Our week in P2

This week we have been learning about 3D shapes and went on a 3D shape hunt around the school playground.

Niamh: ‘I learnt what a pyramid is.’

Jack: ‘ I found a stone in the shape of a cone.’

Kiernan: ‘ I found a cone on top of the pencil bin.’

Ask your child to spot 3D shapes when they are out and about this weekend.

For bonfire night we wrote a fireworks poem, designed our own fireworks and learned how to keep ourselves safe at a firework display.

Ayla: ‘We learnt to stay away from fires when wearing a baggy jumper’.

We used super wow words to describe fireworks such as: whizzing, brightly coloured, popping and exploding.

Well done to Ryan Brodie who won the class prize today!

Can you tell an adult some of the 3D shapes we looked at?

We started to practise our nativity and Miss Rodford and Mrs Lloyd have found it tricky to decide what parts to give out!!! We are such good actors!!

Brilliant Bonfire Night Poems

Exploding and twirling fireworks glowing through the star filled sky.
Flashing multi-coloured rockets shooting up to the glistening, magnificent and sparkling sky.
Thundering and flashing Catherine wheels exploding all over the place while I eat my spicy and chilli hot dog and some hot chocolate- yummy!
Shooting stars shining in the bright light and the sparklers are sparkling and sparks coming off them and magnificent and beautiful fireworks.
Bonfire night.

Dyslexia Awareness Week 2015

Dyslexia Awareness Week 2015

This week the children at Bankton are looking at how we support all our learners in the classroom.  We are looking at our displays and Helps Boxes to see how we can use these to help us when we get stuck.   Some of the older children are learning about what dyslexia is and are talking about how we all learn in different ways and how we all find different things difficult.

We are also learning some cool facts

Over 50% of the people who work at NASA are reported to have dyslexia.  This is because they are excellent problem solvers and work well with 3D images!  The sky holds no limits when you can venture into space!!!

The government GCQH employs more than 100 dyslexic staff to work on anti-terrorism projects as they are able to analyse data and crack codes in a way that others can’t.
