We were very proud, along with John Finnie MSP, to officially open the new ACHA houses that have been built in Connel. A few months ago we suggested some names for the new street and were so excited when one of the names, St Orans, was selected by ACHA. It was lovely that we were invited back for the official opening ceremony.

Congratulations to Oscar, Bronte and Nathan on their success in being appointed as News Reporters in Kirn Primary.
All three P6 children (as well as many other applicants from P6) completed their application forms, then attended an interview before receiving a letter to say they had been successful. All three were very happy to accept!
Kirn Primary’s P6 children had an amazing time at Ardentinny Outdoor Centre and in just under four days managed to rock-hop, safari on the seashore, abseil, waterfall climb, forest walk, orienteer, eat great food, disco and have the Best Time EVER! Everyone had a fantastic time and lots of happy memories to bring home.

On Wednesday 29th April Karen McChesney and pupils from Dunoon Grammar School visited the Early Learning and Childcare Centre at Kirn to share some musical experiences. the children had fun with vocal warm-ups, clapping, dancing and singing and then enjoyed listening to Karen’s guitar playing.

Primary 1 to 3 Pupils of Toward Primary have been working very hard to rebuild Fairyland in their classroom with help from the Friendly Dragon. Pupils were given a family learning challenge to plan, design and create their own model of their dream castle with help from members of their family.
P7 pupils from Dunoon Primary School recently visited Glasgow Scientific Services as part of their Science Interdisciplinary Study. The pupils had been learning about radiation and the Chernobyl disaster. They recently had Mr Tom Henry, retired Environmental Health Officer, visit their classroom to talk about the radiation monitoring and sampling that he carried out as part of his job. All the samples that Mr Henry took were analysed in Glasgow Scientific Services and so he accompanied the class on their trip.

Generation Science(an amazing science group)came to teach the interesting art of science!! First fuel hunters, the constructive pair of oil-mazing enginers as well as the robo-tastic Lego-mindstorms. The pupils had a range of tricky challenges having to use their brains and robots to complete them. The children were no doubt all loving the robot disco! Dunoon Primary School hosted their Annual Daffodil Tea on Tuesday 28th April. The Choir sang a selection of their favourite songs. The afternoon show was well attended by Senior Citizens from our local Community and the children presented a well rehearsed selection of songs e.g. Skyscraper Wean, Under the Sea and Colours of the Wind. The varied song choices and actions to the songs gave the delighted audience ‘the wow factor’.

P1-3 had a great time visiting Tesco in Oban as part of their Food and Farming topic. They began in the bakery and helped to make bread and see all the stages that bread goes through before it appears on the store shelves. Watching fresh pancakes be made and then eating them whilst still warm was a highlight of the visit! Another favourite activity was tasting and comparing cheeses made from cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk on the cheese counter.
The end of Term 3 saw Primary 4 pupils at Rhu Primary help co-ordinate the collection of Easter eggs for Glasgow City Mission. The pupils managed to collect a fantastic 121 eggs for the appeal! Thank you to everyone who supported this worthwhile cause.
Pupils at St Andrew’s Primary have been helping to pilot digital art projects using paint.net. They have been improving their creative technology skills to search, store, manilpulate images and tell stories. St George’s Day on Thursday inspired a dragon invasion across Bute for P4/5. This dragon was spotted by Erin, of Mrs Spencer’s P4/5 class, on the lawn at Mount Stuart another was seen by Emma attacking an ogre at the Winter Gardens!
Sky Academy Skills Studio
On Wednesday 22nd April 2015 Toward and Innellan Primary schools went to Sky Academy Skill Studio in Livingston to make a news report on Natural Disasters. We got to use green screens, professional cameras (worth £60,000) and wear costumes. There were four studios each working together to make a news report. There were eight roles in each studio – Producer, Director, Scriptwriter, Camera operator, Reporter, Eyewitness, Expert and Editor.

Calling all 9 year old children in Argyll!! Would you like to have a friend from another country? Lesley Goodwin,principal teacher at Minard Primary started writing to her friend Carla Perkins when she was 12 years old and this friendship has continued by snail mail, phone calls,texting and currently Facebook. On April 3rd 2015 Lesley travelled to Columbia, Kentucky, USA to finally meet up with her friend and her family.
Did you know broccoli comes from Italy? Or that carrots came from Afghanistan? Primary 1-4 pupils in the Mid Argyll area learned these and many other interesting facts about fruit and vegetables thanks to The BarrowBand. The BarrowBand’s goal is to ‘inspire a new generation of people (especially children) to love, understand and demand fruit and vegetables as part of their diet and lives.
Rosneath Primary took part in the above event with other Helensburgh & Lomond Primary Schools on Thursday 23rd April. What a glorious morning! Ideal weather, ideal terrain under foot, lots of enthusiastic Runners.

The annual P7 Rotary Quiz for South Kintyre Cluster schools took place last week, with Dalintober PS teams finishing first and second equal overall. The winning team will now go on to represent the area in the national finals in Glasgow in June.
Children at Kilcreggan Primary School have been working hard to respect each other. The Eco-committee presented a respectful assembly to encourage everyone to treat others as they like to be treated. They reminded us to say and do polite things and tell someone about our worries! They read ‘The Big Bag of Worries’, reminded everyone about the ‘Buddy Stop’ and encouraged everyone to try and earn a ‘Respectme’ badge.
Dunoon Primary Celebrate the International Year of Light The reallysmallscience group, from Strathclyde University, helped pupils at Dunoon Primary to celebrate the International Year of Light 2015.
Classes took part in ‘nanoglow’ fluorescent workshops to learn why light is so important and discover natural and everyday items that glow. Pupils then used invisible ink pens to write secret messages and produce their very own glowing artwork.

Bowmore Primary have done it again! By hard work and dedication, we have earned our fourth Green Flag as an eco-school! Not only do we maintain our eco way of life by litter-picking, saving energy, composting peelings and running a healthy tuck, we have made time to improve our school grounds. Our raised beds and rockery are now well established and used to their full potential.
