Today P1F really enjoyed zooming around the playground on their scooters with Katie from ibike and we just managed to dodge the rain!
Last week we shared our favourite books in class and then wrote about them on World Book Day.
Recently P1 have enjoyed reading the Katie Morag stories whilst learning about Scotland. We decided to compare Dalbeattie to the Island of Coll. First of all we went for a walk round our town taking lots of photographs ourselves which we then used to produce a poster of Coll and Dalbeattie. After this we had a great time creating our own Isle of Struay working together in groups. Mrs Fitzsimmons was very impressed how wonderfully we worked together, our creative use of construction materials and our original ideas. We enjoyed looking at each others islands and discussing our work.
We were also very lucky to be visited by some talented High School pupils at the end of our topic. Shannon played several tunes on the bagpipes for us and Kierra showed us how to do the Highland Fling…….which we then joined in!
P1 have been busy little elves making lots of Christmas craft items to sell to our relatives! We made cards, calendars, a placemat for our Christmas dinner, reindeer food and a Christmas wreath! We started the sale by singing a song from our Nativity ‘A King is Born’ and then parents were invited to read our Elf Application forms! We would like to say THANK YOU to all our parents and relatives for coming along to help us raise £108.65 which will go towards a school trip later in the year.
Last week Mrs Cameron came to tell us about her job and how to keep safe crossing busy roads. In particular she showed us how to cross at the lights on Craignair Road and we crossed over several times. Later in the week we had another visit from PC Blacklock who reminded us about road safety and especially about being seen at night. Click on photos to enlarge!
On the last day of term we invited our parents and relatives to come along and play some literacy games and have a go at some activities we do to help us learn our sounds. We began by singing some songs and then we all had a fun time playing! Thank you to everyone for coming and we hope you had as much fun as we did!
P1F have had a busy term settling in to school and have been working very hard! Here’s a snapshot of what we have been getting up to including painting, interviewing Mrs Widdowson our janitor, playing with our friends, enjoying a story with our P7 reading buddies, learning some yoga moves, a visit from PC Blacklock and many more!
Last week Madame Norel visited Dalbeattie Primary and spent two days visiting the classes. She taught various topics throughout the school including some information and stories about life in France. The children were most enthusiastic and P1F were particularly interested in the snail shells!! Thank you for coming!
On Friday afternoon last week a group of P7’s came down to P1 to help us plant various seeds as part of our ‘In the Garden’ topic work. We worked in groups and when we were finished we also had fun making plasticene flowers together. Last but by no means least the P7’s volunteered to read us some stories. Thank you P7 and come back soon!
