Learning in P3 This Week

We have been very busy with our enterprise project.  We have written very persuasive letters to Mrs Stewart asking if we can borrow money.  We have talked about profit!  And most importantly we have been busy making some wonderful gifts to sell at the Nativity! In maths we have been learning about money and we are getting really good at counting it!.  We were learning about the vowel house, which the children will be bringing home to practise next week.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Learning German in P5/6 & P6

002

This week P5/6 and P6 started learning German together.

We discussed why German might be an important language to learn.

“It’s important to learn German as you may have a German friend in the furture.” Gabriel Kaubrys.

“If you get a job and someone speaks German then you can translate for them.” Alfie Brown.

“If you decide to visit Germany then you might want to try and speak the language.” Niomi Kelly

Most of us found it quite tricky but enjoyed learning a new language.

“I found it ok but some of the words were quite hard.”  Andrew Hunter.

“I found it tricky because I am not used to it.”  Johnathan Noer.

“I found easier because my dad learnt German when he was little so I sometimes hear some of the words.” Ceana Gray.

“I enjoyed learning German.” Abbie Black.

“It enjoyed it. It was lots of fun.” Katie Ford.

P4/5 Message from Mr. Herman

This week has been incredibly busy and we have been working very hard.  I would like to thank all the parents who have handed in glass jars for our enterprise crafts. We have a whole cupboard full of jars that we will use to make some beautiful tealight holders.  I would also like to thank my cleaning up helpers, Liam, Roxanne, Niamh, Kerr and Chloe M. for their excellent help in tidy up the class room after we made salt dough ornaments.  This week also showed some very keen and enthusiastic writers who even used some of their wet break to finish up writing! Great job!  I look forward to another VERY busy and productive week next week getting ready for our Enterprise bingo night (On the 10th of December 6:30-8:00)!

P4 and Visible Learning

P4 have been very busy learning all about learning!

First of all we learnt all about how the brain works and how to keep it healthy. Then we focussed on growth and fixed mindsets. A fixed mindset is where you think you can’t do something and give up easily or where you think you are the best you can be and stop trying. A growth mindset is where you keep trying and continually keep learning and building upon your skills and knowledge. It’s where you can’t do something….YET!

We watched this video clip about the Hare and the Tortoise

This week has been mistakes week. We have been learning about the importance of learning from our mistakes. ‘It’s ok not to know but it’s not ok not to try.’ We have a marvellous mistakes wall that we add to to show any mistakes we make and what we learnt from them.

Watch this space to hear all about the learning pit in the next couple of weeks.

Autumn Helpers Again!!

When our autumn helpers went back to the woods to see if the squirrels had found the nuts they were only able to find some of the shells left!

As this had worked so well the rest of us went out to hide more nuts in the woods yesterday.  100_8402  100_8400

We found lots of good places to put them.

Although we are not sure how many of the squirrels will find them as the ducks and swans were looking for them before we even left!

French Language Nuts!!

Pupils from P4-7 have started using a new website called www.languagenut.com. Everyone has their own password and can access the site from home as well as school to practise their French. There are lots of games to play as well as a test zone where you can show off your knowledge and build your own medal table- great fun and a super challenge. Get nutty and practise that French! Have fun!

French in the Nursery- Camembear et les couleurs

Girls and boys in the nursery have been having fun and learning French with a new friend- Camembear. Camembear is a very friendly bear who is sometimes mischievous! He can only speak in French so the girls and boys are learning how to speak to him in his own language. They can say “bonjour” and “au revoir” . Camembear had fun with this as every time they said “au revoir”, he went flying off the flag into the air!

We have been learning how to say the different colours. Everyone is very good at recognising  bleu (blue), blanc (white) and rouge(red) and can pick out these colours when asked. These colours are everywhere!
