponsored Walk
On Friday 22nd of September all classes took part in our annual school sponsored walk – the final one from our current building. The sponsored walk was to raise funds to support classes with transport, trips or paying for visitors to come into school/classes. All funds raised will be shared between classes. On the day P4-7 had a brisk walk to the granite heart stone with only a slight drizzle of rain on the way back. P1-3 walked to the loch and back with great success and no rain. Thank you to all parents, family members and friends who were able to join us on the day.
