Successful Learners in P1b

We have been working very hard in literacy this week.  We have been working on our sounding out skills to read words and to draw pictures to show that we have read the words correctly.  Look at our fantastic work:

We have also been using the sentence boards and have been making sentences which Mrs Lloyd dictated to us.  We did so well with this that Mrs Lloyd even asked us to make our own sentences.  We had to remember our capital letter and full stop and had to check that our sentence made sense!  We were really good at it!

Our non-number maths work was different this week as we were working on making some arrow diagrams.  We picked this up really well and will be working more on reading arrow diagrams next week.

Road safety was a focus this week and we practised crossing the road safely during role play in the hall.  We know not to stand too close to the kerb and know to Stop, Look and Listen before crossing.  We remembered to walk across the road and not run and we discussed the importance of wearing brightly coloured clothes so that you can be seen clearly when crossing the road.  We used what we learned to design a brightly coloured reflective coat which would allow you to be seen clearly.  Lots of bright colourful designs were produced.  Well done P1b!

We made tartan kilts during golden time. It was very messy!!    Alex

We made growth mindset phrases and had to rap them in our groups.   Daryl

We have been practising hard for our St Andrews Day assembly. We look forward to seeing you on Monday….   Sophie

We went to the Lanthorn on Tuesday and did an assembly for 4 other schools.    Euan

The choir went to Lanthorn to sing for elderly people from Woodlands.    Katie

This week is anti bullying week. We are calling it Happiness week. If someone does something kind, we put it on the random act of kindness wall. We also made an anti bullying poster. Four of these will be chosen for our school foyer.   Beth.K

Join us at the Bankton Primary School Christmas Fair

The Parent Council have been working extremely hard to make the Christmas Fair on Saturday, 28th November a great success. The Great Hall will be the venue for our gift and craft stalls with activities for children to ‘design and make’. Santa will also make a special appearance in his Grotto and there will be home baking, teas and coffees in the Small Hall. If you have any home baking to hand in, please do so by lunch time on Friday. (Please also mark your containers clearly with your child’s name and class so that they can be returned!)

Christmas Enterprise

Many thanks to all parents and families who have already supported us through the raffle – you have the chance to win some amazing prizes when the raffle is drawn at 1.30pm.  I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

Primary 5, 5/6, 6, 7a and 7b are Winter Ready!

winter ready

In anticipation for any snowy days, the children at Second Level are well-prepared for any closures! All children have (or will be given in the very near future) their Glow log ons, a home learning activity grid and a selection of websites you may wish your child to complete at home. The activities vary in challenge and offer a range of different approaches to the curriculum.

Paper copies of log ons, the activity grid and websites can be found in your children’s homework diaries. Or you can click here!

Wonderful Writing in P1b

Last week we were describing autumn leaves in our writing work.  To help us with this we went out for a walk and had a look at some different types of leaves.  We worked together to think of lots of describing words to describe the leaves and came up with lots of good words like: long, short, tiny, smooth, soft, jaggy, pointy, red, brown, big, small, wet, curvy and many more!  We all worked really hard to try to sound out our words and tried to include our capital letter, full stop and finger spaces.  Here are a few photos of us looking at the leaves outside along with some examples of our writing.  Mrs Lloyd was really proud of our hard work.

This week in P2, we began making our Christmas enterprise products. We had a lot of fun working together in our learning teams. We each have a different elf job in our team.

In class we wrote a description of how to make a christmas mouse. We were learning to use the words ‘first, next, then and finally’ to carefully explain each step.

Niamh enjoyed learning to count to 10 in Mandarin and Ayla learnt the hand signals for Mandarin numbers.

Sachin enjoyed playing cat and mouse in P.E.

Sandee enjoyed making the scrabble craft for our enterprise project.

A lot of children in P2 have tried really hard to be kind friends in the playground this week. Keep up the good work!

Well done to the class dojo champion, Andrew Meechan!

We have been busy practising our St Andrews assembly for next week.    Daryl

Today we listened to the story of The Dot in golden time and had to create something beautiful from a dot just like Vashti did in the story.    Ian

We have been learning about how mistakes make us feel and how they help us learn. We wrote sayings like “turn your frown upside down and keep your hopes up.”   Sophie

Next week will be mistakes week! We are going to note any mistakes we make and what we have learnt from them.   Nikkita

We have been working on chronological reports this week.   Beth.K

Next week is happiness week. We are having a competition to see who can do the best anti bullying poster. The winning poster will go in the main entrance.   Ellie
