P3 Snow days

Hey P3,
Hope you are all enjoying the snow!
Couple of things you can be doing to keep learning:
1- help shovel the drive, but be safe!
2- make a snowman and measure the height
3- practice your times tables and division (in particular the 4 times table)
4- draw out and colour different fractions, remember the bottom number is the total number of parts!!
5- write me a story about anything you want! Try to have a beginning, middle and ending!

See you all soon, we will finish up the bread experiment when we get back!!!

We made up our own stories about Cinderella. We all made a few changes to the story to make it our own. Some of the changes were: Cinderella was bad, the pumpkin turned into a bull, the pumpkin broke down on the way to the ball and the Prince fell in love with one of the stepsisters. the stories were very imaginative and well written. We have also started learning about our topic Livingston now and then. We also looked at some skills for work. We are going to focus on working independently and time management skills. The school also had a Halloween party last night.

This week we completed our Human Body assessment. As a class, we were amazing at coming up with ideas to stay healthy, matching the names of bones with where they are in the body and naming some of our organs. Below are some examples of our excellent work! We also learned about how our blood travels in our body and what it does with the muscles. For writing this week we wrote about animals as characters. We had lots of fun and are starting to develop our descriptive language.

We made our healthy heart posters telling us different things we can do to keep our hearts healthy. Things like dancing, trampolining, jogging and eating fruits and vegetables. WE continued to practice our number bonds to ten and some of us even tried number bonds to 20 or 100! We had a visitor on Monday, Mrs. Davidson, who told us how different parts of the body help with speech. In writing we did poems about our senses, making little riddles about where we were. We played an exciting game of domes and dishes in PE.

We learnt about the different bones of the body, like your spine (back) your tibia and fibula (shin bones) and your femur (thigh bone). Also, we researched the organs of the body like the lungs, the kidneys, the bladder and the heart. We also practiced our number bonds using number bond bingo. We are getting really good at knowing what numbers go together to make 10. We used these to add past the friendly number

It’s been a busy week in P3

This week (as always) has been a very busy week with the wonderful P3’s. We worked really hard using different materials, like feathers, felt and googly eyes to make birds for Mr. Twit’s bird pie. We then wrote out our own recipes for bird pie using ingredients and numbered steps. For Scottish maths week we solve a variety of different puzzles, our favourite was sitting the knights around the king/queen’s table. We also looked at the learning pit and created colourful and inspirational posters to help us when we get stuck in our learning. They teach us to persevere and never give up.

This week we have been learning and practicing our song for the Emotion Works showcase. We performed it in front of parents and we were very happy to perform. Emma, Louise and Iona showed our Emotions Works based on Monsters Inc to the parents in the small hall. We were delighted to have them show off all our hard work. Thank you girls.

In the past couple of days we have been focusing on money in maths. We were looking at selling items and calculated the change and profit. We will use these skills for our enterprise evening, which takes place on 8th of December.

We concluded our basketball lessons with the college kids. They were exciting to see and very helpful. Thanks to them for improving our basketball skills.

Primary 4

This week we started our assessment for Emotion Works by watching Monsters Inc and taking notes on the different emotions, behaviours and triggers of the characters. We found that when the characters got scared they often ran away and screamed. Also we also evaluated how they reacted in different situations.

We also looked at maps and directions in maths. We used left and right to help us find how to get to different places on a map. Then we made our instructions better by using first, second or third left/right. Eventually we used street names to make them even better. We worked in groups to plot a path from one place to another.

College students came for our P.E. lesson this week and we learnt basketball skills. They taught us the chest pass and the bounce pass. Also we had a mini game of basketball.

This week for our topic we have looked at different styles of houses in the ares. Some houses don’t have stairs. We took a walk around the area and saw bungalows and attached houses. Some people have neighbours underneath them or above them.
We have continued our number talks looking at both adding and take away this week. We continue to use our friendly number strategies. We were lucky to have parents and grandparents in to visit us on our PATPAL morning. This was a chance for us (this kids) to teach adults how to add and subtract money.
Our emotion work cog this week looked at the triggers that start our emotions. We found out that for a few of us peas triggered the disgust emotion.
Please remember that parent’s evening is next week, on Wednesday and Thursday!

P4 this week

This week we have continued our work on number talk. We use strategies like friendly numbers and number bonds to help us solve a range of addition problems. Next week we will move on to looking at different take away problems. We focused on the red cog- body sensations – this week where we look at how emotions feel in different parts of your body. We wrote on outlines of people where we felt different emotions. For our Global Goals, World’s Biggest Lesson we looked at inequality. We have learnt that some people around the world don’t have much money while other people are very rich. The top 85 richest people in the world have more money than the poorest 3.5 billion. Dojo Champ of the week was Louise! Well done Louise.
